Whats the rule on Forced Fumbles? (1 Viewer)

It's not considered negative points on an Offensive player unless they lose the fumble. Is it still a forced fumble if the team forcing the fumble, does not recover it. Trying to figure out our playoffs and it comes down to this play. Does Olsen get credit for the FF? We play IDP

(12:07) (Shotgun) 18-K.Orton pass short right intended for 23-D.Hester INTERCEPTED by 51-B.Leber at 50. 51-B.Leber to CHI 22 for 28 yards (82-G.Olsen). FUMBLES (82-G.Olsen), RECOVERED by CHI-63-R.Garza at CHI 7. 63-R.Garza to CHI 7 for no gain (51-B.Leber). Minnesota challenged the fumble ruling, and the play was REVERSED. (Shotgun) 18-K.Orton pass short right intended for 23-D.Hester INTERCEPTED by 51-B.Leber at 50. 51-B.Leber to CHI 22 for 28 yards (82-G.Olsen). FUMBLES (82-G.Olsen), ball out of bounds at CHI 22.

I think Olsen should get credit for a forced fumble, but your question is league specific so the only people who know how this should be handled are the people in your league. I mean, he gets credit for it, but is that worth any points since he is an offensive player and not an IDP? That's the real question here. On plays where a turnover takes place, does your league give credit to an offensive player (who is now in a defensive role) if the player forces a fumble, recovers a fumble, etc...Consult your league rules and you will find the answer ... or you'll find that there is no comment on it and there will be the same confusion you have now.

I would think that should be clearly set in the rules already. How have you not discussed points scored for FF in a IDP league? This cant be the first forced fumble of the year that wasnt recovered, can it? I see that you are referring to offensive players and FF, but I think the point still stands. In your points matrix, does the FF points cover all players or just defensive players?

In non-IDP leagues, we only credit DFR.

Offensive players do get points for tackles, forced fumbles, fumble recoverys, etc in our league.... My question, Is it considered a forced fumble if the ball doesn't change hands? Could a player technically recieve credit for 3 FF in game with the other team never losing the ball. Stat Tracker is calling it a tackle and NO FF, The home page scoring system is calling it a tackle and a FF. CBS sportsline does not give credit for the FF but does for the tackle. I am trying to figure out if we need to write Yahoo a letter.

I think that depends on how your league defines forced fumble. By the way you worded your question, it looks like you have been just going with Yahoo's definition this season. It is definitely a forced fumble without a doubt, but does your league only credit them when they turn into a fumble lost or does it credit them whether or not the fumble gets recovered by the other team?This question is clearly with how your league defines a FF, not the website. If your league defines it the way I described (whether or not it gets recovered by the opposing team) then you should get your commish to make a commissioner's adjustment.

I'm wondering if the fact that it was ruled OUT OF BOUNDS on replay makes a difference. It wasn't recovered by either team, so is it not considered a fumble?

Huh? It is clearly a fumble ... it's just not a fumble lost.

Why wouldn't it be a forced fumble? Forced fumbles and fumble recoveries are two different events (and stats). The recovery part has no impact on the fact that a fumble was forced.
