Waiver Wire & FAAB Discussion - Week #2 (9 Viewers)

There's going to be a big demand for QB's I feel. Between Burrow, Daniels, Purdy, McCarthy (Less so) all getting banged up then some vets disappointing...

Jayden Daniels manager here. We still don't know if this injury is anything, but given that the Burrow manager and potentially the Fields manager may be in the market this week*, I was thinking it might be a good idea to get a jump on the competition by taking advantage of the Yahoo loophole that allows you to drop a bench player even if he’s already played.

Specifically, I could drop Josh Downs (or Tillman or Doubs or Rachaad White) and pick up Geno before the Raiders game kicks off tonight. He’ll actually be facing the Commanders on the road, and IMO he’s not appreciably better or worse than the other options:

Geno @ Wash
Darnold vs NO
DJones @ Tenn
Bryce vs ATL
Stafford @ Phi
Russ vs KC

So the two questions are, do I make the transaction, and if so, who do I drop? In terms of pure value, I would rate White the lowest, but I’m a little nervous both because a) it’s a one-game sample size and b) I only have three other RBs on the roster (Taylor, Chuba and Etienne). I view Doubs and Downs similarly — low-upside guys unlikely to be their team’s top target — but Doubs seems to be more likely to benefit from a bandwagon offense (I still think Indy is a bit of smoke and mirrors). So I’m leaning Downs as the one to drop.

ETA: Oh right, forgot about the Reed injury, which is another point for Doubs. Actually, given Golden's invisibility so far, why couldn't he be the No. 1 option? Also, when it comes to drops, I tend to think in terms of who would get snatched up if they were on the WW. I think Doubs definitely would, while I'm not so sure about Downs.

* Just looked it up. The Burrow guy has Tua as his QB2 and the Fields guy has Penix. So yeah, I think they'll both probably be looking to pick someone up

QBs will be hot even in 1 QB leagues. They will be desperate in 2 QB leagues and super flex.

Outside of that it will basically be anyone left over from last week or Franklin.

  • Dontayvion Wicks with Reed out 6-8 weeks, & Golden/Savion still finding their way
  • Ja’Tavion Sanders with a chance to become the #2 target
Unless you're really hurting at TE, I would much rather invest in Jordan Love than Bryce Young. No. 2 target in Carolina may not be worth diddly

Drop Downs, aim to pickup DJones (choice1) or Geno (choice2).

The Colts almost got 500 yards of offense vs a good DEN defense.

Well, the idea is that I can bypass waivers and pick up Geno tonight before kickoff. Then if I change my mind I can always put in a claim for Jones tomorrow night

I did that and grabbed McCarthy last night and then dropped him for Geno tonight. Still a few options available on the wire, but as a Burrow owner I needed someone with a pulse. Just in case.

Good strategy. I expect Daniel Jones to be a hot commodity on waivers. He still has some accuracy issues but his running and talent at receiver should help him be a top 12 QB. I think the DEN game made people hesitate taking him for week 2.

You actually just gave me one more reason to pull the trigger on Geno: I really try to preserve my waiver claims for guys I expect to make a season-long contribution, especially at RB/WR. I don’t want to use one for a fill-in QB, especially since I may not end up using him at all if Daniels’ injury isn’t serious. This way I get one of the top options without having to use a claim.

I still don’t know what to make of Jones. Is he this year’s Sam Darnold or this year’s Derek Carr, destined to fade after a hot start?

Good oline, great RB, very good TE, deep group of complementary WRs. I think he continues to be a good fantasy QB.

Geno is underrated. Tonight's game will be informative versus a better defense than the Patriots. I want to see if Thornton is for real - Geno missed him on a long pass and Thornton adjusted for a 36 yard completion last week.

I’m actually trying to figure out what is a reasonable bid for Rhamondre.

I actually drafted him for $1 in auction. And due to short benches he was my first cut before week 1 (for Daniel Jones in SuperFlex so I’m okay with it so far)… he sat there after week 1 and is still available after week 2.

Thinking about adding him to my RB depth. I’m not incredibly needy. But I’d also not like to let someone else have him for free.

Rhamondre looked great vs Miami, in all 3 phases. Back to 2022 form. Amazing what an improved oline and coordinator can do.

Agree: I watched the highlights last night.

My personal problem is my RB room is really solid. Which makes me hesitant ro spend FAAB. But this year especially I just feel like you don’t take for granted who’s producing as the guy on a team.

I’m thinking about using about 20-30%… but might be too rich.
