What Did You Do Today? This Guy Played With U2 (1 Viewer)

At a show in Phoenix last week, Edge from U2 apparently forgot how to play guitar on In God's Country, which is understandable seeing how they hadn't played that song in 14 years. Rather than just play another song, they pulled a guy out of the crowd to play the guitar part. Needless to say, the guy got a little excited. And he did a decent job.

In case this wasn't a rhetorical question, I got my tire repaired and then headed into work a little late. That pesky TPMS device was on the fritz again.

Grantland article said this U2 tour was a "soft ticket" with tickets being scalped for $20 in the parking lot before the show. Based on this video it looks like Bono sings karaoke now.

Meh. Not sure the scalper thing means much of anything. The face value for cheap seats in my area (Boston) is only $30, so Grantland's assertion that scalped tickets are going for an 80% discount seems unlikely.

I have been going to U2 shows for over 30 years now (god I'm old), and I have always been able to get decent seats at or near face value from scalpers outside the venue, a couple times under face value. When you see someone with a giant stack of tickets in their hands, it's not difficult to find tickets at a reasonable price.

He seemed a little over the top with his excitement.
Yep. Looked like a pre-planned attempt at a viral moment. Edge really forgot the chords to In God's Country? It's like 2 or 3 chords over and over.
They hadn't played the song since 2001. It was the 5th show of their tour. It was during an informal audience-picks-the-songs, impromptu segment, so it's very possible they hadn't even rehearsed the song. And Edge had fallen off the stage a few days earlier and may have had a concussion. Maybe he didn't forget the chords, but they still plucked a guy out of the crowd to play an instrument. It's fairly common that performers yank people of the crowd out to dance around or scream a chorus and sing, but I haven't seen many instances when a spectator got brought on stage to play with a band (not a guest artist, a regular Joe).

You'd know better than I would. Just saying what it looked like to me.

haven't seen the vid, but would guess at least 10% of the people in the building could get up and play the chords to IGC passably.

What it looked like was full awesomeness playing with the Greates Band in the WorldTM. I think you're smoking too much weed, willie.
