What is the best starter set-up for this 12-team dynasty? (1 Viewer)

My league is converting from a 10-team start 2QB keeper to a 12-team dynasty. We aren't going to require 2 QB starters, but we would like to have a flex QB slot. Our previous line-up was: 2QB, 2RB, 3WR, TE, K, and DEF, so that's 8 skill position starters (QB, RB, WR, and TEs), which is a number we'd like to maintain. Also, we don't want to have an option to start 3 RBs. So, we've come up with the following possible starter requirements:

QB

QB/WR

RB

RB

WR

WR

WR/TE

TE

K

DEF

Does this look feasible? Will the player pool be too diluted to require 8 skill position starters from 12 teams? Will the receivers be stretched too thin? How are other 12-team, 2 QB leagues structured? We want to get this right since we're converting to dynasty and won't be able to change the system down the road.

Start with a 'Base Lineup':

1QB, 1RB, 3WR, 1TE

Allow 2 Flex Players, but don't allow them to be 'doubled up' at any one position...

...with 12 Teams, and the permutations you can derive from this setup, there should be plenty of 'start worthy' players to go around...

...oh, and use an AUCTION to disperse the players in your startup dynasty. Everyone should have EQUAL ACCESS to every player available, and the opportunity to put on their thinking caps as to best set themselves up for current and long term success...

We're doing something similar but allowing the flex to be any position player - 1 QB, 2 RB, 3 WR, 1 TE, 1 K, 1 D, 1 flex (QB, RB, WR TE) in a 1 PPR league. I think that takes care of any dilution problem at any position. It also makes the positions of QB, RB, and WR have relatively the same value.

Great suggestion, this is exactly the kind of advice I was hoping to get here. I'll have to toy with MFL to see if there's a way to restrict the flexes from being 'doubled up'.

An auction would certainly be ideal but I don't think these guys are going to go for it. What are some other things can we do to promote parity? I think restricting the RBs to a max of 2 starters can help curtail the RB hoarding I'm seeing in my other 12-team dynasty that allows 3 starters. We're going with 25-man rosters as of now, but that could increase or decrease as needed. We'll have worst-to-first system for waivers and future draft picks. I'd like to present some other rules if there's anything we're missing..

Yeah, our setup of 2QB, 2RB, 3WR, TE, K, and D with PPR for the last few seasons kept the skill positions fairly even. I worry that allowing 3 RB starters makes them too scarce though.

MFL is very flexible when it comes to this. We do almost the same thing.

1QB

1RB

3WR

1TE

and 2 Flex - QB/RB/WR/TE. You can start a Max of 2 QBS, but you can double up on the other positions. It makes drafts interesting. RB don't go off the board like crazy.
