I was volunteered without being asked to be the 'Webmaster' for my kids elementary school PTO by my wife the PTO Treasurer. I've never built a website before, but I know my way around a keyboard, and being a 'Mr. Mom' I have time to learn.
I have my own domain, but have only ever used it as a mail source (one of the benefits of having an oddly spelled last name is getting a site for first@lastname.com addresses) so I'm aware of the process of obtaining and maintaining the domain.
As with anything, my first reaction was to google a bit, then to come to the real source of knowledge on the internet, the FFA. I know some of you do this for a living, and can point me in the right direction to figure stuff out!
We're finishing up our trip around the U.S., and the wife and were killing time talking about this project she said the main reason the PTO wanted to move their web info away from the school's was to be able to get online payments for events and such to reduce the amount of cash they intake.
So question #1 is what is the best way to collect CC payments online? PayPal? Something else? The PTO brought in about $50k last school year, most of which ($20k) was a walking fundraiser for technology for the school. They plan to do it again next year (other goal) so being able to accept CC payments should increase the fundraising, since they would be able to widen the area of the fundraiser. (asking uncles in NYC is easier if the uncle can just go to the website and pay with CC.)
So, what are thoughts on CC for websites?
And as usual, TIA!!!
