Waiting At Doctor's Offices - When Did a Half an Hour Become Standard, an Hour De Rigueur? (1 Viewer)

First, sorry to hear about your visit.

As to the bolded, use your visit as an example. Your results or findings or concerns may necessitate a call to another physician to consult or discuss the findings. Or schedule an urgent visit.  That's not something that can wait.

Or, the phone call is another physician calling (maybe from an ER about a patient that is there or from a different specially that needs to refer them over).

Those can't be planned for. But they happen all the time and can't just be put off. And it only takes one to push an entire schedule back. It can happen as early as the first visit too (or before).
Thanks.

As to the bolded, the obvious is gotten.

But world don't run on doctor nor my time. I also didn't get much specialized attention, nor did I ask. I got a grand total of five-ten minute visit. No way they should be backed up because of that.

First off, good luck RA. 👍

Second, thanks for the perspective guys. However, I have a question regarding my experience yesterday.

Like rock, we booked an 8:30 am appointment - the earliest they had, in an effort to avoid the natural delays that are understandable.

But, when we were told that the doc booked 2 patients at 8:30 am, I was honestly miffed. Is this double booking common practice? I have never experienced it before and will back off if it is necessary.

As of right now, I feel like requesting something clearer on our next visit.

Thnx. ✌️

Also, this was taken out before I knew I had an a1c problem that can range from pancreas shutting down -------> simple diabetes.

No need for the well-wishes yet, though organs are serious. I have more labs coming. I feel okay, frankly, but who knows about anything about this.

I'm listening to VU, loving it. I hope to be fine.

I went though something similar 2 years ago, and you were one of the first to motivate my ### to get help. (thnx btw)

It was diabetes type 2. It ain't fun, but it is manageable. I don't wish it on you, but if that turns out to be the case, you can make it work.

👍

I remember. I just don't know what they're testing for. Should be okay. Corona can't be helping. They had a call today while I was getting helped that had to do with Corona, so...we'll see if I can't get to normal soon.

Oh, I see. So your time is more valuable than mine. Is that it? You're a delicate genius!
*laughs*

What?

Are you quoting someone?

I assure you, good sir, that my time is no more valuable than yours. Nor is anybody's. Anyway, I just started this thread after an hour wait in one office and onto thirty+ minutes in this one. I've noticed the trend is going up, too. Perhaps we should be discussing insurance rates also. I dunno.

I have thought, for years, that if we appear on time for an appointment and have to wait in excess of 30 minutes, we should be able to charge the provider for our time.

Hey, if WE are late, THEY charge us, right?
Huh? What do they charge?

Also, doctor should start billing for the actual time they spend, like lawyers.

If I showed up an hour late, I would be told that I missed my appointment and that since I had not canceled within 24 hours, that I would still be charged my co-pay. Pretty standard.

I've been told I'm in the minority on this one, but I won't wait more than 15 minutes past scheduled time for appointments.  Anything over that and I'm debating if a permanent change should be made.  If the location/individuals do not respect your time or are incapable of managing their schedule I'm certainly not feeling great about the quality of care that will be dispensed.

I've gone to the desk and cancelled after 15 minutes before (and told them why).  If you're in an area with numerous options I don't see the point in keeping those type of 'professionals' around.  Lucky to have the family doctor, dentist, etc we now do, but it took going through a few of these situations to find the right people.
Good luck with your new doctor every other visit. I'm sure the dude that just got the terminal cancer notification is sorry he ruined your day by soaking up that extra 15 minutes of your time.

This is masterful, much like her performance.

Total earworm all my life, this song. Where are you going to?

Lady Di...the only royalty is straight outta Berry Gordy's Detroit, folks. Never mind the Duchess of York. This is sweeping.
