When was the last time both the Niners & Raiders were in the playoffs at the same time? (1 Viewer)

Trying to find this answer & Google is absolutely no help.

As long as I’ve lived I’d wanted a Niners/Raiders Super Bowl. Half my friends root for one of the other.

But as far back as I can recall, the stars just didn’t align.

Does anyone know when the last time both the Niners & Raiders were in the playoffs at the same time?

There it is, thanks!

that was the year the Niners upset the Giants (who’s fans were really upset about the refs)  and Shockey’s dropped TD. Man, seems like a lifetime ago.

Niners had no business being there. Much like this year. lol

Raiders were a legit contender that year,  Barrett Robbins went on a bipolar bender in TJ & lost the SB to their former coach, because Callahan didn’t change the playbook. Sapp said the defense was calling the offensive plays out from across the line.

Crazy year.

Follow up Q

Have both franchises ever won a playoff game in the same season?

1970 - both won their respective first round games and lost the Conference Championship

1981 - Raiders win WC game, lost Division game; 49ers won SB

1983 - 49ers lost NFCCG, Raiders won SB

1990 - both won Division playoff games and lost the Conference Championship

1993 - Raiders win WC game, lost Division game; 49ers won Division game but lost Conference Championship

2002 - 49ers won WC game, lost Division game; Raiders won Division game + AFCCG but lost SB

Even though no one asked - no one thought it possible - the New Jersey NFL teams have both made the playoffs in the same season ONCE.

In 2006, The Giants lost the wild card game to the Eagles. The Jets lost the wild card game to the Patriots.

1 slight correction: 2002 Raiders lost the SB to the Dungy-built, Gruden coached Bucs.

Now I remember 1990…that was the closest we had to a Bay Area SB.

Woulda been the lowest rated Super Bowl of all time, but there was definitely a buzz in the bay about it.

1970 only right? of the three years they both made conference championships, two of them the Raiders were slumming it in LA

Two of the most exciting games to watch all year happened yesterday.  Just bananas. I think the Niners actually have a decent shot against the Cowboys. We'll see on the Raiders. It could happen but don't think they have enough for the Bengals.

Also unrelated but fun historic trivia:  no one in human history has ever sent sent a text message about the Bengals winning a playoff game.

Bengals last Playoff Win: 1991

First text message sent: 1992

😳
Almost the same for the D. Thirty years, five days. Both teams have gone 0-8 since.

Not sure about Cincy but I think ours has been 7 straight WC games (and 9 consecutive WC losses overall?) Lost the rematch with Favre the last time we won a division title (1993), a week after beating them at home in Week 17.

I agree. I got up at 4 to work my farmers market,  home at halftime for the Niners thinking my bets were dead (Niners +3.5, O44.5 & a parlay of the two) watched them drive down & kick the FG before half and sat down for a 2nd half of what I thought would be pure misery.

Next thing I know it’s the end of what seemed like a 72 hour Raiders game ending in victory & today I’m absolutely exhausted!

So many orders to pack, so little motivation.

Yesterday might have been the best final weekend ever. Sure there have been weekends with more swings on who gets in / who gets left out, but the drama was amazing.

For once the refs didn’t make it about them.

there were a couple of egregious non-calls in the Raiders game. The obvious facemask arguably the worst of them. But overall a pretty well officiated game.  Pace of play wasn’t interrupted, which is my biggest pet peeve.

I actually thought that deserved horse collar more than face mask but yeah, bad miss - with zero impact since Carr completed the next pass for a FD.

what slays me is we’re seeing a huge swing in momentum and EERRRRt **record scratch** we get a sketch PI or phantom hold that completely alters the outcome.

yep - worst thing in football. Hopefully the playoff games look more like the way the Raiders/chargers was officiated.
