what's up with all these hip injuries (1 Viewer)

seems that 10 years ago these injuries never occurred. Wouldn't surprise me if Mark McGwire is walking down the street one day and all of a sudden his hip disintegrates

heard about the Brett Myers thing.. It's crazy that baseball which has been played for 100 years and now all of a sudden an injury comes out o nowhere and some of the sport's biggest names suffer from it

maybe it's a better diagnostic thing.

I feel like we had never heard of high ankle sprains or sports hernias (maybe i'm just out of it) until a few years ago and suddenly they were all over the place.

Or maybe they're just a bunch of pu-ss-ies now. Also, players didn't charge the mound in the 60s because the pitcher threw it high and tight to them (at least not often), and batters didn't need all that armor they wear today. Yes, today's players are more athletic and stronger in some ways, but they are also made of glass in others and aren't nearly as tough as the men of yesteryear.

I read something online about this being a situation where science has improved and so the diagnosis for a lot injuries has become more sophisticated. Specifically, it mentioned that a lot of the hip injuries we see today would have been diagnosed as groin injuries just 5-10 years ago, but because of some new machine invented recently that is now being used in sports medicine has meant we know more about where the injuries actually come from.

Theory

My speculation on the rash of torn hip labrum injuries is due to the tremendous amount of torque which hitters now have in their swing, trying to hit more home runs and boost their power numbers. Better power numbers get a player bigger dollars come contract time.

No facts, just pure speculation on my part, but if bears watching to see how many power hitters come down with the same hip injuries.

I too have noticed how for a non contact sport, baseball players sure do get hurt a lot.

Even on routine sprints to first, guys pull up lame all the time.

It's gotta be the roids
