Week 1 Games = Ugly (1 Viewer)

Perhaps my perspective is tainted by the prime time offerings this week, but I am struggling to remember any week in the NFL, where teams just didn't look ready to play. Seems every game was a smorgasboard of penalties, turnovers and low scoring slugfests.

I largely watched:

- Vikings/Saints: Hartley shank-a-thon doesn't lead to a Saints loss. High powered saints offense looks out of wack after a high powered first drive. Vikings stop feeding the rock to AD after much success in first half.

- Bears/Lions: Watch the Bears shoot themselves in the foot over and over, only to pull out the win on that funky Megatron non-catch.

- Cards/Rams: The Cards try all game to give the game away. Hightower fumbles in "we're almost in victory formation time" to give the Rams a chance.

- Cowboys/Redskins: Fumble at the end of the half returned for a TD. Cowboys win on the last second, except for a WWE style choke hold penalty that ends the game.

- Jets/Ravens: A clinic in ugly football. Greene develops awful fumblitis. Worse penalty of the year? Jets with a defensive hold early in game on a short route when Ravens are faced with third-and-a-mile.

Is it just me? Seemed like every game was chock full o' mistakes and most teams didn't look ready to play. If so, why? Coincidence? Do thinks get ironed out in week 2?

Statistically: I am curious to investigate whether scoring was done and penalties and turnovers were significantly higher than a normal week. Sure felt that way.

I don't know about penalties and turnovers, but this was the lowest scoring week since week 10 of 2007 (and of course there were four teams on bye that week). Not sure how far back you have to go to find a lower scoring week when all 32 teams were playing. It's definitely prior to 2007.

aside from the pats (who looked oiled,) Houston/Indy shootout, and chris johnson being chris johnson ... week 1 was bleh

two high powered offenses struggled with conditions (at least from the games I saw) in Green Bay and San Diego.

Baltimore, NYJ, NYG, Cinci, Ari, SF, Wash, Dal, MN, and NO all hit varying degrees of pretty sloppy football.

I thought the same thing, low scoring, sloppy play. The Titans tied with NE as high scorer in the league this week! Does anyone keep #s on total touchdowns each week? If so, I wonder where this week stands as far as average weekly scoring?

Another question I have is: how many of the 32 teams are really that bad? Will Oakland be a walk in the park for everyone? Are some of the supposed lower tier teams going to actually be decent (KC)?

Once teams get some real film on each other, I expect things to pan out.

Lots of pretty significant injuries to start out week one too.

Week 1 = Preseason Week 5
This.Imagine if this was week 3 for realz; like if it went to an 18-game schedule. Can you imagine how many clunker games we would sit through in the first month of the season?
 Was thinking exactly this. If it goes to an 18-game schedule, training camp will have to be become more brainwork+reps-in-shells to get the schemes down and less physical pounding.

The Saints left about 13-to-17 points on the field ... a few near-miss incomplete passes would've lengthened some drives and/or been scores.

I also think that instant replay and an excessive amount of rules are killing the flow of the game.
Like the incomplete pass to Megatron.Rules that attempt to eliminate any bias end up causing more problems than they fix....it is the same with our legal system and tax code.
