Have my 1-keeper, 12-team local draft this afternoon. The keeper is a one-year contract for any player drafted the previous year in the 3rd round or later that wasn't already a keeper.
I'm in the enviable spot to have Larry Johnson as my keeper (took at 5.1 last season). I pick #5 because I snuck into the playoffs with the 6th and final seed and we have two new teams joining the league. The two new owners won't have keepers, but they will get a supplemental pick at the end of the 2nd round to make up the difference.
That leaves 5-7 other keepers that could be running backs (in addition to LJ). Having a combo like LJ and Peyton sounds awfully sweet (particularly with Manning's fantasy playoff schedule). However, that would leave hardly anything to work with at the 2nd RB slot if I take that risk.
Scoring is standard (although QBs get 6 pts for passing TDs but only get 1 point for every 75 yards passing) and the lineup is 1 QB, 2 RB, 2 WR, 1 K, 1 DT, 1 open slot (any position including QB), and 1 RB/WR flex. Bonuses for length of TD (20-49 and then 50+) I only need two starting backs in any given week, but we all know the value of RBs in football.
In this situation, do I bite the bullet and go with arguably the #1 RB and #1 QB combo, or take the "safe" #2 RB in Rudi/S. Jax and hope to get the #2 passer on my depth chart (Hasselbeck)? Note, I rarely go WR early, but with the TD length bonuses, I'll keep CJ, Steve Smith, and the AZ boys in mind.
