Week 6 WW Defense (1 Viewer)

It's a tough week for WW defense, all the crappy teams are playing owned defenses. I agree Bengals vs. Colts feels like it could blow up in your face. I was looking at Vikings @ Bears b/c you're always in the running for sacks and picks with the Bears O, but they shredded them both games last season. Nothing to scary about Oakland at home against the Browns, but McCoy has been pretty careful with the ball and only sacked four times. You figure Ford is going to get a TD return eventually so there is some upside there if you get credit for return TDs.

Maybe the Saints are available in some leagues? Play @ Tampa, who might be w/out Blount & Freeman looking shaky

Washington should be on the wire with there bye last week. Eagles should put up some yards and points but the sacks should be plentiful and always a good shot at a few turnovers from Vick?

This is my choice as well. It's a risk to be sure because there's a lot of firepower on that offense, but they're turnover prone and the Redskins can get after the quarterback.

Man, that one is even more of a powder keg than Bengals-Colts. I know it's a new season and different rosters and all, but let's not forget what happened the last time these teams played. I believe the Skins DST scored -9 in my league.

I have the Texans and am thinking of dropping them for the Bengals but like others here I'm not feeling all that confident about Cincy. The Colts seem to be coming on a bit and I'm not convinced the Bengals are a top-level defense.

Only one i see out there is Bengals vs Indy and it seems to be an iffy pick...Who do you guys think?
I like Cinci again this week. They should be a pretty good play for the rest of the year depending on your scoring. They are the #1 NFL defense so far and they dont have a tough schedule down the road.

I signed Cincy as a mtchup play vs. SF in week 3 and they have surprisingly turned out to be one of the NFL's best defenses. Have not allowed more than 318 yards in a game, and from a fantasy perspective, they've scored on a cheap end-of-game safety and FR for TD.

Besides PIT and BAL, and a home game vs. HOU, schedule looks pretty good for remainder of the season

Same here...
Being in a league with negative points for yards allowed, the Skins against the Eagles isn't a good choice IMO.

Have to hope the skins will be ready to roll after their bye at home. If not, my other D is NE so they are an upgrade every week going forward.

Bears available against Minn?
Doubtful they are available in most leagues. I drafted them and will start them, as my other option (MUST roster 2 D's) is Houston. With DeMarco's injury however, the Texans just took a major hit. I can't see them being worthy of starter consideration going forward. Hope I'm wrong. In another league I picked up Cincy and will start them over Houston as well.Shame on me for counting on the Texans, seems like stuff happens every year that knocks them for a loop.

The Texans haven't really done much for fantasy since Week 1 even with Mario Williams. I'm not sure they have much value at all going forward without him.

If that Michael Vick showed up it wouldn't even be a consideration. But this is 2011 Michael Vick, eager to get sacked or turn the ball over.

Browns look like a potentially nice multi-week play. @OAK this week could be rough, then home VS Seattle and @ SF, tough one on the road in week 9 @ HOU, then two home games against bottom 5 offenses (STL, JAX) and a road game @ Cincy. 4/7 games against bottom 10 offenses in combined total yards/ppg scoring, 3 of them against bottom 5 teams. Plus you could probably grab Miami to play @KC in week 9 (the @ HOU matchup) if you had roster space, I don't see them getting picked up anytime soon. Cribbs isn't the worst bet for return scores either.

I dumped them last week in my 10 team league. They are giving up too many yards and really can't stand the negative points. And they are giving up 135.6 yards a game on the ground so Peterson will have a big day.

I added Washington b/c the bye week and Philly's -10 should make for a nice total. Cincy was dropped in a FAAB claim for Pitt DST (my $9 bid wasn't enough) and now the Bengals D is available friday so I'm thinking about putting in a bid.

I am rolling with CHI in one league. There are no better options in this must carry 2 DEF league.

I am rolling with Cincy again in the other league. I think Indy is improving slowly but I am taking my chances.

OAKLAND

Before you  hear me out.

FBG's has them around a top 10 D this week, and I could see upside for more. They are going to be very emotional in what is the first week at home after Al Davis's passing. The crowd will be juiced after what is bound to be a stirring pregame ceremony. Now the Raiders do have issues at LB with Ro McClain likely not being able to go with an ankle, and Matt Shaugnessy is out for an extended period if not an IR candidate. But the Browns play conservative and lack the playmakers to be scary on offense. Looking forward, the Raiders have 3 nice matchups in a row (CLE, KC, DEN), tucked around their bye week. Their FF playoff schedule looks sweet too. I picked them up last week in my rent-a-defense league, and am looking to hold them unless the team goes south. (Hope not  )

Gotta be the Bills.
It's funny, the Bills are pretty much still largely UNowned but they have had four straight consistent weeks. Not 31 one week, 4 another, all 12-17 points.Which I get, given their recent history. But check out the FF points allowed to opposing FF DST's: the Giants are somewhere around 4th MOST and Indy is somewhere around 14th most, which surprised me. And Painter (& Garcon) is looking better and who knows Wayne may show up.Right now I'm going Bills and rolling the dice. The Giants offense could do well and the Bills defense could also still do well in terms of FF points. The Bengals have looked good on defense but FF-wise they have scored only 4, 6 and 7 points vs Denver, Cleveland and Buffalo. Kind of average, get-by, mediocre scores.

They are giving up over 422 yards a game. Not worth it in a league that takes away points with yards allowed.

My leagues deal with points, not yards, but are weighted heavily towards sacks and turnovers. I'm going with Oakland or Buffalo accordingly.

They have been getting turnovers and sacks, and they have faced a tough opening stretch of games that is finally behind them. (@DEN,@BUF,NYJ,NEP,@HOU). The yards per game isn't good, I agree. But you'd be hard pressed to get through that schedule with glowing defensive statistics.

Some teams on many WWs:

Both Vikings and Washington are on pace to have many more sacks this year than last. Redskins are on pace for 60!

Can someone explain this? I.e., Is it legit or fluke?

Oakland was third in the league last year with 47 sacks (48 was tops). They are on pace for 45 so they appear to at least be as solid as they were a year ago.

The Redskins are my pick as well. I picked them up in two leagues this week, banking on the extra week of rest and preparation they will enjoy before hosting the Eagles. I considered the Vikings, but when evaluating waiver wire pickups, I tend to give the edge to players and teams who are already past their bye week.
