Week 5: Lee Evans (1 Viewer)

Who are gonna start over him in Start 3 WR leagues? And during bye weeks?
This obviously is team-specific, but while I anticipated benching Hines Ward and Braylon Edwards behind Evans, Edwards is now in my lineup.

I guess I was the only one happy with his play this week. He was targeted in the red zone and had a couple drops...correct? Anthony Henry still hurt for the Cowboys? He could have a 6-80-1 game...which would be fine with me

I was happy with his performance. He didn't have a great game, but he had a good game. He didn't get a TD, which is what hurt his overall fantasy numbers, but if you extrapolate his Week 4 numbers to a whole season, you get:96 receptions for 1152 yards. That would be a very good season. In fact, the yardage would be good enough for 11th in the NFL last season, and the receptions would have been 3rd in the NFL.The TD's will come, but if he puts up receptions/yardage games comparable to yesterday, I don't really see how you can complain.

The bolded statement above is hilarious. I don't think I've ever seen someone try to extrapolate ONE mediocre game for an entire season. That's fantastic. Here, I'll play too. If you extrapolate his 1st 3 games over the course of a season, you get: 27 receptions, 155 yds, and 0 TDs over 16 games. Those #'s have 4th round pick all over them.

You missed the point. Let me try to slow it down for you.The extrapolation was to show that this one game was pretty good. It wasn't to show what Lee Evans is going to do, but rather to put this one game in perspective. Try to keep up.

It wasn't a bad game. If the guy had that many receptions and yards every game this season (with TD's sprinkled in), then he'd arguably be a Pro Bowler. Yet, you call it a "mediocre" game.

It can't really be called a "mediocre" game if a full season of those mediocre games would put him up for Pro Bowl consideration.

He's gonna end up with around 1000 yards and 6 TDs. Not what I projected coming into the year, but now is certainly not the time to bench him IMO.

Let me try to slow it down for you, then. I don't need to extrapolate a game for a full 16 game season to know if it's a good game or not. For one, lots of mediocre WR's can have a 6/72 game. Secondly, extrapolating one game to a full season to see if it's a "mediocre" game or a "good" game just makes zero sense. You can just look at what other WR's are doing and what good WR's do on a normal basis. TO can have 3 big games and 1 crappy game. I don't start extrapolating each week to figure out if he's doing ok. Lee Evans has had 3 absolutely disgusting weeks and 1 mediocre week. I know, if you multiply it by 16, you get a Pro Bowl season, but WR's (or really no one) just has the same stats over and over. Right now, Evans' production is worthy of a bye week filler and not much more. 6 for 72 against one of the worst defenses in the league doesn't change that no matter how good it looks x 16 games.p.s.--You forgot to multiply his 0 TDs x 16 to get 0 TDs over the course of the season. Pro Bowl material, for sure.

:whoosh: Just when I forgot why the sharkpool sucks at times. We all know Evans has struggled this year, so extrapolating doesn't help anyone. It's just a matter of opinion as to why and if he'll improve. I think he will, actually, I'd bet on it. As I've mentioned and others have as well, his 1st 3 games were against some of the better defenses he'll see this year. FF playoff time, he has a pretty nice schedule.

this is the main point... 7 points in fantasy football isn't much... it's average for a starting WR...he still has NO tds... which ='s none pro bowl numbers...had he had a TD, he's had 13 points, which is a good start...

I'm still trying to catch up. This thread move quickly maybe we should turn it into the 50th AP vs CT thread.

Anyways I actually think he should be a good WR3 from here on out. He has WR1 potential still IMOO.

 I think "what have you done for me lately" is the way to look at Evans. In my PPR league (1 pt per 10 yds rec), he got me 13 points. 6 catches for 70+ yds ain't that bad (especially if you're playing him at WR3).As long as he continues to get his lions' share of targets, I'll continue to play him.BTW: I just traded for him after week 3.

Probably got him on the cheap good job. He has one or two more weeks of 70 yds or better and people will regret not getting him. I had him last year and he was amazing. Dude is the master of the DOUBLE MOVE. He is the best at it.

He also has a real NFL QB throwing him the ball now.
We'll see. The rookie has looked decent thus far, but I'd like to see how he fares this week before anointing him a real NFL QB. Losman looked impressive at times last year, I think he'll come back.

As a Cowboys homer, this should be a good start for Evans this week. Henry is banged up and Newman doesn't seem to be 100% yet. But the big hole is Roy. He will bite on play action or a double move.

The Giants exploited the secondary week 1, but Dallas hasn't played anyone since that could challenge the secondary.

Week 2: Green, ugly 4 INT

Week 3: Grossman, lost his job

Week 4: Bulger, playing with broken ribs and offense decimated by injuries

I think Evans has a good chance at beating Roy at least once on a deep post Sunday. Since the Bills D has been shredded by injuries, they will probably have some good garbage time for Edwards.

Plus, what are the odds BUF is playing from behind....hmmm. I like him for one deep TD at least.Trent tried a deep ball into the endzone week 4, just threw it badly (or Lee was out of position?).

just looked like a great INT to me

It is just as ridiculous, more in fact, to extrapolate out three games and ignore one good game, especially when a player has several years of exceptional performance. The previous poster was trying to say that IF Evans performs as he did in week4, then he will perform well. Do you dispute that? The "extrapolation" of that one game was intended to show that he did in fact have a good game, not to prove that he will have certain results over the course of the whole season.

I don't know how he will do for the whole season, but I don't think I will base it either wholly upon the three bad games or the one good game; I'll look at past production over several seasons and conclude that I do think he will be very startable in many games the rest of the year.

Roy Williams has yet to learn how to play pass coverage. However he did invent the horse collar so I guess all is even.

Buffalo should be losing and throwing plenty against Dallas. Plus, they're at home on the big stage?

With TJ Housh on a BYE... I do believe THIS is the week I will have him in the starting lineup.

But as always, I won't be starting him with confidence this week or any other from here out.

An update on my roster for you all. I traded S. McDonald, who I acquired off waivers a couple of weeks back straight up for Lee Evans yesterday. I think I got a good deal. I already have Roy Williams so I didn't really want to play 2 DET WRs even though S MaC is on a roll. Looking for Lee to blow up like last year as his schedule opens up.

Evans was a yard away from a 50+ yard score in week one or two (overthrow.) Week 4 would have been a score but he didn't even try to grab it when it got INT in the endzone. I still see a lot of potential for evans this year. This week especially since they will be down 20 after the first quarter!

dickishness comes naturaly with this one

Considering Evans past performance and the fact that changes along the offense have been subtle prior to the Losman injury, isn't it fair to assume that there should be some 'progression to the mean?' He does hold serious buy-low value. A guy in my league just offered him to me straight up for Sammy Morris. With LT2, JLew, Fatdale, Freddy and Leonard on my roster, I think I'll take it. He makes a nice bye week filler for Housh and S.Smith with crazy upside.

Buy low, boys. See what Evans owners will settle for now, before its too late.

:banned: The only thing that worries me is the weather report. But I will take my chances and start Evans w/ Confidence :bowtie:

Unless you really think a guy with 11 catches for 101 yards in four games deserves another start.
Not to mention, another start against Dallas. I'm sure their defense will be all over Buffalo's OLine.
one caveat:you can pass on Dallas..Roy Williams can't defend the deep ball to save his life..a guy like Evans will run right past him.

I bought low on Evans...he had a tough go through the first 3 weeks of the season. His schedule is just starting to lighten up and the upside is there.

I'm hoping he can fill a WR 2/3 role and be a starter on my team.

What's HILARIOUS is the way everyone is writing off Lee Evans. Let's see, 3 of his four opponents have been Steelers, Denver & NE. Three of the toughest DEFs in the league. He finally gets to play the Jets but with a NEW QB and puts up decent numbers. As Evans continues to face easier opponents and becomes more familiar with Edwards, his numbers should only improve. Evans was most probably drafted as a #2 WR. He could single handedly win you your game in any given week and when he doesn't his numbers should resemble those of week 4. Who cares if he is CJ, TO, or Moss? I didn't draft him to be that.

I picked up Lee Evans of the WW dropping Roddy White. I though long and hard about it but I figure Evans has more potential to be a home run and since is going to be my #5 wr in a start 3 wr and 1 flex league. It seems like I have seen numbers that indicate he has a history or starting slow as well. I would feel real uncomfortable about needing him as a starter beyond a WR3. It seems to me he always seemed to be a boom/bust starter but as a bench guy he has great upside or trade value if he puts a couple of good weeks together in a row.

You should be absolutely thrilled Lee Evans was on the waiver wire. That move was a no-brainer.

Just made the same deal in my league. I got Evans, dealt Morris. He's pretty much my 5th WR (start 3 WR, + flex so usually go 4 wide) in a ppr league (10 team, auction re-draft) where I landed AJOhnson, Fitz, Driver, and Cotchery. He'll play while AJ gets healthy and I'm hopeful he shows why most had him in their top 15 WR rankings prior to the beginning of this year.

Coulda, woulda, shoulda. Bottom line, he has sucked thus far, and if he HAD put up numbers the first three weeks that he put up last week, my record would be a lot better. Besides, any player could single handedly win you a game if he goes bananas. Kevin Freaking Curtis won how many games for how many owners in week 3?

I have to deal him because of bye week and roster issues, and I seriously don't think I could even get a kicker for him right now. Todd Heap+Evans for Witten and Nick Folk just got rejected.

Everybody does realize that after 3 games last year he pretty much had the same numbers as after 4 games this year. Just starting slow. He had 1 TD in his first 4 last year. Nothing is changing here. Buy low.

Well, abolsutely no one in my league shares that view. Seriously, I might as well be trying to deal Keenan McCardell.

Everybody does realize that after 3 games last year he pretty much had the same numbers as after 4 games this year.
Not true. After 4 games this year, he has 101 yards. After 3 games last year, he had 151 yards. In other words, with one less game last year, he had 50% more yards than he has this year.Spin it however you want, but Evans is on pace to have 404 receiving yards this year. Considering where he was drafted by most, that totally sucks.

Start Evans this week.

I know Newman is back, but there's still always a good chance Evans could go all "Plaxico" on the Cowboys. Evans is in the Steve Smith, Joey Galloway mold of being able to do a lot with a few receptions at any time against anybody.

If you wanted stability week to week, you should have drafted Hines Ward or someone like that.

All of you that drafted Evans should have known that this was a possibility. Granted, this is the worst case scenario, but still with that schedule and his slow starts and his penchant to be very streaky, this shouldn't SHOCK an owner who drafted Evans early. That is why you do homework. If you did that homework, then you should also know that his chances of turning this around and producing in a big way from here on out are very good.
