I forgot that the last thing U2 released was a cover of Bang A Gong (Get It On) in 2020 with Elton John from the Marc Bolan and T. Rex tribute album Angel Headed Hipster. IMO, as covers go, it's pretty meh. It's a little too campy and not enough rock for my taste.

It's actually the worst of all cover things -- unimaginatively arranged, making it totally unnecessary. The Power Station's ###-kicking complete 80s guitar/snare/big voiced Robert Palmer suited that song well. U2 and Elton make it a lounge act type song, which the original can come close to, but the cover has no menace, no rock (as you said) to it.
Interested to hear the rest of the compilation. Thanks for pointing out there was one.
