Week 13 horror stories... (1 Viewer)

Here we are...week 13. For many leagues this is the last regular season game of the season. With all the parity and tight races going on in many leagues alot of us a fighting for playoff spots.

For example, in my division in my league I am 8-4...with a one game lead on the two guys behind me whom are both at 7-5. These last 3 weeks have been division games and I've been strugglin. The 3 of us have matching division records at 3-2. This week is the final division game and if I lose there will be an ugly 3 way tie where we are all 8-5....just ugly I tell ya. The two other divisions are the same way.

So I'm on the site last night getting my lineup ready and then the horror sets in...My options at running back are Chester Taylor @ CHICAGO :X , Willis McGahee vs. SAN DIEGO :X , or I can go with Betts vs. ATLANTA or D. Foster @ PHILLY on Monday night. Oh...and my kicker is going against BALTIMORE.

Is anyone else in a similar situation where you are in a must win game but face Fugly matchups? The playoffs look good for my RB's but after this week I may not be in the playoffs! :hot:  :wall:

My RB Options this week (start 2):

McGahee vs Charger

Taylor vs Bear

Johnson vs Raven

I feel your pain.....

I am going with Taylor and McGahee

On the surface I'm not pleased about starting Rudi and Housh against the Ravens. But they both scored against Baltimore in their first meeting, and I'm hoping the kitty cats get juiced up for a pivotal primetime game.

Then again, maybe my other options just look awful and I'm trying to talk myself into optimism here.

Palmer vs. Baltimore

With Ronnie Brown injured I have:

Thomas Jones vs. Minnesota

Ladell Betts vs. Atlanta

Going Betts...

See...my gut tells me to go this route, but my gut hasn't been helping me out very much this year. I'm starting to overanalyze everything now that it's crunchtime and I'm actually leaning towards Betts and...gulp...Foster. :bag: It appears Betts has become a workhorse in Washington now that Portis is out, and I like Foster's (if he even plays  ) matchup against Philly...and it is Monday night football...guys perform better on MNF right?

It's real simple for me this week, if I win I'm in if I lose I'm out.

The match up that's killing me is LT vs. Buffalo. What's killing me is that he has LT. I expect LT alone to drop a 40 burger on me.

I've got to decide between:

M. Drew vs Mia (6th vs run)

J. Lewis vs Cin (19th vs run)

W. McGahee vs SD (7th vs run)

I think I'll go Lewis and McGahee.

I need to win this week to make the playoffs. I started the year with McNabb and a backfield of Ronnie Brown, LaMont Jordan and Dominic Rhodes. Week 13 my backfield looks like this:Sammy MorrisJustin FargasMike Belland I have Steve McNairNeedless to say...I am already thinking about next year. :wall:

Palmer v Baltimore

Chester Taylor v Bears

My RB2 is a mess this week with either T. Bell, M. Bell, DeAngelo, or Sammy Morris

In my main big $$ redraft league, I have Carson Palmer vs. Balt Thurs night (weather looks extremely iffy as well); Andre Johnson @ Oak (they have been extremely tough on opposing passing offenses only giving up something like 157 passing yds/game); Westbrook vs a very tough Carolina defense (Carol needs a win badly, no deep passing game to take pressure off Westy).

My opponent gets Drew Brees vs. SF (I always seem to face a guy w/ a player who's against SF); he also gets FWP vs. TB... I expect to loose

IIRC, Bears are 'only' 8th or so vs. the run. Taylor might not be as bad a play as it appears. I'd be more concerned w/ McGahee vs. SD; SD is #7 and gets Merriman back this week.

I was 6-3 (survived without Fitz), now I'm reeling at 6-6. This is pretty much a must win in this league.

My 3 RB's are:

Ronnie Brown (out) against the Jags (tied for 5th in run defense)

Fred Taylor against Miami (tied for 5th in run defense)

Kevin Jones against the Patriots (3rd in run defense)

My 3 QB's are:

David Carr against the Raiders (1st in pass defense)

David Garrard against Miami (7th in pass defense)

Trent Green against the Browns (13th in pass defense), but since they are 22nd in run defense and the Chiefs have Larry Johnson, he is useless.

Heaven help me.

That Charger defense isn't nearly as good as it's hyped to be.

Start McGahee and see what happens. He did good things against a solid Jags defense.

1st week of playoffs in a 24 team league.

2 conferences of 12.

I'll be starting Chester vs the Bears AND Rudi VS the Ravens.

I'm hoping my WR's of Smith, Holt and Driver will be enough.

Going up against LJ.

I face LJ and SA on the same team in a keeper league.

The good news is that I own LT2....but that will hardly be enough to cover.

The planets have aligned such that I face LT2 in most of my leagues this week. Expect him to go nuts.
Thankfully...I don't have to worry about facing LT2 in the playoffs. The guy that has him isn't gonna make it! :shock:That is ofcourse...assuming I make the playoffs.

I've got an unusual problem - must win game and need to max pts.

Have Hass going against Denver which is tough enough (other options Kitna v Pats or Big Ben)

Bigger problem is at WR I have Roy Williams in one tough matchup then D Jax in another at Denver - only other WR options are Mason, Berrian or go to the WW for Nate washington

Any other week I go Hass/DJax- with the at Denver matchup I am seriously considering benching at least one or both.

Could be overthinking it but what a horror story!

Win and I'm in...I'm playing fellow FBG, Construxboy this week (who is out no matter what) :lmao: (J/K John) ;)

Me vs. Him

Eli Manning (vs. DAL) vs. Carr (at OAK)

Steven Jackson (vs. ARI) vs. M. Barber (at NYG)

W. Parker (vs. TB) vs. L. Johnson (at CLE)

D. Branch (at DEN) vs. Boldin (at STL)

Cotchery (at GB) vs. Driver (vs. NYJ)

TJ Housh (vs. BAL) vs. A. Johnson (at OAK)

Heap (at CIN) vs. Wiggins (at CHI)

Stover (at CIN) vs. Gould (vs. MIN)

SD Defense (at BUF) vs. KC Defense (at CLE)

I also have Travis Henry vs. IND but I'd have to bench Parker, because I am not benching Jackson. That matchup against Indy's run defense is mouthwatering, but can I pull the trigger?

If you need to max points you go with the QB/WR combo. You need to have both your QB and WR go off. If you start (e.g.) Hass and Roy you have to get big results in two separate games. If Roy has a big day, so does Kitna (ditto for the Hass/DJax combo).Looking at a simplistic model, a QB or WR either has a big day or not. There are 6 possible outcomes involving a QB/WR tandem; 2 of those (33%) give you big points. There are 8 outcomes with QB/WR from differenrt teams, with 2 (25%) producing big points from both positions. You also have a 33% chance of coming up small at both positions with the tandem, compared to 25% using a diversified lineup. Its a high risk/high reward strategy, but it sounds as if you can't be satisfied with eking out a win.:endhijack:
