CARTHAGE, Tenn. -

Tennessee Titans defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth was charged with reckless endangerment after being accused of trying to run a car off the highway.

The Smith County sheriff said Friday a warrant for the player's arrest was issued after James J. Bond filed a police report.

Bond told police that Haynesworth on Sunday swerved, sped and attempted to pass a car driven by Bond's mother-in-law on the shoulder of Interstate 40, about 45 miles east of Nashville, Smith County Sheriff Johnny Bane said.

"The affidavants feared for their lives and felt they were in danger, as well as other drivers around them," he said.

No officer was present at the scene, and the warrant was issued Tuesday after authorities investigated Bond's report, Bane said.

He said police have spoken with Haynesworth's attorney, who told them the player will surrender on the charges soon. He will face $1,000 bail.

Neither the Tennessee Titans nor Haynesworth's agent, Chad Speck, immediately returned calls from The Associated Press.

Sounds like a stretch to call it "reckless endangerment", which involves the use of a deadly weapon. Perhaps the lawyers here could tell me if I'm wrong, but generally an automobile isn't considered a deadly weapon unless the driver is intoxicated.

Are you kidding me?....this is ridiculous that someone that wasn't even in the car is influencing the state of Tenn to press charges on something like this. Only in the state of Tennessee I guess. What kills me is that there wasn't an officer at the scene but yet charges are being pressed..lol. What is this a citizens' arrest? Get real...next will be the lawsuit. Pathetic.

Depends if there were other witnesses...if there were other witnesses to this, they may have something to go on.If not, its their word against his...and I doubt you see much of it.

Not that I agree with it...but unless they really felt they were in danger...who the hell does anything but honk and flip a bird to someone trying to pass you on the shoulder?
