Week 16 Waiver Wire Defenses (1 Viewer)

Another nugget to improve the Chargers D outlook for Sunday (if anyone needed any more justification):

http://www.kffl.com/gnews.php?id=688226-be...naps-in-week-16

Cincinnati Bengals WR Chad Ochocinco (ankle) said WR Jerome Simpson will take half of his snaps in Week 16 because the bone spurs in his ankle are so painful, reports Geoff Hobson, of Bengals.com.
This may be a blessing in disguise. Ocho only has caught about 50% of the balls Carson has thrown to him. (By comparison, Owens was also about 50% and everyone else on the team was over 70% Source. Simpson clearly will be trying to prove himself in what's probably his last shot to do anything in the league. They may not have the same skill set, but these other players are definitely hungry. They looked pretty good against the Browns (though of course that is the Browns).-QG

I'm going Mia ...other option is SF (I dropped them last week, still on WW oponent using Jets). Det - 2nd week in a row on the road, shot their load last week. Mia needs to take out their frustrating season on someone, I'm banking this is the team to do it against.
Shaun Hill may be starting at QB, the Dolphins do poorly at home, I think Detroit winning on the road is a good sign for them (not a bad one), and Calvin is just dangerous to score every single game. Not a lot of great DST options out there right now but Miami may not be so great among what's out there. If Dallas is not available... it definitely gets tougher. Maybe Colts, Jags or Rams.I'd be tempted to go with the Jags in a meaningful game vs a worn out Skins team and turnover/sack machine Rex Grossman.

St. Louis against the Niners?
Not so much, you'd be better off with JAX. At least you can count on turnovers and if your lucky one of those turnovers will be a defensive TD. At least that's how I see it.
Rex just dropped 30 on the cowboys in dallas and Jax has been a horrible defense all year...real and fantasy football. I just don't see their upside being very high. They are the 29th DST in points in my league.St. Louis had 5 sacks against the niners last time they met and they are much better home team.

If anyone is playing in a league where the Cowboys, Patriots, or Chargers defenses are still on the waiver wire, please notify me of when your draft is next year and I will gladly join your league. :lmao:

That being said, it's going to be hard to find a decent play if you didn't already roster a championship game defense several weeks ago. The Rams at home against the 49ers is probably the only decent matchup still available on the majority of waiver wires. However, in terms of overall defensive ranks, I'd have to believe that the Chargers D is the strongest play this week against the Bengals. #1 pass D going up against a team that just lost their #1 receiver? Yes please.
I know the Niners O and coaching staff is bad... but the Niners going to be geeked up to beat the Rams... and it's not like the Rams have a good D... so the Rams would be a risky defense to pick up... that could be a high scoring game...
Huh? Rams are close to tops in the league in sacks, as well as forced fumbles, and yet they somehow still don't have one DTD to show for it. Which probly makes them look worse to you than some of the others out there. Now they play your crappy Niners without Gore...who'd be better off with Kellen Moore back there. IN Saint Louis. That is a great matchup if you ask me, especially for a WW defense. First DTD maybe??? :hophead:

i've got dallas and pitt, neither probably available in most leagues, my league does not penalize high points against, credits fumbles, sacks, ints, td, special teams td's, so despite giving up all those points, dallas far outscored Pitt last week......with Polamalu out again, i'm rolling dallas probably.

Interesting call. I have Dallas and my opponent this week has the Steelers D. Maybe it's the homer in me, but if given the choice, I play the Steelers at home...in the snow...against the Jimmy Clausen led Panthers. They need this game bad and should force some turnovers. If your league rewards for low points scored, I think the Steelers have a great shot of keeping them under 10 tonight.

Edit to add - I hope you are right, though and the Cowboys outscore them in fantasy.

Safe to say, Pitt D is a lock for best matchup of the week. Even without Polamalu they could get defensive scores easy vs. Carolina.

I own Dallas, New England and San Diego, and as things stand I think I'm rolling with San Diego.

I own Dallas & New England.

Although NE has been incredible the last few weeks, I smell a let down in Buffalo with not much on the line.

Dallas gets them some Skelton and some fumbling RBs. I'm all about that.

I'm sold, going with the Rams over the Jets defense, pains me to put them in for the fantasy Super Bowl like this, but I see more upside with the Rams hopefully getting their first DTD vs. a falling apart Jets team with an injured Sanchez or a really old Mark Brunell

falling apart? they just beats pittsburgh and sanchez apparently hurt himself in the 1st quarter

Kinda glad I stayed with the Steelers in my contest entry and stayed away from the popular (and cheaper) alternatives. Have to root for all of these vogue options to have lots of points piled up against 'em I guess :lmao:

I'm rolling with the Lions...don't really have any better options. At this point I took the WW approach for defenses all the way till the championship so I just have to hope they make at least a decent showing.

I'm glad to see that this thread proved useful to many people. Since I began it, I thought I would just pop in and say that I'll be going with the Cowboys Christmas day over the Lions. Those are my only two viable options and the Cowboys seem like the better overall play. When I last checked my league-customized Cheatsheet, it would seem Dodds agrees. Here's hoping.

Good luck to you all.
