Warren Sapp on the Steelers (1 Viewer)

Refuses to recant his statement earlier in the year that the Steelers are old and tired. Along with acknowledging that their press man scheme was a good idea last Sunday, he made the point that the reason the defense is looking better is because they "got younger" by replacing Aaron Smith, James Harrison, and James Farrior with Ziggy Hood, Chris Carter, and Larry Foote.

:lmao:

Is this guy serious? He's trying to say replacing James Harrison with Chris Carter is part of the reason why the Steelers defense has been playing better since week 1?

Beyond brutal.

don't waste your time listening to him - there are better ways to waste your time - like watching paint dry.

I generally like Sapp best of all the guys on NFL Gameday, but his unwillingness to back off of his "Steelers are too old and are done" comments is a little irritating (even though I want him to be right :D ).

The Steelers defense is currently ranked #1 in pass defense and #8 in rushing defense and #2 overall. Part of this is due to their weak schedule but they are still pretty good.

Last week was their best performance of all against the best offense in the NFL. Really amazing when you consider the injuries at LB. Sapp is an idiot.

Why do you think they are playing better?

Because the offense hasn't turned the ball over 8 times a game since that opening day debacle? Because that was the first game of the season and possibly an anomaly? Because they've jelled as the season's gone on and they've rounded into mid-season form? Because they aren't "washed up" after all?Any single one of those reasons is 100x more likely than a rookie replacing James Harrison at OLB. Sapp just doesn't want to lose face by admitting he was wrong. He's the LHUCKS of Inside the NFL.

Because the improved offense and massive time of possession advantage the past few weeks has kept opposing offenses off the field?

That definitely helped the defense tremendously last week. Brady and the Patriots offense barely had the ball in that game (barely over 20 minutes), having only 9 possessions in the entire game (2 touchdowns, 1 FG, 1 missed FG, 4 punts, and the drive at the end that resulted in a safety). The Steelers defense is definitely looking better, but they are more vulnerable against the run this year. They are allowing 4.4 YPC, and in the three games against RBs who are actually really good, they have allowed: Ray Rice to go for 19 for 107 yardsArian Foster to go for 30 for 155 yardsMJD to for for 22 for 96 yardsAll of that aside, Warren Sapp is a dope.

Leading up to the draft last year, Sapp was very vocal and outspoken that Gerald McCoy was going to be a better DT in the nfl than Suh. To his credit, I did here him admit that he was wrong earlier this year, which is more than I can say for Deion and a bunch of the other dopes who never hold themselves accountable for their bad takes.

That being said, I do have to laugh at someone who says that a defense is getting younger when Larry Foote is inserted in the lineup :lmao:

Also very true.

Watchign No Huddle right now, and he used the getting younger excuse as well, except said Timmons replaced Harrison and Sylvester replaced Farrior. Well, Sylvester is younger and I like him, but has he really done anything in a game yet? And Im not sure if Sapp doesnt realize Timmons was already starting before Harrison got hurt or he is just trying to make his argument sound better, but either way its :lol:Smith going out and Hood coming in is definitely a reason, but I think the improved play of Lewis and Gay, and the emergence of Cortez "the Killer" Allen is a big reason as well. And Woodley going into beast mode for the last month.

So, he's saying the defense on the whole got younger (he gave the exact average ages before and after the injuries to Harrison, Smith, and Farrior) in part because Timmons replaced Harrison, when Timmons was already in the starting lineup. :lmao:He either doesn't understand math or is trying to use misdirection to confuse people into thinking his initial statement wasn't complete nonsense.

Smith was washed up. Him being out probably has helped. Woodley started really slow. I think he was a bit complacent after getting his money, but he really turned it on. Hampton also started slow. I think that was more conditioning than old.
