What happened to Mark Clayton this year? (1 Viewer)

What happened to Mark Clayton.?

Many people had him ranked as a top 25 WR this year. Coming off a year where Clayton had 67 catches, 939 yards + 5 td's. I (and many others) thought Clayton had a lot of upside in 2007.

I know he was banged up to start the season. Is there more to it than that?

I also noticed that he has been getting a few more looks the last couple of weeks. Could Clayton return to form for the second part of the season?

Any BLT homers with some info?

He has killed me, but I have hung onto him and expect a better second half for two reasons. One, he seems healthy, and coming off a bye week so he has time to fully heal up his dinged up legs. He faces a tough Pitt D in week 9, but I expect better things with Cincy and CLE the weeks following. Second, I think that Boller is an upgrade over McNair. I think he throws a better deep ball and spreads the ball around, unlike McNabb who seems to have developed an affinity for Mason. But I am an owner, so I may be biased.

I agree. I think he is a great buy low player candidate for the second half.

I dumped Demtrius Williams to pick up Clayton this week... Sounds like McNair might be back after the BYE, thus making Williams pretty much worthless, IMO. I need to start Clayton as my WR3 week 10 vs. Cincy to cover Stallworth's BYE, so I'm hoping he's over his lower leg problems.

Forget buying low, in most of my 12-team 14-player roster leagues he's available on the waiver wire.

I am thinking of picking him up in a couple after this week to see how things pan out. He's one of the WRs I'm waiting on. (along with Reggie Brown and Arnaz Battle)

Clayton has 34 targets in essentially 5 games this year. With those 34 targets, he's only managed 18 catches for 153 yards. Basically, he's catching about 53% of the passes thrown to him.

Meanwhile, Derrick Mason has 81 targets in 7 games, and 56 catches for 529 yards. So he's catching about 64% of passes - and still has a higher yds per catch than Clayton.

Ravens homers - does Clayton move like he's injured still? Based on the numbers above, I'd speculate that Clayton just isn't getting separation...

....I would imagine it has something to do with injury.

He's worthless in a redraft. Good buy in a dynasty though if you can afford to wait 1-2 years.

Last 2 weeks

Mason: 18 targets, 12 catches, 157 yds, 1 TD

Clayton: 13 targets, 8 catches, 72 yds, 0 TD

Targets are beginning to equalize, and Clayton is catching a higher % of targets. But it's a small sample size. Difficult to see Mason outproducing Clayton for much longer.

Is Clayton truly healthy now? If so, their relative performance could flip-flop quickly.

From what I understand Clayton is on his way to being healthy. My thinking is if he can get well after the bye week he could start to show some of that potential he flashed last season.

Anybody else thinking this might be a good time to pick Clayton up? He's apparently healthy again; his targets have gone up and the last time he played in Pittsburgh he had a huge game (7-108-1). He's been a huge disappointment so far but I have always liked his talent and potential. I'd be interested in others' thoughts about him - especially Ravens' homers.

I like him in a dynasty. He's a good player. I don't think he'll ever be a star, but I think he can be a Coles/Mason type in the long term.

Clayton jinx, Mark starting to = Michael
Anything is possible, but I doubt it. He's in a tough spot there in Baltimore and he was slowed by some injuries. But he's a good player and I expect him to surface as a viable fantasy WR2/WR3 for future seasons.

I'm in the same position... IF Curry is healthy, I really like him this week since McCown will be starting @ QB (did I honestly just type that I'm glad McCown is back?!?!?)... In a way, I'd almost like to see Curry sit this week, rest up, then I'd start Clayton since I would really have no other choice...
