What week does your fantasy baseball championship take place? (1 Viewer)

Polski Rules

I'm in a 5-player keeper league with 12 teams. This is only the second year of the league.

Last season the regular season ended in week 23 (9/9/07), with the playoffs taking place weeks 24, 25, & 26. Week 26 coincided with the last week of the regular season in baseball.

This season the commish is proposing ending the regular season in week 20 (8/17/08), and having the playoffs during weeks 21, 22, & 23. Thus eliminating 3 weeks of the fantasy season because of pitchers being shut down late in the season, and other issues that take place.

Personally, I don't agree with this switch at all, cause I'd like the season to go as late as possible...but I was just wondering what other leagues do. And when their regular seasons and playoffs end...

Thanks.

H2H?

Seems dumb to play an entire season and then leave your fortunes to a single week of play. Might as well just roll some dice in April and be done with it.

September baseball is a major crapshoot. A compromise position would be to use two week playoff series i.e. weeks 21-22, 23-24, with the finals covering 25-26.

Or you could just go to rotisserie format.

Exactly. If you play baseball you have to play Roto. Season goes from day one to the very last day. Best teams rise to the top.

I disagree completely. I have played in both and there is nothing like H2H. In roto, you can fall out of it in the first three weeks. You can also win it in the first three weeks. That is not day one to the last day. It just seemed boring to me. I am not trying to take away the validity of your opinion, just letting you know there are others out there who dont agree. Its the same thing in football. You have the best team but lose in the semifinals. No different then H2H baseball. As for the playoffs. We start them in week 23 and end them in week 25 (3 weeks). We have never had a problem with guys sitting or not pitching. The worst thing that happened was B Roberts getting hurt championship week for my dad and me beating him because of it. A championship is sweet when it comes against your dad.ETA: I have been playing fantasy baseball since I was in 6th grade and have done many roto leagues thru out the years. I am 30 now and would rather play H2H then roto

Not even close. I have played both and many times the roto league was over in July. At least with a H2H with the top six making the playoffs (Yahoo format), teams are in the race until the final day.

I'm in a ten team AL v NL keeper league. Regular season goes 17 weeks, playoffs go weeks 18-23 (Wk 23 IF necessary). Baseball season ends just in time for start of the football season.

I am also in year 2 of a 5 team keeper H2H. Last year 4 teams made the playoffs. The matchup were each 1 week . Week 24 and week 25 championship. This year we voted to have 6 teams, end the reg season week early . Week 23 is 1st rd, week 24, 2nd rd, championship is 2 weeks, 25 and 26. 2 weeks gives a better determination of the better team as I found out last year with the best reg season team who had the worst possible set up for pitchers in the 1st rd of playoffs and lost

Baseball was invented and meant to play roto. The main reason h2h came about a few years ago was to attract more of the fantasy football crowd. You average baseball fans said the same things you stated about roto baseball. Roto is "boring". So, h2h was came about to appeal to those people. H2H leagues are also usually very shallow leagues (12 teams and under, mixed leagues), so you can find very solid players each week in the free agent pool. What purpose is drafting then? To me that is boring!Look at all the expert leagues (LABR, Tout, NFBC, etc.). Everything is roto. Roto is where the skill is played out over the entire season. It is not like fantasy football where you can score the 11th best score out of 12 teams that week and still win because you got lucky enough to play that 12th (worst) team head-to-head that week.Roto you play everybody, everyday, for the entire season. I flop out $1300 every year to play in NFBC. The draft is everything in a deep league. FA pools are usually very thin. So, if I am out of it after month one I probably messed up my draft and that blame falls on me. But, I keep trying to chip away each week where I can and use skill to try to find hidden gems in the FA pool, which you need to do because there are not the usual solid players you have in a shallow league. All in all, if you like shallow, h2h, Yahoo leagues, more power to you. There is a market for it. I am not trying to put it down. It is just not for me. I want the "boring" challenge of a deep roto league.

Hey, have fun with the H2H. But there is no doubt that you are consciously choosing to inject a much higher dose of luck into the process. Nobody is "out" of a roto league after six weeks. But roto is a cruel and remorseless pruner of weak drafters and lazy owners. Not for the "everybody wins" generation, imo.

i don't play H2H in baseball.

fantasy baseball is the only major fantasy sport that is based on skill. (well, i guess roto baskeball is pretty much the same)

i get my adrenaline rush from fantasy football.

i play fantasy baseball to outwit my leaguemates over a grueling 6-month marathon.

i'm not sure when the best the best time for the championship would be.

We end one week before the regular season does and it works swimmingly.

I prefer roto as well myself, but I think we're stuck with H2H in my league, unfortunately.

Scoresheet leagues have the regular season go through week 26 - a full 162-game schedule.

Play-offs are run using September stats. Play-off line-ups due by the beginning of September.
