When to have a dynasty start-up draft (1 Viewer)

My league was set to have our start-up draft in May, however we are now re-thinking that because of the labor dispute. Half the coaches want to keep it in May and half want it pushed back because of the uncertainty surrounding free agents. I'm usually of the thought that the early the draft date the better, because it gives an advantage to coaches who are putting in the most effort, but in this situation I'm not sure.

I'm interested if other leagues are in the same boat and ultimately what they have decided on.

We started today. Never thought about going later. Plan to hold the rookie draft after the real draft too.

I wish I played in that league. Instead I have people telling me that they want to hold off because (example just used) "if the Saints don't resign P. Thomas, than Chris Ivory's value goes way up" and "Plus, we should wait to see where P. Thomas signs because where he goes, changes his value."

They need to realize that situations like that will always be the risk of owning players in a dynasty - there's no reason that the draft shouldn't reflect that. It isn't like anyone will have any advantage over another owner - all are on equal footing. To me that could only make the draft that much more interesting.

We started one about 2 weeks ago. the train rolls on and everyone has the same risk...why hold?

I don't know. These are the same guys that want to have the draft the day before the season starts so they can see how every single position battle plays out. I'm starting to think a dynasty league with them was a bad idea.

I've participated in 2 dynasty start-ups already this year. I'm going on the assumption they will play football this year. If not, no big deal...I'll worry about that later.

my opinion: if you are having a single vet/rookie draft wait til after the NFL rookie draft....if you are having a vet draft and then a rook draft, do the vets now and the rooks after the NFL draft....

Sounds like a redraft league mentality to me.
