Waiver Wire Defense Week 10 (1 Viewer)

Slim pickings on the waiver wire for fantasy defenses this week assuming the hot defenses from last week are taken. If you scooped up DEN, MIA, SD, or DET you did very well.

Heres how I see it for week 10:

BAL vs OAK: I hate to say it, but the Raiders defense is going through transition and though they have the capability to score points, this game could get ugly early. The loss of McFadden is like losing several pistons on a V8 motor. Carson Palmer is a turnover machine. Baltimore should be a strong play at home.

PHI vs DAL: The home team in a bitter rivalry is a good bet to score TD's and Tony Romo has the rep of choking in games like these.

IND at JAX: Previously discussed but repeated here. Any defense that plays against Blaine Gabbert is a safe fantasy defense and Indy is no different this weekend.

I tried to find value in Carolina, NY Jets, Tampa, KC, BUF, TEN, NOS, JAX. But I can't recommend any of these. Maybe starting your bye week defense and taking a zero is safer. Ill assume that PIT is owned and they have a marvelous matchup against KC at home. Minnesota's DST is all but droppable now when you look at their schedule going forward, yuck.

In my leagues people dropped the New England defense prior to their bye week. When they faced the Bills earlier this year they forced 6 turnovers- and no matter what you think of Aqib Talib he can't make them any worse, right?

I have Denver, but the Carolina offense is starting to look a little better.

New England was dropped in my league, so I may grab them for this week and just hold Denver.

I have the Denver/New England combo and it's looking like money. The Pats have 4 straight strong matchups as well as the addition of Aqui Talib. Denver covers week 14 nicely and week 15 offers neutral matchups for both. But week 16 has strong matchups for both. I'm sitting tight on this combo in one league. :moneybag:

They got dropped in my redraft before the Giants game. Haven't hit double digits all year, but it is the Chiefs (personally I plugged in the Charges last week, TYVM). Tempting, but I think I'll stick with the 49ers and hold the Chargers for a couple other matchups later this year (CAR & NYJ WKs 15 & 16)

I will have to roll with one of:

Titans D @ MIAMI

Rams D @ SAN FRANSISCO

Chargers D @ TAMPA BAY

FML..

There are 6 free agent DST's in my 14 team league.

Insanity.

The only one of these I would touch is the Rams only because it is a divisional game and the score should be low. But I still wouldn't expect much. The Niner line has done a good job protecting Alex Smith. Just hope for a low score.

I'm not giving them a strong endorsement but in a really deep league the Lions have a sliver of hope now. On the road at Minnesota wasn't giving me much hope for them but if Harvin's out their chances do get better. Ponder's been awful lately. Not saying they're a strong or even decent play but there is some hope for them if Harvin doesn't play. And right now it doesn't sound like he will. That's obviously a gigantic loss for the Vikings.

The Cowboys D, not the Eagles D. The Saints had like six sacks last night. What Is DWare going to do to them?

As a Cards owner (they get the Falcons after the bye), I'm leaning towards the Rams right now as a 2-week investment in my 16-team deep league.

Not expecting much versus the 49ers but they should at least put up mid-range numbers... and then they draw the Jets at home the following week which should be $$.

Cowboys are my fallback option.

As much as it disgusts me, Cowboys are a good play with the way the Eagles have been. Only owned in 18% of yahoo leagues, 47% of CBS leagues.

I'm liking the Cowboys too. But, knowing them, they will probably allow Philly to torch them.
Guy in my one league (all philly fans) has had the motto "I will continue to start the defense of whoever plays the Eagles until their offensive line begins wearing Old Spice Body Spray, for power." Of course his team name is Old Spice Body Spray but he's been doing that since week 2 and is 7-2. Usually gets good results.

Every time I p/up the cowgirls D in a great matchup, they totally buck it up.PIT and NE are my sleepers this week who might be on the wire.

As for Miami... I take it you mean if someone scooped them up for this week's matchup in advance, because this past week was a poor result. However MIA at home vs TEN looks promising, especially if Locker plays.

the more i think on it the more i like phi and dallas. both don't score alot. both turn the ball over. both have bad olines. i will take the home team

Rotoworld:

CSN Philly reports there is a "very good chance" RT Todd Herreman's season is over after suffering a tendon injury in his foot-ankle area."It's not good," one team official said. "It doesn't look good at all. We're still waiting for [more test results], but it looks bad." The Eagles are already without LT Jason Peters, C Jason Kelce, and RG Danny Watkins. Michael Vick was sacked a season-high seven times Monday night by a Saints defense that had just 13 sacks through the first seven games. Free agent bust Demetress Bell is expected to fill in for Herremans.
this pretty much says everything i need to know...

Pretty sure money comes before loyalty. Might pick up the Cowboys this week.

I was worried about a defense until I noticed that someone released the 49ers last week because of a roster squeeze...and I have the 1st wavier!

Good analysis but the Lions have a bit more of a sliver of hope. They force more TO's on the road where they have eight takeaways in five games vs. just two turnovers forced in three home games. They also held the Vikings to 227 total yards earlier this year. And as you said, Harvin's out now and Ponder's playing poorly. I was going to drop DET this week but kept them when I lost out on the Pats D.

ADP has had success running on the Lions over the years, but he's also fumbled 8 times in 10 games (losing 5). Detroit actually gives up the 28th most FF points allowed to RBs - sandwiched in between Miami and Houston.IRL stats, the Lions have the 6th best defense in the NFL for Yards Allowed. They haven't forced a ton of turnovers (5 INT and 5 FR), but they are not nearly as awful as past years - or the current years perception.

Apparentely the Bucanneers give up the 2nd lowest fantasy points to DSTs. Who would have figured. I picked up the Chargers DST two weeks ago for their upcoming three games (CLE, KC and TB), but now I'm unsure if they're playable. To make matters worse, I have Doug Martin, and wouldn't mind him going for 25+ this week.

If I can't grab the Cowboys, I may be forced to stick with these guys...

Not surprising, Freeman has been very solid of late - 11 TDs and only 1 INT the last 4 weeks. San Diego DST is a bit of a mirage. In our league, their 89 points is 4th best, but 46 of those were the two games against the Chiefs. In their other six games they rank 20th on a PPG basis.I'm rolling with the Steelers this week versus the generous KC offense (29 turnovers), and even though they have been a below average DEF thus far, I think they have a chance to be solid as part of a DBC based on matchups - CLE WK 12, and SD - @DAL - CIN for the playoffs.

4 team league?
I know...I was shocked and my league mates were not happy. However I went and looked at the 49ers stats and was a bit disappointment in their point production, but I will take it. I mean other than the 49ers, Texans and Bears, I'm not sure there is another must start every week.

I don't consider the niners a must start. Bears are the only one IMO. Otherwise it's all matchups.

Rolled to a nice lead in one league thanks to Wayne but moreso thanks to the Indy Defense.

Great one week play. To all you out there who started Indy....

:pickle: :pickle: :pickle:

Great call this week FBGs -- Colts Def was great in a game that I absolutely have to win this week. Wish I would've had the guts to pick them up and start them in all of my leagues.
