I jumped on the wagon a few years ago, and took Kevan Barlow in the first round. It destroyed me.

I love threads like this.

I have been playing since 1990 so you can imagine. We all make them.

Ones that come to mind are:

1) Mark Brunell - 1999 2nd round Blech!!

2) Anthony Thomas - 2002 12th overall

3) JJ Johnson - 3rd round

my first year playing I got mike Vick with my first pick. It was the year he broke his leg in preseason. That game was about two days after the draft.

My first year in 1999, I told everyone that I planned on taking Ricky Williams. I even traded my initial selection (#6) for the 10th pick just so it wouldn't be too much of a reach.

Since I now had the back-to-back picks at the tail end, I figured I would throw everyone off by taking another player first and then RW (since it really didn't make a difference). So I confidentally blurted out "Mark Brunell" because I knew he was a solid NFL QB. Ecch!

While neither pick worked out, I did manage to get Emmitt Smith in the 4th (after everyone pretty much wrote him off as finished) and woke up early one Saturday morning to hear the ESPN report that Trent Green tore his ACL and the starting job was going to some guy named Kurt Warner. Kurt/Emmitt carried my team into a fluke Super Bowl win, but 8 years later, it remains the most ######ed first rounder in my league's storied history. I'm so proud! :D

1990

2nd year I ever played FF

1st pick overall - Barry Sanders should have been my pick

instead I took ----- Dalton Hilliard

have never lived it down

In a redraft in 2002:

1st rounder - Kurt Warner

2nd rounder - Anthony Thomas :wall:

3rd rounder - David Boston

:bag:

Somehow I managed to just miss the playoffs due to tie-breakers.

Edit: Also had a Barlow draft, but I figured there would be a lot of those posts. This was the only draft were I completely whiffed on every one of my top 3 picks.

It's a tie for me...last year to Kevin Jones in rd 1 and the year before I took Barlow in rd 1. Granted, we each ahd 1 keeper, but those picks kill me.

The worst pick all time in my league was someone took the Houston Oilers defense in the 1st round and that was BEFORE we had keepers...still a joke at every draft.

Never made a bad pick that really sticks out to me.

Worst trade ever:

Last year traded FWP (prior to week one) and Jimmy Smith for Nate Burleson. Ouch.

Last season I took Culpepper at 1.10. We can start 2 QBs and passing TDs are worth 6 pts so QBs go very high in our league. Cpep was the #2 scorer in our league in 2004 so I figure it was a good pick.

What made it worse is that I took J. Jones at 2.03 and J. Horn at 3.10. First time in 12 years that I didn't make the playoffs.

It got so bad that midway through the season I changed my team's name to the Strawberry Shortcakes.

By far, last year was my worse year drafting. I drafted number 8 in a ten team league and my first three picks were Deuce, Randy Moss, and JJ Arrington. I also had Bulgar as my QB.. I litereally had to redraft my team from the waiver wire starting week 5 due to injuries!!!! Of course I took honors for last place at the end of the year.

On a side note, I was smart enough to take Larry Johnson in the sixth round and Mike Anderson in the 10th.

I've been looking forward to redeeming myself this year since week 5 last year!!!

pretty much underscores the reason many 1st rounders are there is because of dependability. I've never really risked a first rounder with Jamal Anderson being the exception.

eg. this year I'm not taking Ronnie Brown in the first... (or Reggie Bush in the (early) 2nd)

We had one of our leaguemates take Kordel Stewart #3 the year after his 11 rushing TD year. Not me but I've had my share of what the heck was I thinking drafts. Like last year when I traded up to have 2 1st rounders and took McGahee and K.Jones. Boy that worked out for me.

I too took Warner and Thomas!Arrrhhh. Last place baby.

Took James Stewart, RB Lions in the 2nd round. Three days later, he injures his shoulder in a preseason game and is done for the season. Talk about a bad start to the season.

Ended up with Stacey Mack as my RB2. Ouch.

2002, Kurt Warner at 1.05. I had been a devout RB-first guy for many years, but I just wasn't sold on any of the 1st round backs that year so I went with the "safe"pick. Warner started the season by sucking, culminating in a -1 fantasy point performance against Dallas where he threw a pick and then got injured, missing the next six games.

Oh yeah, Priest Holmes went 1.06 and was the #1 fantasy back that year.

Joe Namath picked him in 3rd round 1970 live draft of course (no PC's then).

Went only for 1259yds 5td's always recall that... lost by a tad ...would of won if he threw a few more TD's.

Before I really knew what the hell I was doing, I took Brett Favre in the first round, when no serious fantasy player in his right mind would have taken him before the 5th... :wall:

Two years ago I essentially burned a a 1st rounder by keeping Kevan Barlow.

Last year I took Kevin Jones with pick 7 in an initial Dynasty Draft. Although he still has time to bail me out on that one.

I forget the year but when Lawrence Phillips went to San Francisco I burned a 2nd rounder on him. I believe I drafted Cecil Collins later in that same draft, although it wasn't early.

If we're including leaguemates, I'll never forget the 2003 rookie draft, 1.02 = Terrence Newman.

In 2003 I took Kurt Warner at 1.12 then Torry Holt at 2.1.

Warner pick was good Holt pick was awful.

Kevin Jones last year (although I got him in the 2nd, which helped sooth the pain.

Fred Taylor one of the years he missed 82 games.

Cade McNown.

I still love FBG, but the days of trusting Joe B and David instead of myself are gone.

In 2003 when Jamal Lewis ran for 2 bills I took him in the first round. Then in the 2nd I took Tiki and he had 3 td's. The worst thing is that I passed on Ahman Green in the 2nd and he had like 1800 and 15 td's. :wall:

AND - I'll never forget the year one of the guys in our league took Terry Glenn, right after he'd been suspended for the season.

2004 - I had Rudi and someone took Perry. All off season I had talked about this guy named Antonio Gates. Instead I took C Buckhalter to handcuff the guy who took Perry.

How'd that work out for me????

Is it really a bad pick if the guy goes down with an unexpected injury? That's life.

KJones last year, Barlow the year before (in 3 leagues) and about 7 years ago I took Mike Cloud in the 5th while he was in KC. Got laughed at for years....don't do this.... :banned:

Also had Marino when he blew out his achilles...also had Testeverde when he blew out his achilles. I took Antowain Smith when he was in Buff in the 3rd as our RB2. First game, 7 carries, 1 yard.

Last year in my keeper league, I kept Darrell Jackson and my first WR selected was Burleson. Luckily I had Chambers during the playoffs.

The list goes on....

last year

12 team redraft

pick 1

1 - shaun alexander - excellent

2 - curtis martin - coming off his best season ever : big bust :wall:

3 - kevin jones - i didnt like it but with all the hype and seeing him at rd 3, i had to pick him - :wall:

4 - javon walker - injured all year - :wall:

5 - drew bennett - sucked and injured much of the year - :wall:

6 - kevan barlow - need i say more? - :wall:

overall, it was my worst draft ever - i actually made the playoffs after a couple trades though ... i also nabbed santana moss in rd 7 or so

edit- forgot i also drafted barlow at what i thought was a steal for round 6

This year when I took Dom Davis in the 2nd round of an early draft.
That is hindsite though. Not your fault really. We are talking about guy's who were bust's based on where you drafted them and how the season played out.I don't count injuires as busts. That is out of everyones hands.

Brad Johnson with the 2nd to last pick in round 2 as the third QB off the board back in 2000. :yucky:

I still somehow manage to lead the league in scoring that season, thanks largely to Robert Smith actually staying in one piece for a whole year, but damn did Beej bite it that year...when he actually played.

Last year I had a tough time.....

1) Duece McCallister

2) D McNabb

3) Caddy

4) DJax

5) Barlow

6) C. Brown

7) Chambers

8) A. Bryant

Thats a tough first half of the draft for me though I didnt mind the draft at the time and you can never really predict injuries but my top 4 picks all had pretty big injury issues. Barlow and Brown didnt too hot hot either but Chambers worked well.

Fred Taylor at 1.5, right before he ripped his groin. Just gravy that he threw the ball up for grabs when he collapsed in pain.

Loved seeing updates like , "Fred Taylor was able to put on his own socks today" all season.
