What is the Bonzai Method? (1 Viewer)

I was wondering what the method was so I can refer it to the commissioner if it makes for fair drafting. Just would like to know what it is. Thanks.

I run a 12 team local league. Nothing to serious but we get into it. I proposed the Banzai method as I really like it. We have only really three guys who make any of the decisions around the league as no one else really cares (unless its something big). Right now it's 2-1 but I really have the final say. Im in a quandary and would like your guy's advice.

We have a good mix of owners in our league. About a third really crunch down and do their research every week. Another third are into it but not enough to read message boards every week (about your average fantasy fan). And the other third enjoy playing but I dont think they would go nuts if they werent playing.

Ive looked at the past seasons and the final standings and there is a slight inclination towards the teams who draft nearest to the first spot to finish near the top and teams who drafted near the end to finish near the bottom. But nothing to really cause any big concern (the owner with LT (drafted him 2nd after SA) was second place last year, the team who drafted 10 (SJAX) was 1st). But Id still like to try Banzai as it just seems more fair. The owner who is against it says that the banzai method will kill the parity in our league and thinks that the evidence for Banzai isnt really convincing.

Im contending that because we use last year's standings to pick our draft spots (it's a lottery where the 12th place person gets 25 chips in a bag and it trickles down to the 1st place person getting one chip, then from the order the chips are picked the owners get to choose their spots) that this still gives an advantage to teams who struggle. Also, I dont believe true parity can exist when you have a couple of owners who spend more time then owners who dont.

Just wanted to get your opinion on it?

Here is simple way to approach it...

Have all the owners together and without warning, tell them...

"Right now, if you raise your hand, you will be guaranteed a top 3 pick"

Count how many raise their hand.

Then say...

"Right now if you raise your hand, you will be guaranteed a bottom 3 pick"

Again, counts the hands.

Then ask them if they think it some magical mystical reason why everyone wants a top 3 pick?

Its not. Its just proven over time (even without mathematical breakdowns) that drafting high

offers a seriously large advantage in a (non Banzai) serpentine before any picks are even selected.

Okay, I thought of a good analogy while playing a racing game on xbox. I like to say that standard snake draft is like having a race with 12 cars. One guy is going to get a Dodge Viper (1st pick), and another guy is going to get a Honda Civic (12th pick) with everyone else having cars that fall between those two cars. Now the Honda Civic can still win if he knows the layout of the course, is a really good driver, the cars that perform better than him have a malfunction, etc. but the guy driving the Dodge Viper just needs to be competent enough to know how to shift into drive and he's at a complete advantage.
