Waiver Wire defense for Champ Week (1 Viewer)

GOroute

This is an interesting dilemma many of us will face this coming week. What de do we use? I think there are two interesting choices:

Green Bay at home in cold, rain and maybe some wind vs a rookie qb, indoor team - Minny Vikings.

- not that gb's de is anything special, but they arent terrible. Might be a great pickup?

Buffalo - certainly nothing special. decent against pass, awful against run. But at home. Plus Tenn's offense while winning games hasn't been going crazy. They can't pass all that well, but they can run and they will likely run for a lot of yards against buffalo, but buffalo may force their to's.

other notables include...

titans vs buf

nyj @ mia

any thoughts....?

I've been alternating New Eng/Jacksonville for awhile, with the occassional single week waiver pickup. I normally only play the Jags at home, but this is not a week I like either of the two.

I just got KC off waivers in my league and I'm fairly sure I'll go with them this week.

Green Bay has possibilities - bad weather, inexperienced guy on the other side, they have a healthy number of sacks - but they suck.

Of course the Chiefs D is nothing to write home about but I think the Raiders' O is even worse than the Vikes with a raw QB.

St Louis at home over Washington could be a good play also.
I picked up KC against Oalkand. I believe that it will pay big divdends or it will be a high scoring game. Needless to say I believe that it will be a low scoring game. At least I hope that it works out to be a low scoring game.

Not a whole lot of posts yet, could you make this a poll? Polls usually get more responses.

I have Buffalo and have been eying this match-up from the first of the year, but, I never expected Tenn to b playing so well..

Considering KC, talk me into or out of it.

:lmao:

this post just started so i think you will et answers. sure kc is a good choice, but considering oak got shutout last week, i wouldnt expect the same. but no more than 17 pts. but kc isnt an option for me.okay, gb is an option. what can people tell me about tavaris jackson? is he ready? is he gonna run? could he be to prone?buffalo- yes a good matchup. but being a bills fan they have issues stopping the run and tenn can run.

GB vs Minn was mentioned, but how about turning that around and going with theVikes vs the Pack? Cold, rain, sleet, and the Packers tend to turn the ball over -- while Minnesota has been an oportunistic defense. Of course, they suck against the pass...but you can't have everything (if you do, then you have the Bears).

good point. but id rather the team that might control the ball more, playing at home, in primetime in what could be BRETT FAVRE'S last game in the NFL in Lambeau. You dont think his team will play hard for him? Think back to the MNF game vs the Raiders a couple of years ago. a home de in a hostile standium is always better than the road team (especially a dome road team).

I too considered the Jets. Miami was blanked last week, has a noob QB, and Brown and Booker are questionable.

At Miami tho.

You don't like KC @ Oakland?
What did KC defense manage a few weeks ago against Oakland? Oh, one whole sack and one whole turnover. THANKS A LOT, CHIEFS!
Yea I grabbed them that week too and was very disappointed. That was Brooks' first game back and he moved the ball on them rather easily. The only turnover came on a pass in the end zone on Oakland's last possession. The Chiefs did a poor job of getting pressure on him and forcing him into mistakes - and Lord knows Brooks is prone to making mistakes. And this was a game in KC. I am concerned about them not showing up on the road but on paper, this is a tough matchup to resist.

This is discouraging. I was not armed with these facts when I made this move. Still, KC forced a couple of turnovers against the mighty Chargers, so I've got some faith that their pass defense has improved.

Atlanta might not be a bad gamble. They haven't been very trustworthy but they are at home and going against Weinke, who has lost 17 straight starts. I wouldn't count on the Falcons in a league that rewards quality bonuses for points allowed - I think even with Weinke the Panthers should put some points on the board - but they should be good for some turnovers and maybe a defensive score.

I think they're a good bet to keep the score low so if that's important to you than they're a good play. FBG definitely likes them a lot this week. On paper, this is a very good matchup even on the road. The Raiders have lost seven straight and haven't scored more than 14 points in a game since late October. It's easy to like the Chiefs a lot this week. Here's how the Raiders have fared in terms of points in their home games this season:0

That's two shutouts and four of seven games with 14 points or less. Again, on paper this is a very good matchup for the Chiefs. But KC's defense needs to deliver.

HAHa... Brett Favre's last game in Lambeau... whatever. I'm taking the Vikes D in this one and not looking back. Gb can't run against the vikes... they should be 1D.... I see Brett throwing quite a few up for grabs in the rain. Good luck though.

Yea, I was gonna say something if no one else did. KC has had some really good match-ups on the stretch run and did nothing with them, even at home. I'm stuck with them because of the end of FA but I have the Pack in another and not afraid to play them.

Yeah, I grabbed Seattle last week because FBG liked them so much at home against SF. That got me huge total of 3 points. This week for the Championship I think I'll go with my gut instead. GOroute, I'm sticking with your homers.

tonydead's lock of the week!, time to start my own web site....................................

Pitt D on the roster, huge game and they're on a roll. But 10 team league and Atlanta D, KC D, Minny D, and GB D on waivers. Leaning towards Atlanta or KC, over Pitt. Am scared of KC D and Carolina was such crap last week, ATL at home looks good. Rebound or continuation for Carolina this week? Balt offense gonna come up big this week? Too many tough decisions for the big game. Need to sleep and drink on this one too

Agreed. Carolina has 3 starting lineman out for the year and Weinke is a statue. He doesn't throw it down the field at all but Carolina needs to win this game if they have any shot at the playoffs so they won't be able to play super conservative if Atlanta scores some points.

Two other teams that I snagged off of waivers for this weekend:

Titans @ Buffalo - the Titans beat the Jags last week off the strength of their defense and special teams. Weather in Buffalo could be a factor and I'm also not ready to proclaim Losman as an error-free QB.

Bengals @ Broncos - Bengals have hot 3 hot defensive weeks and 2 unproductive weeks over the past 5. We know the weather in Denver is AWFUL right now but that's 3 days until gametime. Depending on the conditions, they could be a good play against the rookie QB.

I have The Jets and The Bills - Which of those 2 would you start...

I like the Jets Matchup better but Like The Bills D better.

Paul

I like the Bills a lot and I can see a good game from the Falcon D as well. I am not buying the KC program. That defense has been PATHETIC in FF this year and they were horrid at home with the Raiders!

Crap, Lineup Dominator has KC listed as the #1 defense in the league this week!! :pics: Why? Why? Why? I can't go against that can I? Am playing against Chicago listed as #2, now I've got to take that chance, right?

KC-Buffalo-KC-Buffalo-KC-Buffalo-KC-Buffalo...........

Last time KC faced Oakland, the managed 3.5 fantasy points in our league. Last time Indy faced Houston they managed 6 points. Houston is looking a lot worse than last time they matched up. KC defense has really done nothing all year save for one game. Indy is bound to get 4-5 sacks and a few picks. They will probably give up around 10 points to Texans. I just don't see KC doing much considering their last matchup. In fact, in my league, KC hasn't managed over 7 points save for their game against the 49ers. They are consistently bad. They will hold them to around 16 points 2 sacks and maybe one pick.

edit to say: the only waiver wire options I have are Titans, Colts, Chief and 49ers. They all go up against soft offenses. I think the Colts stand the best chance. I own the Steelers defense which had ZERO points against the Ravens last time they squared off. I feel strange benching the Steelers after a 23 point outburst.

I am going to go Buffalo over Indy and Atlanta. Buffalo has the best big play potential of the group.
