Madness...it's not even close.

Every now and then, the NBA will script an interesting drama but I much prefer the college game...

They are different forms of entertainment.

MM is like American Idol or The Bachelor. The NBA Playoffs are more like, say, The Wire.

Like this poll, which is/was more popular isn't close and the reasons why are fairly obvious.

Inferior players playing an inferior game in a lottery type setup is much more entertaining than watching the best players in world.

Are you saying they are equally entertaining or both suck? I love soccer but you watch the MLS - how you not be entertained by this?
Watching the last four minutes of a basketball game is only slightly less painful than a case of hemorrhoids.
Watching the first 86 minutes of a soccer game is slightly less painful than being shot in the groin.
FIXED

Basketball is lame....

The NBA sucks.... hard.

March Madness at least has enough emotion and suspense concentrated into a tight enough span that it turns a ####ty sport into great entertainment. I think I watch a half dozen college games all year. I watch most every game during march madness.

MM sets up better for casual office pools, makes it more interesting to a wider audience. Also has more upsets, which makes it less predictable.

So I'm being punished have HAVE to watch one? March Madness.

But this time of year I'm all NHL. Hell, I'll watch NASCAR before either of these 2 choices.

To me, this is like asking if I'd rather watch the Super Bowl or a high school football championship. March Madness = Super Bowl, NBA Playoffs = high school football.

I have absolutely zero interest in the NBA. Actually, it's more like negative interest. Watching some of these small schools beat the powerhouses though is awesome.

The last minute especially. Foul...go to the monitor to see how much time should be left on the clock (a 5 minute process)...free throws...time out...score...see how much time is left on the clock...foul...see how much time should be left on the clock. free throws...time out...missed shot...foul...see how much time is left on the clock...

The NBA playoffs (other than allowing too many teams - 4 per conference would be fine) is the best playoff system in any sport.

The NBA does a more consistent job of any major sport league pro or college at crowning its best team of the year as its playoff champion thanks to a 7 game playoff system.

I prefer it when playoffs crown the best team.... so that's more entertaining to me.

But of course the A.D.D./Bracket crowd who root for the little random schools to pull of their unbelievable upset prefer the one-off format of March Madness.

March Madness accepts too many teams - the rule of thumb should be that if the school has no business winning the title, they should not be in the playoff... no more than 32 teams should make march madneess.

March Madness's 1-off format allows for upsets that wouldn't happen in a best of 3/5 format and thus compromise the audience from seeing better matchups down the road.

March madness is better for casual fans who take delight in David/Goliath stories... but for real fans of basketball, there is little to be gained from this format and it is an insult to the fans of the regular season.

Agree... something has to be done about the pacing at the end of the games... it's gross... it's like what you watched in the first 36-38 minutes is a different game in a close game environment than the last 2-4 minutes with the fouling and the time-outs and all that... its truly horrid.

The best team is the team that wins. HTH

#8 seed is the lowest to ever win it, right? we have YEARS of data to prove this.. so why are we expanding this tournament?

oh.. yeah.. money... not quality of sporting playoff system.

you've never been viewing a 1-off event or participated in an event yourself where you lost a match that you just KNEW if it was played 100 times that you'd win 80-90 of them?

Never lost a game on Maddens due to just a series of bad things happening to you and suffered a result that if it were best of 7 your odds of winning would be HIGH if not absolute?

The question was what's the most entertaining so who cares about crowning the "best" team as champ. March Madness is great because it exposes a lot of the media darling teams and just the craziness of it all makes it amazing. Go sit in a Vegas sportsbook for some March Madness games and you'll see why its the best playoff system in any sport.

Been to Vegas during round 1... man the sportsbook was packed.

For better there are so many games that there are a ton of results.. which is exciting and all... and I admit that to the casual fan that it probably is more entertaining and I expected the exact outcome in the poll.

the NCAA has crafted a good product for the casual TV viewer.

It's a slap in the face though if you are a legitimate fan of the sport and embrace the 35 game regular season just to see it all evaporate because some dude from BFE University had some white guy go 9/10 behind the arc and your entire season is crushed.

What's the "NBA"?

As for college basketball, I think it'd be much more fun if they did away with March Madness and just let coaches vote on who they thought the best team was.

This is ridiculous... It should be an arm wrestling challenge between the equipment managers.

I don't think they award the Stanley Cup on good looks.
