2. If Detroit can figure out 3rd down plays - look out! The Detroit Lions are 5th in the NFL with 247.4 yards passing per game, but they are 2nd worst in the NFL with only 24 converted 3rd downs. Carolina has the fewest 3rd down conversions with 23.

3. In case you still wondered... Last week SD and DAL were tied with an NFL-leading 9 rushing TD's. This week they are still tied with 12 rushing TD's apiece.

Going further... 12 rushing TD's equals the combined efforts (rush TD's) of the following run-heavy teams, if you can believe it: NYG, SEA, MIN and STL

4. Did you know? Despite winning their last two games - The Raiders have a combined 9 offensive TD's and 12 interceptions thrown. No other team has more INTs than offensive TD's scored. :o

5. The tidbit of the week that only I probably care about - The Carolina Panthers have 5 interceptions on offense this year and the total return yards from those INTs is -5 yards. They are the only team that has allowed negative total yards off of their INT returns. In case you wondered, Dallas has allowed the most return yards off of INTs with 268 yards.

6. Trivia Question of the Week for those who know their stuff - Four teams are averaging 98+ yards rushing and 250+ yards passing per game. Can you name them?

See end of post for the answer

7. Trivia Question of the Week, for those who really think they know their stuff - Three teams are averaging at least 320 total yards per game, but are averaging under 20 points scored per game. Can you name the three teams?

See end of post for the answer

8. Did you know that... Marques Colston has more receiving yards and one less TD than Torry Holt? He also has more 20+ and 40+ yard gains than Holt.

10. Did you know? The Eagles, Chargers and Chiefs are the only teams to have teammates be #1 and #2 in receptions without either of them being a WR?

11. Jason Witten owners Rejoice! - This is a write-in stat from my apprentice Hector31 - Jason Witten in 22 quarters with Bledsoe at QB has 16 recs for 165 yards and 0 TD. Witten with Tony Romo at QB in only 6 quarters has 10 recs for 152 yards and 1 TD.

12. Just in case you wondered - There has not been a player who has gained 200 or more yards rushing or receiving in a game yet this season. A few have accomplished that feat combined in a game, but not one or the other.

13. Marc Bulger owners - Rock on! Bulger has passed for 300+ yards in 4 of his last 6 games. And one of those games was a bye week. :headbang:

14. More trivia for you!!! What are the only two teams without a 100-yard rusher yet this year? Ironically, both are playoff teams from last year. :o

Maybe this is how they're planning on getting their offense more yards.

Great stuff as always.

Colston is yet another example of why the combine is overrated for wideouts. Forget the workout wonders, show me someone who can get open and catch the ball.

Finally a reason to start Matt Jones. And I will! Good stuff, I always read it.

great work as usual.

with the IND/NE matchup this week, here's my tidbit to spice up the already gargantuan matchup:

this is from CHFF, a pats homer website:

How bad is IND's run defense this year? it's beyond worst in the NFL... It's HISTORICALLY BAD so far:

- They've allowed 167.9 rushing yards per game

- And maybe even worse for IND fans, the Colts allow 5.4 yards per rush attempt. That’s a full half-yard worse than the 31st team on the list, the Titans, and double the 2.7 yards per attempt yielded by the league’s No. 1 run defense in Baltimore.

- Wanna' know the last time a defense surrendered 5.4 yards per rush attempt? The 1961 Vikings, an expansion team from nearly a half-century ago, which surrendered 5.41 YPA!

- Right now, the Colts and their 5.4 yards allowed has been surpassed by only these juggernauts of football NFL lore:

* The 1934 Reds (6.40 YPA) folded after the season and after a 3-14-1 record in their two short years of existence.

* The 1950 Yanks (5.63 YPA) joined the NFL that year from the old All-America Football Conference, which existed from 1946-49. They folded at the end of the 1951 season.

* The 1950 Colts (5.56 YPA) were also AAFC refugees. They folded at the end of the season before rejoining the NFL in 1953 (and again finding their way onto this list).

* The 1961 Vikings (5.41 YPA) were an expansion team that year

Well done as always. Here's one you might be interested in tracking:

Four teams in NFL history have had 4 players gain more than 1,000 yds from scrimmage in a season, and in each case it was 1 RB and 3 WRs. This year the Saints are on pace to have 4 players reach that mark as well, doing so with 2 RBs and 2 WRs:

(note: 62.5 yds per game required for a 1,000 yd season)

Per game averages after 7 games:

Colston: 82.4 ypg

McAllister: 78.9 ypg

Horn: 72.4 ypg

Bush: 71.7 ypg

Needed to average over the final 9 games to reach 1,000 yds:

Colston: 47.0 ypg

McAllister: 49.8 ypg

Horn: 54.8 ypg

Bush: 55.3 ypg

that was fun. :) but how do I scroll over to find the trivia answers?

Go into the "quoted" questions and then place your cursor to the left and hold it down and scroll over to the right and you will see the answers which are written in white and do not show up unless highlighted. Clever and I really enjoy this weekly feature, great stuff as usual. :)

Funny thing is that the Saints cut a guy in preseason who possessed those same characteristics -- Mike Hass.Makes me wonder if Hass would have made the roster if they Colston wasn't there.

This thread is pure entertainment for us stat junkies...I think at the end of the season they should all be linked in one thread, possibly pinned so we can go back and look at some of this stuff when we are trying to figure out next season's hot picks.

Wheelhouse, this should be a weekly feature in the FBG premium section, no doubt about it. But I am guessing you like to throw it up in the Shark Pool for many the same reasons I do...more talk generated.
