What are all 32 teams playing for this week? (1 Viewer)

I know I should do more of the leg work for this but this is the type of thing that I eff-up royally. If someone has the time or desire to put together a list of what every team has on the line for week 17, or a link to a list, it would be very helpful. I did see in another thread that NOR needs 85 yards to Graham for a record and will try to protect Brees's new record from Brady as incentives; items like this are food for thought for a week 17 Superbowl. The list below contains snippets that I have taken from other threads and maybe some subscriber content; if I have crossed some line I apologize and it certainly was not to reward myself.

Atlanta vs. TB:

Needs a win for the 5th seed. Looks like Roddy White needs 4 catches for 100 receptions. Julio Jones needs 117 yards for 1,000 on the season.

Arizona vs. SEA: Eliminated. If Arizona wins it will finish the season 8-8. Quite an accomplishment after starting 1-6. L. Fitzgerald needs 2 TDs to hit double-digits for the first time since 2009.

Baltimore @ CIN: Division title at stake. Torrey Smith needs 80 yards to pass Boldin for the team lead in receiving yards.

Buffalo @ NE: Eliminated and NE (who needs the game) will want some payback after losing earlier in the year to them. S. Johnson needs 36 yards to reach a 1,000 for the season.

Carolina@ NOR:Eliminated but Newton and Co. are playing spirited ball; NO needs this game will it be a shootout?

Cincinnati vs. BAL: Still alive for the last Wild Card spot. Per Schefter, if Benson gets to 1100 yards he gets a $250k bonus (he needs 84 yards)

Chicago @ MIN: Eliminated

Cleveland vs. PIT: Eliminated. A loss helps draft placement, they have two 1st rounders for 2012

.Dallas @ NYG:

Need to win to make playoffs. Dez Bryant needs 142 yards for 1,000 on the season and 1 TD for 10 TDs on the season. Witten needs 127 yards for 1,000.

Denver vs. KC: Need to win to make playoffs. Control own destiny.

Detroit @ GB: Needs a win for the 5th seed? Calvin needs 63 yards for 1,500 on the season.

Green Bay vs. DET: Secured HFA. Does GB keep Rodgers in the game to keep the bidding low on FA Flynn or do the put Flynn out with all the bench players to make him look bad? Rodgers has 45 TDs for the season, just 6 from breaking Brady's record.

Houston vs. TEN:Locked in at #3. Ben Tate needs 125 yards for 1,000.

Indianapolis

@ JAX:Need a loss for the #1 overall pick. Garcon needs 75 yards for 1,000 for the season, a total he has never reached; R Wayne needs 113 for 1,000.

Jacksonville vs. IND: In addition to going for the league rushing title, MJD is 136 yards short of Fred Taylor's single season franchise high.

Kansas City @ DEN: playing spoiler to Denver and for Romeo Crennel; Orton back in town against the team that cut him.

Miami vs. NYJ:Eliminated but they hate the Jets; Jason Taylor's last game.

Minnesota vs. CHI: Eliminated. Ponder to start, needs to hold off Webb. Harvin needs 148 yards for a 1,000.

New England vs. BUF: Patriots secure HFA with a win. Brady is less than 200 passing yards behind Brees, and his record, headed into week 17. Welker needs 1 TD for 10.

New Orleans

vs. CAR: playoff bye at stake. Colston needs 2 yards for 1,000.

New York Jets @ MIA:

Need to win to make playoffs, will pull out all stops to win game and run up score to save face.

New York Giants

vs. DAL: Need to win to make playoffs and possibly save Coughlin's job. Cruz , who owns the NYG single season receiving record, needs 142 yards for 1,500 on the season.

Oakland vs. SD:Need to win to make playoffs. M. Bush needs 81 yards rushing for 1,000.

Philadelphia vs. WAS: Eliminated from the playoffs. May need to win to solidify Reid's future. Desean Jackson needs 125 yards for 1,000.

Pittsburgh @ CLE:

Division title at stake, first round bye. Roethlisberger to start? Wallace needs 2 TDs for 10 on the year; he also needs 818 yards for 2,000 which was his pre-season prediction, so be prepared for a big game. Mendenhall needs 110 yards for 1,000.

St. Louis

vs. SF:Need to lose and IND to win to get #1 overall pick. they know their coach is out the door. They are already in end the season mode. I don't see a last stand for Spags.

San Diego @ OAK:Eliminated from playoffs

San Francisco @ STL: SF has yet to wrap up a first round bye.

Seattle @ ARI: Eliminated

Tampa Bay @ ATL:Eliminated

Tennessee @ HOU:Need to win to make playoffs. Chris Johnson is trying to save some of next year's salary by getting to 1000 yards. Chris Johnson has a contract incentive attached to a 1,000-yard season but only needs 14 yards. Nate Washington needs 69 yards for 1,000.

Washington @ PHI:Eliminated, Jabar Gaffney needs 81 yards for 1,000.

Detroit & Atlanta are both fighting for the #5 seed

Cincy is still alive for the last Wild Card spot

Aside from the division title, Baltimore & Pittsburgh are also fighting for the #2 seed and 1st round bye

A St.Louis lose & Indy win gives the Rams the top pick

Focusing on teams out of playoff or seeding contention - just teams off the top of my head:

Philadelphia is playing to finish 8 - 8 , possibly get McCoy the league rushing title and/or the Philadelphia rushing title. Since MJD is also playing McCoy will not get the league title but needs like 123 yards for the all time Philly rushing yards. They would also like to add to his all time Philly TD record.

Kansas City is playing spoiler to Denver and for Romeo Crennel.

Bears are playing hard for Lovie Smith and to not finish with losing record.

Seattle seems to still be playing hard. I think the Marshawn Lynch effect offset the rah rah college ball coach this year and the team is still playing hard.

Carolina is still playing hard - this whole year was to get Cam Newton experience in the NFL. Next year Carolina will run a more balance offense and focus on traditional football but not this last game. They want to set all time rookie stats for Cam.

Teams that have given up or are right there imo:

Rams - they know their coach is out the door. They are already in end the season mode. I don't see a last stand for Spags.

Buffalo - they will try to game plan the same way as when they beat NE. New England added Gronkowski more to the offense after that loss. Buffalo will start with effort but will give up the ghost if they go down by 10 points imo.

Tampa Bay - they have regressed week to week and now are in name calling mode.

Indy - they should run the same play not to lose offense the Bears did against Green Bay and secure that overall number one spot. If the game is close due to Jags keeping Indy in the game now that would be interesting.

Indy can beat Jax. They probably benched Painter too early, if they were going to tank they should have gone all the way and gone winless. That is a vet team that has pride and talent. They have gone 2-2 since Orlovsky came in, including 2 respectable losses to the Pats and Ravens and then 2 straight wins. Now Jax, what are they playing for? MJD's franchise record? Ok, that just means they will run all day regardless of the situation.

St Louis - my question is can they, will they even keep it close in the first half? Will they even try? Do they even care if they go down as the worst team in the league? I doubt it.

The Rams get the no. 1 overall pick, how funny.

Some really good lists above.

Philly may care about 8-8, but they are completely eliminated. SD is also done.

Denver does not NEED to win for playoffs. They can get in with SD beating OAK. Still, they definitely have some huge motivation to win. SD is only +3 to help Denver this weekend, but I think they will roll over.

I agree about Indy still trying and playing better. I won't be surprised at all if they beat Jax. Jax usually doesn't quit early either though.

Miami and KC seem to be the 2 teams who have embraced the spoiler role. I also wouldn't be surprised to see some fight out of the Browns this week. They probably don't have the players to make it matter though.

Giants-Cowboys and Bengals-Ravens are going to be wars.

The problem with Atl is the Det game will be over. If Det wins Atl rests.
I think Detroit is going to play to get the #5 seed. The Saints will be scoreboard watching. If the Rams lie down in the first half vs the 49ers, the Saints will be more likely to rest people. It'll be interesting if they try to keep Brees ahead of Brady, though. The Jags will be playing for the MJD rushing touchdown. The management might be playing to keep Andrew Luck out of the division, though ;)The Dolphins will be playing to ruin the Jets' season.-QG

Seattle seems to still be playing hard. I think the Marshawn Lynch effect offset the rah rah college ball coach this year and the team is still playing hard.
 Why does everyone hate Pete Carroll so much? Carroll was the reason why Seattle traded for Marshawn and why we've drafted 3 O-linemen early in the past two drafts. Marshawn is successful because of Pete, not in spite of him. That said, Seattle has a lot of gain by losing this next week. They can (depending on who wins and loses) get as high as the 10th overall pick or as low (again, depending on who wins/loses) as the 19th. I would say that they should be "playing" for that 10th pick.

For the Browns just write down: DUH! Its Steeler week!
Unfortunately for the Browns, there's been too much DUH this year already. If it hasn't been mentioned already Chris Johnson is trying to save some of next year's salary by getting to 1000 yards.-QG

Reminds me of the classic thread last year when it was debated whether Seattle should go for the division title or the top-6 pick.-QG

I wouldn't trade that playoff game (and the BeastQuake) for anything obviously. This is a bit different since we can't make the playoffs in any circumstance, so draft position sounds nice.Of course, a lot can be said about confidence and a winning mindset, especially with a young team...

Houston is locked in at #3. However they have a number of things they may play for. They haven't clicked on offense as well since the bye week, including the O-line who are working a replacement guard in with Mike Brisiel injured. They have a rookie QB who needs more reps. They have Andre Johnson who needs to get back to game speed/shape, and who has said he wants to play with a game count on him. Finally, they have the opportunity to put a coup de grace on the team-formerly-known-as-the-Oilers chances of making the playoffs.

I don't know how much I believe Kubiak fully, but he's said they are approaching this the same as any game. I could see Houston playing starters early on, but pulling them if it ends up being a lopsided game. If I have to wager, I'd say they play their starters, and I think they should. They really do need the practice time for Yates with the whole offense on the field together.

BAL can win the division and get a 1st round bye with a win @CIN, OR a PIT loss @CLE, OR a tie @CIN with a PIT tie @CLE.

BAL can also get the #1 seed with a win and a NE loss vs BUF

PIT can win the division and get a 1st round bye with a win @CLE and a BAL loss or tie @CIN, or a tie @CLE and a BAL loss @CIN

I'm not sure how the tie breaker goes between NE and PIT for the #1 seed if PIT wins the division and NE loses to BUF.

Looks like Roddy White needs 4 catches for 100. Gotta figure that even if they have nothing to play for they'll get him that.

I don't see Houston showing up in this game. I think they'll run some plays and play their guys but I just can't see how Tenn doesn't come in with more heart when Houston is looking at it as a pre-season game and Tenn needs it for the playoffs.

Is it just me or was that the quietest 96 catches ever?
