The Philadelphia Inquirer reports that Brian Westbrook passed his physical in St. Louis today and says he "might very well end up joining the Rams."

Why is he even continuing to play. I love that players are tough and I get that he probably still needs the money and this is his livelihood, but the next time he gets hit hard, and it happens a lot, he could wind up dying on the field. I hope not, since he is one of my favorites, but it seems to risky for me.

And why would a team want to take that risk

He's a bright guy, I'm sure he could land an analyst gig with ESPN or NFL network if he really needs the money. Guess its just his competitive nature - but I agree that he should seriously consider hanging it up. His skills have clearly eroded and the concussion and knee injuries are no joke.

He's holding onto that Championship dream. :goodposting:
That's the problem I have here. The only reason for him to come back it to try to get that ring. The fact that he even took a physical with the Rams shows he's still got some brain trauma affecting his cognitive reasoning. Did they do a brain scan in the physical? If not they need to.

No, I think money is the motivator here, and the guarantee of a min veterans salary if he's on the week 1 roster. I'm sure his first choice would have been to a contender. I think he had little interest and is taking what he can get. This tells me that he simply needs the money and didn't have other offers from playoff teams. He gave a lot to the league for many years, and kept plugging away even though he didn't have the most durable frame. I don't begrudge him the chance to make a little extra standing on the sidelines. I just wouldn't want to see him get hurt.

He's made around $30M in his career, but I've learned to never doubt the talent of athlete to throw away money.

Well said.

Both good points.

I want him and TO in WAS...the Linc would implode when the Skins win both games this year.
I think the impact of losing McNabb has been underrated and I wouldn't be surprised if they lost both games this year. Just because Kolb was slinging it a couple of games doesn't mean he can carry the team to the playoffs (like McNabb did just about every year).

I think Westbrook called up his ole buddy McNabb and said " hey man need a favor, the Rams are not offering enough money, do me a solid and have shanny bring me in for a looksee so ST. Louis will come off some more cash." Mcnabb "no problrm buddy"

Seriously though if he has anything in the tank left i would rather have him than FWP in Wasington

...and I have to add: While the Rams are in desperate need of a backup RB, Westy is not a guy that makes me feel at all better as far as a healthy option to Stephen Jackson.

Really? I like it. His skill hasn't disappeared, he just can't be counted on to carry the load. A RB with concussion problems looks a lot better as a backup than as a starter. The Rams sign him, he can lessen SJax's load, and if/when SJax goes down with another injury, he can be a much better part of a RBBC than Darby or Ogbayanna-whatshisname. Very little risk, he'd take the roster spot of some crappy RB, catches the ball, knows how to win, I don't see a downside.
