What's your favorite pastry? (1 Viewer)

I love churros. I enjoy the wimpy Del Taco ones as much as the fancy ones filled with caramel/strawberry/cream/chocolate, and the skinny ones for dipping into bitter dark chocolate.

El Pollo Loco has surprisingly good churros for $1.19.

All types of churros.

What is your favorite pastry? Post a foodie porn pic.

a real belgian waffle. the kind you can only really get from a street cart in belgium. its a yeast dough waffle that is a little crispy due to the caramelized sugar coating and chunks of pearl sugar inside. ####### amazing.

It's this.

Winner.

Even the chocolate covered waffles in the vending machines sprinkled with sugar over there are :moneybag:

A good chocolate croissant. Not just the one you get from Starbucks, but one from a baker. Still warm, the chocolate still melted.

Now THAT'S what I'm talking about. There are a bunch of imitators that sell these topped with ice cream from a food truck, but it's probably not near as good as the originals.

A really good danish. I'll eat the cheap ones when work throws them out there or toy get at a hotel but a good, fresh baked danish with the fruit or cheese filling is hard to beat in my book.

I don't like really sweet stuff, which is most of the american stuff--- so it's asian or european for me where it's delish and light on the sugar content.

A real Danish.

Slab of butter folded into the dough, fruit baked in, cream, syrup, icing, and sometimes chocolate. The ultimate pastry.

Used to have a bakery that made a killer almond croissant. Haven't found a replacement yet that topped that.

I've always liked salty foods like chips and nuts more than sweet foods. I guess my favorite pastry would probably be a honey bun out of the vending machine. I've had those the most in my life as far as pastries. I just looked up honey bun, and it was developed in Greensboro, NC in 1954. No wonder they are always in every vending machine in town.

A good cannoli is hard to beat. A truly perfect napoleon with light as air pastry and decadent french creme is amazing as well.

Speaking of almonds. Have you guys had Danish pastries filled with almond paste? OMG, that stuff is good. I'd buy a tub of it and suck it with a straw if I could.

Thanks for posting this. I had never tried or even heard of them before, but they sounded really good and I read this a few days ago right before a trip to the grocery store. Fortunately, they carried some Belgian pearl sugar, so I was able to make them.

So, so good.

I had house guests this weekend, so made another batch for them. Everyone loved them.

First one I made: http://i.imgur.com/M4ZqIdz.jpg

Wife snapped a pic before eating it. Others looked better but disappeared faster.

Cool. I made it too for some Belgian relatives who were here for Xmas and they approved wholeheartedly. That recipe is legit. I figured out a trick to cleaning the waffle iron afterwards too. Let everything cool completely so the remaining melted sugar hardens. Then heat the waffle iron back up just enough to slightly soften the sugar again and it should all peel off in one piece.

Geezzus those pics look good. And I love toasted almond flakes as a topping on just about any pastry.
