What’s with all the leg injuries? (1 Viewer)

I recall when the new tackling rules went into place, many players complained that it would lead to more leg injuries, as if they could no longer go high, they’d go low.

And we seem to have a huge number of ankle, foot & knee injuries this year to offensive skill positions.

So was this a predictable outcome or merely coincidence?  And are concussions reduced by such a dramatic number that it’s worth blown out knees, sprained ankles or foot injuries?  it’s not like there haven’t been any concussions.

or am I imagining things, and it’s just like any other year?

I think you're on to something, for sure. I think guys are going hard and low and drilling knees and ankles. I can't prove this. It could be wrong. That's what my naked eye tells me whenever I see or hear about another knee sprain or the like. Blunt trauma and impact.

The foot thing is more of a general conditioning/wear type thing, IMHO.

OTOH, a lot of the knee injuries (notably ACLs) and Achilles tears are non-contact, which could point more toward lack of training camp.

I feel like I have seen more after the tackle, play is over, alligator-roll twisting of the legs by defenders this year. I have seen it in the past but mostly at lower levels than the NFL.

As others have mentioned so many of the non-contact variety are likely attributable to less practice for many and off-season build up beyond just training camp.
