Westbrook the goalline back this year? (1 Viewer)

i really hope Reid plans on spreading the work.. if last nite is any evidence of things to come, wesbrook will break down by week 6..

Perry doesn't weigh 10 more pounds than Westy. And why does that matter?

Westbrook isn't durable regardless of how much Bruce Perry weighs.

And there's been a lot of talk around Philly of Tapeh being used in short yardage and goal line situations...

35 Bruce Perry RB 25 5-10 215 2 Maryland 36 Brian Westbrook RB 26 5-8 203 5 Villanova And Westbrook played in 13 games in 2004 and 12 last year. 15 in his two other years. If "durable" is playing 16 games in an NFL season then he's not "durable." When he does play he's getting 20 touches a game and he's producing.

Very true. But Reid CHOSE not to play Westbrook in the last two games after losing T.O. and the Eagles having clinched homefield advantage. He was a healthy DNP.1 game missed in 2002, 2003, 2004. Last year was the first time Westbrook ever had an injury of any significant length of time (longer than 1 week).

Reid does not show his play book in preseason. I would be more inclined to think that having Westbrook take a goal line carry is exactly what won't happen in the regular season.

I know there's a lot of hype about the Eagles running more this year. Reid's entering his 8th season in Philly. He's not about to suddenly change his play calling. Reid says a lot of things, but its what he does that matters. And dont' take too much from one preseason game.

I am sure Reid has an idea of how many touches he wants Westbrook to have. Since Westbrook was only playing one series, his touches were going to be saturated.

Remember, Moats was held out of this game because of an injury. It's entirely possible that the Eagles are intending on having him be the goalline back when he returns.

Westbrook's value would increase quite a bit if he did get the short TDs added to his total, though.

Where'd you get those weights at? NFL.com has perry at 200. Westy may have only missed one game in a few seasons, but he missed playoff time too. Just looking at how many games he played doesn't tell the whole story. Westy isn't durable and is an injury risk. Besides, the most carries he ever had was 177. It's not like he's getting hurt after 300+ carries.

Is this just discussion, or is there an article being discussed here? I mean, obviously anybody's stock goes up if they get the goalline love. I didn't get to watch the game, was Westy in there down at the stripe? If so, how did he fair. I am thinking he did pretty well as he's a shifty little bugger.

On the eagles first drive westbrook took the ball and ran well. They got down to the goaline and didn't pull him. He took it to the goaline from about the 3 or 4 then ran it in on his next try.

Maybe Westbrook was in the game because the Eagles were still in their base (spread) offense 3 or 4 yards from the line of scrimmage?

It's almost impossible to make a goal line determination at this point, especially with Moats still out . . .

I'm pretty sure moats will not be getting goal line carries since he is the same size as westbrook. 5'8 205 is a little small to be getting goal line duties.

This should be a question any beat report will be asking Andy Reid this morning. You know someone somewhere will be askign Andy about his choice to use Brian at the goal line.... just a matter time before we will have a quote on read on this.

He almost got in in from the six or five and then punched it in from the one. He basically moved them down the entire field. After the opening drive he and McNabb were taken out.BTW, was anyone else kind of shocked to see just how bad Jeff Garcia played? Watching him play I couldn't beleive that he was ever a starter in the NFL. If McNabb goes down Philly is screwed.

The Raiders D looked horrible and I wouldn't change any projections based on last nights series.
