WLWT Cincinnati reports that Bengals WR Maurice Purify was arrested at 2AM Tuesday morning for disorderly conduct.

Purify was taken into custody following a skirmish at Jefferson Hall, a bar in Newport (OH). The former Nebraska Cornhusker went undrafted in 2008 after multiple college arrests, including one for DWI and another for assault, trespassing, and resisting. The character-unconscious Bengals still gave him a chance. Purify's already slim chances of making the team should decrease. May. 4 - 10:23 am et

I'm surprised he lasted this long.

The worse news is that I heard yesterday they were talking to Pacman's agent again. Of all the poor character guys they have signed, he's the only one that would really bother me.

The one who's saying there are talks is pacman's agent. The bengals comment was "yeah, his agent called and left a message and we called him back."Just the agent trying to drum up interest, that's all. I highly doubt the bengals sign him.Purify wouldn't make the team anyway. Just makes the decision easier. He was a special teams guy. This is the nfl life. Alot of good guys. A couple bone heads and you usually just hear about the bone heads. Especially the bengals becuase there's a stigma that they're the worst about arrests. It's not news if it's another teams scrub practise squad 9th on the depth chart reciever.

It's not news in this case either. Who cares?

He's roster fodder who was likely to be cut anyway.

When was the last Bengal to be in trouble? That flurry of problems a few years back painted us in the wrong light.

But, good job in generalizing an entire state (especially considering you apparently failed geography) over a few idiots.

And, for the record, of all the "serious" crimes that were committed by Bengals players.....I think the worst was providing alcohol to minors.

They haven't attempted murder (Marvin Harrison), beat their girlfriend (Michael Pittman), raped anyone (Jeramy Stevens)....and so on.....

There are far worse characters in the league than those in Cincinnati.

Harrison wasn't convicted of anything, unlike your bengals.

I don't think that case is closed yet, right?

:rolleyes:Still though....looking back at what he was suspended for.....it was all a bit blown out of proportion. Speeding 79 in 55 (been there), flipped out because a woman stole his wallet at a club (I'd flip out too), altercation outside a home (not sure on details of this one), and the shooting at the club (which he wasn't even present for). I still can't believe he got a year.Having said that, I really wish they'd chill on the reclamation projects. Benson has turned out nice, but stop pushing your luck.

Shoot! It's rained all weekend in cincinnati and now pacman's gonna come in to town and "make it rain" some more...

In retrospect, this should have been very predictable. I'm dying to see if they can make this strategy work. I guess it wouldn't be the first time a team of thugs has been successful.

Apparently the Bengals have also shown interest in RB LaMarcus Coker.

Still beating this dead horse? The Bengals took risks on questionable character guys because they have talent. Cowboys take a shot on Jones and it is a brilliant move or he just gets cut, the Bengals do it and it is just adding another thug? If pacman is half the player he used to be, he immediately upgrades the nickel package. I wouldn't have any problem with hall, joseph, and jones playing the nickel. That combo could easily be top 5 in the league. Football players are not drafted because they are rocket scientists, they are drafted because they are good football players. The Bengals are now at a point with a talent rich roster that these risks can now be let go quickly if the experiment doesnt work.

Summed up nicely, and I'll add Joseph is a free agent in after 2010, Leon Hall after 2011. Their 3rd CB was David Jones at one point last year, ....Jones was a 6th/7th rounder IIRC.Anyhow, the OP is merely trying to stir up something, where nothing exists. Purify would have been lucky to make it to Training Camp. Move along....

In a 14 month stretch back in 2006-2007, ten Bengals were arrested, and they became the butt of jokes everywhere. A lot of franchises might find that embarrassing and work toward building a team with more high character guys. I don't think it's "stirring something up" to ask why in the world they would choose to continue to take chances on guys that have character red flags after that debacle. Not only are they not avoiding guys with character issues, they almost appear to be actively seeking them out. It's a very interesting strategy to say the least. The only reasoning I can think of is maybe they're trying to build a team on the cheap as guys with character problems aren't in high demand by most clubs. :potkettle:

It's an "interesting strategy" that paid off last year to the tune of a AFC North crown and clean sweep of the division. I sure hope they know what they are doing and this doesn't blow up in our faces, but so far so good with the most recent additions (Benson, Tank, etc.). Maybe they can work their magic on Pacman.

I hope he (Pacman) plays better for you than he did for the Cowboys. Not only was he ineffective at corner, but he really disappointed as a punt returner. He made us miss Patrick Crayton, and that's hard to do). I read that Zim will keep him under control. I guess we'll see.
