Week 1 Sleepers in Redraft (5 Viewers)

Ministry of Pain

Footballguy
Let's start with RB and perhaps when you drafted them you weren't thinking you would be starting them in Week 1 but it's at least worth a discussion

-There's not a lot of sleeper RBs but if you are looking outside the Top 20 which mostly is just a carbon copy of preseason rankings across numerous sites, the following could outperform their Week 1 ranking

RB - Dylan Sampson, CLE...they host the Bengals and one would think there will be a lot of points. He was outstanding last season for the Volunteers and basically is splitting time with Ford

RB - Isaiah Pacheco, KC...Friday Night vs the Bolts in Brazil. With Rice suspended the first 6 weeks, these would figure to be some of his stronger games of the season.
Can easily see him in the 60-80+ yd range and a TD plus a few catches, 15-20+ would be on the table

RB - Tony Pollard, TEN...with Spears on IR first 4 games, no reason Pollard isn't a solid RB2 or Flex option. Sure the Broncos are heavy favorites but the rookie QB will be something new, even if he doesn't take off until the 2nd Half, this team needs to score 20+ to have any chance to compete, Pollard will be a factor one way or the other. He certainly can catch check downs. PPR double digits.

RB - Travis Etienne, JAX...woefully undersold all off season. Carolina should offer opportunities for the Jags all game long, yes there will be an RBBC we've been told but Etienne 12-15 touches in this new offense should be enough to get him back to when he was putting up 1,400 total yds a season, keep a eye on his usage throughout. Can't start him just yet but the juicy match up at home is worth watching.

Wide Receiver would appear to have a lot more choices.

WR - Emeka Egbuka, TB...Both Godwin and McMillan are gone for at least the first 4 weeks, we think McMillan will miss a much larger chunk and Godwin will need a couple weeks to get up to speed.
In the meantime the rookie will likely be starting and if he does well he might play himself into a starting role the rest of the season. Not saying Godwin sits, just that Egbuka will. be one of three.
Evans getting long in the tooth, things could change a lot in Tampa this year.

WR - Ricky Pearsall, SF...He is being ranked outside the Top 30 and he looks like the lone WR left that has any kind of rapport or rhythm with Purdy at QB. Sure Kittle at TE will pick up some fo the slack but Pearsall is in an unusual position and early in the season he could see a return to some of his eye popping numbers the end of last season. 5/75/TD is not out of the question, also his floor could easily be 2/35, this is not a sure thing.

WR - Mathew Golden, GB...He's being ranked outside the Top 40 on many sites out there, seems very low when you factor in some of the current injuries with Reed reportedly nursing thru a Jones fracture and has opted to play thru it. Doubs was a major disappointment, still he is part of the starting trio. Odds are high that Golden will be involved early, many fantasy managers get bogged down on the target distribution accompanied with the number of throws Love attempted last season, far below his previous year. Unless fans expect a carbon copy of the offense from last season, try to look into the future. Camp reports have been complimentary on the 1st round pick out of Texas, don't be surprised when he hits early.

WR- Michael Pittman, Jr, IND...The Miami Dolphins are looking at other teams waivers or releases to try and upgrade a suspect room. Minkah came back in the Ramsey trade and Rasul Douglas was signed off the streets this past week, they are thin in terms of player recognition. They are starting a 5th-Rd Rookie DB named Jason Mitchell from the Univ of Florida. Could be better things for Josh Downs in the slot but Pittman was given $28M last year and he's due another $18M this season, they gave him a big salary increase on his extension, hard to believe they will allow for him to go down the same road as last season. He's a solid PPR producer, lask of TDs and chunk plays make him more of a WR3, he's also being ranked outside the Top 40, criminal with this match up.

WR - Keon Coleman, BUF...huge game vs Baltimore on SNF, health status of other WRs makes him a candidate for increased targets and his big playmaking ability, his size, WR50 this week?
We will take the over on that one with a chance to crack the Top 30 in a battle of two teams that could be an AFCC preview.

Def/ST - Arizona Cardinals would appear like a good choice in Week 1 even over teams like the Ravens or Bills where they likely are going to play a 27-24 type game.
Cincinnati would have to be on a short list vs the Browns, likely to have a poor offense, turnovers and sacks vs a statue of a QB, they could be Top 10 this week.

What are you looking at in terms of possible sleepers in Week 1?
Folks that took Mixon in early to mid Aug, maybe drafted Aiyuk and Godwin before knowing just how long they would be out...some of those folks have to start looking at their bench.
I didn't look very hard at QB or TE, maybe some of you have ideas there. Tight End always feels like a crapshoot

The Vikings present Sleepers but let's think about it logically.
On the one hand I like Adam Thielen and what he offers the first 3 games of the season and then we'll take it week by week after that
On the other hand, you have basically a rookie QB that has Jefferson and Hock that he's been throwing to all summer, the Head Coach isn't going to lean on his running game?
I could see Jordan Mason having a terrific week 1 and being relied upon in his role. We don't know exactly what his snaps and touches will be yet but it looks promising
With a young QB, Mason's numbers might jump the first 2-3 games with Addison out as much as anyone else in the offense. Something to track Week 1.

Some of you did something like this for WR2/3/4/5...

Flowers-Ridley-J.Myers-M.Golden and now you have to start 2 or perhaps 3 of them already and you could have some actual decisions based on the match ups.
Adam Thielen has to be a late round snag that folks are at least looking at coming out of the box.

Thilelen traded, Coker lands on injured reserve, the Panthers looked interesting with Young but his weapons are drying up quickly. Tet isn't gonna get a lot of help

Sleeper of the Week nominee, beat 'em to the waiver wire...

WR 60 - Demario Douglas, 5-8 so he's on the shorter side of life in the NFL.
He's had decent catch totals his first two years, maybe he builds on the 66 he had a year ago with Maye.

Slot-WR that could take a major leap in this offense, aging WR1 in Diggs coming off injury, Trey Henderson gives defenses something else to cover, lot of room for Douglas in the slot
66 last season, an increase to 80/900-1,000 yds and 4-6+ TDs would make him sick value, some leagues he went undrafted. If you are weak at receiver and happen to see this guy on waivers, not a bad idea to make him the last guy on your roster.

None of these are really sleepers week 1. Outside of maybe Sampson and maybe Etienne, theses guys were drafted as week 1 starters on 12-14 team leagues.

How about Brashard Smith? He could be in for a much bigger role than anyone thinks early in the season.

Dont'e Thornton? Could be the #1 this year for the Raiders. Meyers asking for a trade tells me Thornton and Bowers are getting the Lion's share in practice and Jacobi doesn't like it.

Ja'Tavian Sanders? Big time athlete, the guy is a monster and the loss of Coker really opens up a hole in Panthers passing game. He flashed last season a few times. Could be in a for a breakout early.

JK Dobbins? While everyone is fawning over Harvey, Dobbins has quietly been doing work in Denver. Finally healthy, he could be in for a big year. This is an offense that can support two RBs but JK can do it all.

Chris Rodriguez? Similar to Harvey, Jacory is the darling in this RB stable but Rodriguez could be the back to own. He's big and physical and flashed when given an opportunity last season.

Douglas is a good one. People are sleeping on him IMO. He looks like the real deal.

News today saying Ford will be getting the “workhorse” RB role in week one.

Might make him a sneaky start. And he’s a FA in all three of my leagues currently.

I think Jerry Jeudy will go nuts week 1. He had the 6th most receiving yards in the NFL last season—and they are playing a high powered bengals team week 1. Believe it or not—Joe Flacco might be the best qb that Jeudy has played with so far in his career—and I could see Cleveland having to throw a ton.

That's why we're taking this out...maybe when the game is no longer in doubt, still might see more of him but thank you for the update (y)

Agree 100%, From Week 8 to Week 17 after DeShaun Watson's benching, Jeudy was the #5 WR in Fantasy. He should roast a bad Bengals defensive secondary.

For another sleeper, I'll add Austin Eckler. He's the passing down RB for the Commanders and should get plenty of work and receptions, as Bill gets adjusted to the speed of the NFL.

Chris Rodriguez and Ford a couple good calls at RB, plus I like Jeudy at WR. For QB, Lawrence has a nice matchup.
Starting Lawrence over Purdy in a league where I plan to go QBBC with them all year.
Interested in how you came to this QBBC.

Did you target it or see their schedules lining up well?

TLaw is actually on my Free Agency.

I could/should drop Woody or Pierce for him?

Jeudy and Flacco were a nice connection in camp, but don't expect Browns to be pass happy. The offense will try to be 50-50, run/pass.

I agree that this will be the gameplan, but I think the game gets away from them enough to where they’ll be passing a lot more than they want to in the second half

Charbonnet and Troy Franklin would be mine. Niners defense will be starting like 7 or 8 new players and had trouble with run last year. Franklin has been getting preseason buzz. Not sure if Franklin is rostered in every 12 teamer but he might be going into week 2.

No, they were the best available when I decided to take QB1 (10th round) and QB2 (14th round). But I think Lawrence will bounce back this year. If he doesn’t, then Purdy will start for me most weeks, and that’s fine.

Lawrence starts the year with the Panthers and Bengals. We don't know necessarily which defenses will be bad in 2025, but both of those were really awful in 2024 and didn't do much to get better. I totally believe in the Coen bump for that Jax offense. Lawrence has those "to the house" kind of weapons where all he has to do is get it out of his hand on time.

Jags are going to be huge. Really want to start him over Mahomes this week with the sleeper Brazil game and no Rice for Pat.

Interesting
-Barring an injury, how does Charbonnet get enough touches to crack the Top 25?
Franklin is playing alongside Sutton and Mims? Franklin would be the Slot or when they want to go 3-wide?

I think Franklin has a chance to be one of the real big surprises this year, loaded up on him everywhere for virtually free.

Lawrence>>>Fields IMO

I know Fields is a great runner, I just think he's too limited to trust.

100%, but I'm also a notorious Fields hater.

Jaylen Warren gets a 2-yr extension, also is listed as the RB1 on top of the depth chart in Pittsburgh
Kaleb Johnson is RB3 on the Steelers' depth chart, his outlook vs the Jets in the season opener is not looking too good.

Just a gut feeling that Seattle will want to run the ball a ton and Charbonnet can break one in the 4thQ giving him a 15-100-1 4-31 type stat line. I think Franklin gets more snaps than expected.

If you’ve ever watched Demario intently you’ll see that “Pop” is really, really frail. He might pop for a week or two, but unless he’s ducking hits he’s gonna get Rick and Morty ricky-wrecked. Guy is tiny and the past two springs has ruled the no-contact camp but ball is different.

Charbonnet and Troy Franklin would be mine. Niners defense will be starting like 7 or 8 new players and had trouble with run last year. Franklin has been getting preseason buzz. Not sure if Franklin is rostered in every 12 teamer but he might be going into week 2.

Personally, I think Charbonnet has simply shown enough to see more opportunities. KW hasn't exactly lit the NFL on fire the last two years, and I think his rookie season was a bit overrated too, and he has clearly demonstrated the need to be spelled more.

IDK if it will be enough for Charb to be fantasy relevant week in, week out but he should see more action even if KW stays healthy, IMO.

Except the Browns will need to score 35 points to win and will be throwing the ball all over the field in the 2nd half.

Are we going for true sleepers? Jaylen Warren is ranked in the top 30.

here are some true sleepers

Jaydon Blue
Keon Coleman
Ollie Gordon
I can see an argument for Coleman, for sure, and Blue, I guess (I think this week is way too soon), but Ollie? That feels like you're predicting injury.

Both Achane and Wright are already varying degrees of hurt / injured.

Jeudy and Flacco were a nice connection in camp, but don't expect Browns to be pass happy. The offense will try to be 50-50, run/pass.
Except the Browns will need to score 35 points to win and will be throwing the ball all over the field in the 2nd half.
Burrow's history against this defense is not great, and reports from camp have been VERY positive about this defensive front, so I'd bet the under on that.

Are we going for true sleepers? Jaylen Warren is ranked in the top 30.

here are some true sleepers

Jaydon Blue
Keon Coleman
Ollie Gordon

AFAIK Achane is playing week one.

No?

Calf strains are susceptible to re-aggregation with an enhanced risk when first returning to activity

You gonna start Ollie this week based on that?
