What's up with Tampa? (1 Viewer)

After a horrific first game TB looks terrible. Is this the way it's going this season or was that just a week 1 spasm? What do you think about their players? Caddy? Michael Clayton? Galloway? Simms? Are any of these guys fantasy starters against an Atlanta team that looked good week 1? Down the road? Is Atlanta good?

I wouldn't panic over Tampa Bay players. Baltimore played out of their mind and TB had a bad day. It's pretty much the same offense as last year, with a healthier Clayton. I think all four guys you listed are still startable.

Agreed. This was one of those "snowball" games where everything went the Ravens' way & just about nothing went Tampa's. TB is a good team who had a bad game. I don't particularly like Gruden's persona, but I think he's a good coach & will get them back on track. Getting their OL back healthy will help just a smidge, too.

I am way pissed about the Alex Smith TE situation.

Last year there was buzz around this guy, off season mags had him ranked between 14 - 17th best TE, talked about how much Gruden loves him and his potential. Then he doens't touch the ball once in pre-season and was targeted twice Sunday!? What the F??

I'm wondering what will happen with Simms if he has another bad outing. Baltimore slapped him around and now he gets to go against another good defense in Carolina. If he throws 3 interceptions again, I wonder how long until Gruden goes with Gradkowski?

Don't the Vikes play Carolina this week?

I wouldn't panic just yet. They looked horrible, yes. But that was a geeked up Ravens defense that did everything right. Give it another week or two, and then base your decision off that...

:loco: DOH!I meant Atlanta. :D

I think all of Tampa's issues lie with the offensive line. It's a sieve right now. If they can get that patched up they'll probably perform much better.

Simms is the most worrisome here. He looked like he was overwhelmed.

Most if not all offenses will look bad against Baltimore D this year.

Trade for TB players if they are being undervalued.

It's my understanding that Tampa's two starting guards were both injured for last Sunday's contest with the Ravens. Does anyone know how long they're likely to be out?

I think they are a talented team with a very average (at best) quarterback. I've never been sold on Simms and I can never understand why some people seem to like him so much -- especially from a fantasy perspective.

Bucs play Atlanta Vicks.

It looked like he was hurried 10 times, had 5 balls swatted and was sacked 4-5 times.I would be overwhelmed too.

Tampa's D didn't play that bad except for the first drive. Lewis had 78 yds rushing for the game but 36 came on the first drive. They were pressuring McNair all game and he threw for 108 yds. I will say that the defense seemed gassed in the last quarter. I looked at the play log and the Ravens ran 64 offensive plays. Kiffin likes to keep the defensive play count more in the low 50's, high 40's. If Tampa can't control the ball on offense then you have a reason to worry.

I would like to see Tampa stick with the running game. We had a total of 13 running attempts. That will not cut it. The ypc may be low initally but that is way to early to give up on the run. Also it allows the O-line to get into the game and try and establish some timing and rhythm.

Buenning *should* be back this week, and Joseph (the RG) is out for a few weeks at least. If Buenning comes back he'll go back to his position at LG, and that will allowe Sean Mahan to go back to RG, which is where he played all 17 games last year. The Bucs moved Mahan to LG for the first game since Jeb Terry took a lot of training camp snaps at RG, as he was in competition for the job with Joseph. So to sum it up, if Buenning is back, the Bucs will have their starting OLine together for the next few weeks that started all 17 games last year. And while it wasn't great, it was certainly suitable. As for last Sunday, as everybody else said, it was just a snowball. Simms missed some open reads, threw some bad balls and was hurried most of the day. They abandoned the running game in the second half, no need to look into the Caddy situation there. Gradkowski won't start this year unless the team is out of the playoff hunt. Nor will Rattay. Neither is good enough. It's Simms or bust in 06.

Many thanks for this informative and intelligent post.
