week 17 a myth? (1 Viewer)

This isn't random luck since the players that are healthy scratches are usually on a good offense, hence why the team has already locked down a playoff spot, and the player is likely a stud on a fantasy team, since they were a big enough piece for the NFL team to sit them. If it was random luck like injuries...there should be a chance that the 3rd string RB is a healthy scratch to save his strength for the playoffs...but that never happens.
You're wrong. McCoy was a healthy scratch in week 17 last year, despite his team NOT having locked up a playoff spot. It IS random. You don't know what teams will be in position to "rest" players when you draft/pick them up. That is the definition of random.
McCoy had a sprained ankle and was Questionable on the Injury Report. yes that's what I took away from that
McCoy didn't play because they had nothing to play for in week 17. They were out of the playoffs, and he needed 200+ yards to break the eagles rushing record (single-season). It was reported that he was fine, and that he would play. If the game had mattered, he would have played. He HAD to be listed as questionable because he sat out practice during the week.

"If you're going to make that comparison (on needing to plan ahead for a week 17 fantasy championship), why not just make fantasy football extend into the real playoffs as well? MJD's Jaguars not in the playoffs? Too bad, should've planned for that at the draft." - TimHauck

Great quote as it really points out that week 17 is really apart of the playoffs in a way. Also, think if you had 10 people fighting as a team to each win $1mil by answering trivia questions against other teams. Your best or second best person on your team already wins the Million and now you have to find a random person off the street to replace him cause he won't show up. Is that really fair? Where as if someone got tonsillitis and couldn't perform it would be a completly different story.

Are all 32 teams playing in the playoffs?

Nope. Nor do the healthy starters for all 32 teams play in week 17.That's the point.

Correct, if you think about it, it would be very very interesting to see how a league where your championship was the super bowl would pan out.

It’s not a very good point/analogy There are what 8 teams max playing during a playoff weekend. There aren’t enough players actually playing at all in order for a 10 or 12 team league to field a starting lineup (without allowing multiple fantasy teams to use the same player)

Week 17 doesn’t prevent anyone from submitting a complete starting lineup, I understand that you may not submit the lineup you want per se but there are enough NFL players in action for every team in your league to submit a lineup

Never said it was a perfect analogy, but it gets the point across extremely clearly so I'd say it's a pretty good one. A better analogy is it would clearly be less desirable to hold a championship on a bye week.
