Westbrook Status Week 6 (1 Viewer)

But Im not the one making definitive statements like there is no reason to believe he will not play.

Looking at his injury, there is a reason to believe he will not play.
When did I say "there is no reason to believe he will not play."??I was arguing the point that there are two posters in this thread that are saying he'll be out 3-4 more weeks.

You believe he won't play, I believe he won't be out 3-4 more weeks.
"There is NO reason to assume that. He'll play this week."

That poster claimed..."I think he will not play for 3-4 weeks".An opinion to which you responded..."There is NO reason to assume that. He'll play this week."So...it appears you believe he will play this week...not just that he won't be out 3-4 weeks.I never claimed I believe he will not play. I believe there is reason to believe he won't...that reason is his injury.

Westbrook went through all the drills during the portions of practice that were open to the public today and could be set for a full day of practice He was practicing with his midsection taped/wrapped.

I'm paraphrasing an Eagles beat writer on Sportstalk 950 today.

Even if he plays, do you really think the goal line is the best place for him with a torn abdominal muscle? I see them dropping in CBuck or Hunt at the goalline anyway. So dont expect too much this week even if he does play. With bye week woes, I may not have much of a choice though, him or Anthony Thomas. ;) I think I will have to take my chances and hope for the best.
As anyone who owned last year him will tell you...if he's active, you play him. Period.

Rotoworld:

Brian Westbrook (abdomen) and L.J. Smith (groin) returned to practice without restrictions on Wednesday.

After healing during Philadelphia's Week 5 bye, both will start versus the Jets barring a setback during the week. The Jets have not been stout against the run all season, so Westbrook should have a huge day Sunday.

Just want to point out that the bolded part is rotoworld commentary and not reported on philadelphiaeagles.com

A co-worker who picked up Buckhalter last night said that he read Westbrook was practicing in an "elaborate contraption". From what I heard he was just taped. This co-worker isn't one that typically put out false information, so I was just wondering if anyone else had heard this.

 He was wrapped up. It's even possible that we was wearing one of those vests that they wear sometimes with a rib or abdomen injury. But he didn't have any kind of "contraption" on him at practice yesterday. The newspaper had a photo of him in practice and I can assure you there was nothing that could possibly be construed as a contraption anywhere near Westbrook.

Flak jacket perhaps? Ahman Green went with one in '04.
"I'm going to tell my good buddies at the FBI to send me some good Kevlar to help me out," Green joked in his first comments to reporters since mid-September.

Kevlar is the synthetic mesh material commonly used in body armor worn by politicians, soldiers and journalists in war zones, as well as athletes in hard-contact sports. It's considered five times stronger than steel relative to weight.

"Just a little something that most quarterbacks wear even when they're not hurt," Green said. "Just to prevent stuff. I think Michael Vick wears wore ;) them. But most quarterbacks wear them around the NFL, so it's a normal thing when you have the area injured."
;)

FWIW, I heard the same thing on NFL Sirius this morning.

By far the best news on the injury front for the Eagles was the return to practice of running back Brian Westbrook and tight end L.J. Smith. Westbrook, who missed the Giants game with a strained abdominal muscle, and Correll Buckhalter shared reps with the first-team offense.

"I feel a lot better than [before] the bye week," Westbrook said. "This is an injury that takes time to heal. Hopefully, it heals totally and I'll be able to move on."

Smith, meanwhile, practiced for the first time since undergoing a second surgery for a groin injury related to a sports hernia that was uncovered during the spring. The Eagles' starting tight end has not played since the team's Week 2 loss to Washington. Smith said he practiced a little bit with the first-team offense but acknowledged it will take time to reach the point where he has been in previous seasons.

"I haven't been able to lift with my legs or run, so they have to get tuned up again for me to be full speed," Smith said.

Smith did not guarantee he would play Sunday.

"If I'm going to go out there, I'm not going to put myself in a situation where I was the first two games, where I was just out there hobbling around and didn't look good. If I'm going to go out there, I want to feel like I can contribute in a major way."

Hate to say, but time to drop C-buck (or at least not start him) which sucks as I thought it was a sharky move two weeks ago. Visions of what Westbrook did to Detroit three weeks ago still haunt me.

Brian Westbrook - RB - Eagles Brian Westbrook (abdomen) practiced without limits again Thursday. Westbrook says he's not 100 percent but will start against the Jets, who are allowing four YPC to opposing ball carriers and have yielded six rushing TDs. Oct. 11 - 5:06 p.m. ET Source: philadelphiaeagles.com

I'm a bit confused because 1/2 the time I read it was an abdominal strain and the other 1/2 I'm reading about an abdominal tear. When it happened, all I heard was strain. When did this become a tear, and is it really a tear?

I wonder if Westbrook has EVER been 100% in Week 6 of any season?

Technically, a strain is just a minor tear.

Ah. I did not know this. Thank you! :wall:

It's not a sticky, because there isn't doubt. Westbrook has practiced all week.

Otherwise it seems like we would have sticky threads on all players who don't miss practice.

On one of the local Eagles pre-game shows, Dave Spadaro, a reporter/journalist for the Eagles, said he is back to 100% and will be playing today.
