What to do with a broken Johnson? (1 Viewer)

???

Footballguy
Hi guys,

I come to you with a dilemma.  David Johnson was just dropped in my league and is now on the waiver wire.  I have number 2 priority.  What is your opinion on me using it to get him?!?  Only 5 bench players no IR slot so it would limit my abilities on the wire.

12 Team League half point PPR, currently 5-1 with the most points in my league by a slight margin.  2nd place is also 5-1.  The payout structure in my league gives 1st place regular season a large percentage of the pool, but then again the glory of winning a championship obviously surpasses that.  My squad is below:

QB: Tom Brady

WR: AJ Green, Jordy Nelson, Larry Fitzgerald

RB: Mark Ingram, Doug Martin

TE: Hunter Henry

Flex: Marshawn Lynch

Bench: Jason Witten, Cooper Kupp, Donte Moncrief, Matt Breida,Chris Ivory

If I were to do it I'd drop Cooper Kupp for him.  Depending who's on the waiver wire I'm prob gonna switch out Witten too.

Help is really appreciated.

I am assuming it is redraft?  I would grab him just to stash him, but your team is pretty solid, to be honest I would possibly drop Lynch over DJ...or maybe Witten as well.

But you have a good solid core.

Thank you, it is redraft.  That is the way I'm leaning also.  The only difficulty I'm having is giving up my number 2 position on the waiver wire for the potential of DJ to play.

I'd say grab him as well, but in case you haven't realized it you have a week 8 bye week WR issue which you need to address. Drop Kupp for DJ and Breida or Ivory for a WR.

Thank you.  Been thinking about that but you'd drop one of them over Witten?  I see a lot of upside possibility in Breida, and especially after the Fournette incident, Ivory may not be a bad guy to hold on to.

On the other side, while Hunter Henry is trending up, and I do see good signs, not 100% comfortable yet.  Witten is a pretty safe bet most weeks.

You'll have to deal with Henry's bye at some point, I don't know the Chargers schedule off the top of my head but at this point you have Kupp and Ivory that are easy drops.  Witten would be third on the list, as I'd be fine rolling with Henry each week and dealing with a bye when it comes (if it's late.  If it's in the next 2 weeks, maybe keep witten).  But yeah, I'd burn the #2 waiver priority on DJ.  If he returns and the Cardinals are still in the hunt - and they are at this point - then he's the missing link that could push you to a title.  If you pass, what's the best WW option that might come along?  New RB for the Ravens/Giants?  If you hoard the top waiver priority you might find yourself in Week 12 using it on a nobody...

DJ is the perfect use for the #2 waiver option in your position.  Your team is strong and has a great start at 5-1.  You don't need an immediate contributor so take the upside chance on DJ for sure.  There won't be a better upside gamble to use the wavier priority on.  That is a perfect fit for your situation.
