Wesley Woodyard (1 Viewer)

Assuming DJ has played his last game in Denver (and I realize we aren't there yet), what are the chances that Woodyard becomes a LB3 with upside? He will be playing every down, and he has always answered the bell whenever they called upon him. If he continues to play well for a full season, doesn't he become a fantasy factor? I've had him on my radar for quite a while now, but he isn't on anyone's list for dynasty rankings. I can get him dirt cheap in my dynasty IDP right now.

He is a lb 3 until dj returns, nothing after that. He doesnt rush the passer and denver will most likely look to upgrade the position next year. They want Irving to take the mlb job, but if he doesnt step up, they may upgrade mlb instead of olb. However, mays is better than woodyard- so I am guessing they upgrade OLB first.

Woodyard is a good backup and if DJ leaves could take his place.

Woodyard played awesome last year when Williams was out with the elbow. While he doesn't fit the profile of your typical LB, he's fast, athletic and actually matches up well with some of these talented TE's. I may be off a bit, but he posted 10 & 13 tackles in the 2 games he started for Williams last season.

A bronco enthusiast can clarify if woodyards stats are product of good play or speedy lber making down field tackles Ala will witherspoon/Thomas howard after being washed out.

Points are points ya, but better play usually determines how many snaps a player gets. That's where Woodyards ? is, he's young and has scored very well before. He could have some upside, and that upside could evaporate if they replace him with a better on field performer.

My point exactly, since woodyard has stastistically fared well in spurts over the years and never gotten a whiff of a start outside of injuries u have to wonder what kind of player he really is. Joe mays ans mario haggan are journeyman at this point and drawn starts over him

this isn't based on watching any broncos games, but I think it's just that mays is the better run stuffer, while woodyard is better in coverage.

since woodyard isn't going to unseat dj williams, he doesn't really have a spot in base, but probably is more valuable as fill in, or nickel backer where they can use his coverage.

I don't think it has to mean he straight up sucks.

if he takes the dj snaps I don't see any reason he doesn't produce tackles as a 3 down 'backer, but probably not so much in the big play dept.

Joe Mays plays Mike and Mario Haggan plays Sam. Woodyard is an undersized Will and doesn't fit the mold of a Sam or Mike LB. It's not so much a talent deficiency as the guy is just undersized. He's a solid special teamer, good nickle LB, and decent spot starter at Will. But he's not a fit at Sam or Mike which is where Haggan and Mays played. What's interesting is Denver took another smallish Kentucky LB who produced in college late in the draft this year. Danny Trevathan practiced as a starter in nickle packages during OTAs this year. For the short term Wood will probably get the starts at Will while Williams is suspended, but I'm not sure the team views him as a guy who can regularly play as a 3-down LB. However, the Denver Will has been a traditionally decent play as the defense has seen the field quite a bit and the Will backers have tended to see their fair share of chase tackles. I agree with the person who said not to expect many big plays from Wood.

16 team IDP- he has been an excellent & cheap spot starter for me these past couple of years. I think he is great LB depth.
