"ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (AP) -Denver Broncos linebacker Warrick Holdman was carted off the field and taken by ambulance to a hospital Thursday after he appeared to injure his head or neck.

There was no immediate word on the extent of his injury, although he was moving his arms and legs.

Holdman appeared to hit the crown of his helmet on another player's helmet and crumpled to the grass midway through the morning workout. He was rolled over onto his back after a minute, but stayed down for eight minutes.

His teammates gathered around him as he was strapped to a headboard and carted off the field to a waiting ambulance.

Holdman is a ninth-year pro in his first season in Denver after spending the last two years in Washington. He was working with the starters at strong side linebacker Thursday. He's among a handful of players who are vying for the position in one of the most heated competitions at camp."

Also regarding the DEN LB situation ... from Rotoworld this morning:

Broncos LB Nate Webster is being given a look on the strong side at camp. D.D. Lewis, Warrick Holdman, and Webster make up the competition now, with Eddie Moore on I.R. Webster is more likely to back up MLB D.J. Williams.

This is great news for DJ Williams. If the Broncos are down to their third string SLB already and are now considering Webster at SLB rather than the middle, it's absolute confirmation that Williams is Bates' MLB.

Cecil and Big Sean have been watching every day of Broncos training camp and they both say no matter how bad DJ is in the middle, it's his job. We talked to Big Sean after the morning session, and he said DJ continues to struggle with trying too much to go around blockers instead of take them head on. Cecil agreed, saying he's just not playing hard-nosed and also his athleticism gets him into trouble when he overpursues and bites on fakes, leaving him out of position much too often. I'll chime in with my take after the two days I'll get to watch tomorrow and Saturday.
