how late do they keep you in the coal mines in PA?
I have stuff I have to do in the early evening. By 8:30 I am ready to sit down and watch some football.I'll survive but I don't really get NBC's rationale here. There are quite a few networks carrying the convention but they are the only one broadcasting the game.
Your priorities are a little a skewed are they not Godsbrother.
:goodposting: back at ya. These conventions are nothing but pep rallys for political parties. If YOU get something out of watching them then good for you but please don't lecture me on my priorities...(edited because I quoted the wrong post)

the only live tv I watch is the ticket on sundays, well not the only but pretty close.

Just wait when this game goes into double overtime.
I realize this was in jest but I hope like heck the game does into OT. Heidi Bowl all over again...
What would NBC do then? Pull the end of the game? Switch the game to another channel, like they should have done in the first place? I so hope this happens.I'd also like to see McCain signal TD, just once.
maybe they could put the game on the giant LED screen behind the stage? everyone wins!

truth
Not everyone has DVR.
I am on the west coast and didn't realize this game was starting this early. I didn't set the DVR.Will someone go to my house and set it for me? The key is under the rug.

Mike and Mike were joking about this today. They said since McCain is a sports fan, he should hold the speech up and then have AL and John horugh it to him directly. Rich Eisen, this morning, said McCain and Palin should go caribou hunting and then come back and give the speech.

I think Eisen has the right idea, and they should take **** Cheney with them.

(Thurs. night games, Sunday night games and Monday night games)You tape it, stay away from ESPN or internet where you'd run into any updates, start watching it about 1.5 hours after kickoff, fast forward through all the commercials and little by little by the time you get to the end of the game it's basically in real time with the rest of the world. It's really the only way to go.
Negative. I can't watched a DVR'd NFL game. If it ain't live it ain't me. But I'm not complaining about the start either.

I was just making a point that you were more interested in a football game then other peoples welfare and the economy. I know Hillary is gone so you are not interested in voting.

I don't understand why some West Coasters complain about early starts, I loved it. Games were over and you then had time to chill, go out, do whatever.
Because on Saturday night on the West Coast we party 'till the break of dawn. Sometimes I won't even sleep before Sunday's morning games. I'll just get a couple hr nap in from around halftime of the afternoon games until the beginning of the NBC game.

If you want to watch the RNC, plenty of networks cover that. Shame on NBC although they have the least amount of junk on the screen when the RNC is running so I have been tuning in during the 10:00 hour...the cable networks just have too much crap on the screen to focus ont he candidates IMO.
That is why you watch C-SPAN...no commercials...no talking heads.

This is why I love DirecTV...go online...and schedule the DVR to record the game...it is truly amazing how we ever lived without this feature.

I'm not so sure they are. I think I might learn a little more lsitening to the NFL commentators than I would any of the pompous political pundits and GOP windbags. 2 cents.

 Only way I'm tuning into the convention is if the guy's VP candidate Senator Funbags (or is she a Governor?) is on camera in a cheerleader outfit doing cartwheels.

And me, to an extent.Listening to people not yet in power jabber about what they "promise" to do in a one sided discussion is meaningless to me. If it was a debate or something, then maybe.

Thanks, KellysHeroes, for pointing this out. I would have assumed it was an 8 or 9 o'clock start and missed kickoff!

Shes' hot for her age.. thats for sure.

Actually, the real reason the game was moved is b/c it's the law. Network television (NBC, etc) has to give both political candidates the same amount of airtime during conventions. Therefore, seeing as NBC gave a certain amount of airtime to Barack at the Democratic Convention last week, they can't interrupt McCain at the Republican Convention this week. That's why they moved the game up, so it will be over by the time McCain goes on tonight
If that true.. then move the Fing convention...Like I said before, this wasn't the 1st yr NFL had thier Kick-off on thursday night.

I do this ALL the time. Did it for the Cardinals in the WS in 2006. MNF. SNF. Gonna do a combo here. Gonna go to a bar and watch the first half or so, go home and watch the rest with this method....

Did you hear that some Baseball game had to be resch. or moved to another stadium.
Yes, the Orioles have to play a doubleheader Saturday because the Ravens have a home game Sunday. Obviously the MLB schedule was out before the NFL's, so the NFL caused the conflict there.

I love it. Now I don't have to stay up until midnight watching the game.
:goodposting: When I lived out in LA for a few months, I loved watching football. Monday night games were over around 9-9:30 and Sunday games were over at 4. It was weird, felt like you had a whole lot of time afterwards and a whole other day on Sundays, which I never had living on the East Coast my whole life. Also, being able to roll out of bed on Sunday morning and not have to wait a few hours for the games to start was awesome. Go to an early lunch/late breakfast and you are watching games.I don't understand why some West Coasters complain about early starts, I loved it. Games were over and you then had time to chill, go out, do whatever.
Barneys Beanery on SM BLVD on sundays for bloodys and breakfast and NFL was the bomb. I miss that. Now in San Diego, roll down to PB to your local team's bar. Plum Crazy for Bloodys and the Birds is fantastic. West coast rules for watching football, although the 4pm start-time today blows due to our stupid govt.
Loved Barney's. Awesome place, although I was a dirt poor grad student at the time. Do you recall a place, I think it was near Santa Monica, third street? I can't remember the name or if that is the place, but it was packed for football games. I think they even shuffled everyone out after the first Sunday's games. I had never been to a place before or since where you had to wait outside to get in a place to watch games. It was pretty sweet though, especially the waitresses.I do miss LA, it was a fun, fun town with lots of fine looking women.

I'm pretty sure NBC could show the speech on tape delay after the game and they would be fine under the law. Just show it after whatever crappy late show they put on after the local news.

Ummm, where is the negative here? Either you go to sleep at a relatively normal hour and roll out of bed refreshed and have no wait for the games to come on or you party all night and watch the games with a buzz and at 4pm crawl into bed and wake up thoroughly refreshed Monday morning. Sounds perfect to me either way.Reminds me of walking out of casinos in Vegas when the sun is shining the next morning. How awesome would it be to go find brunch after a wild night in Vegas only to see NFL football while chowing down with your last twenty after blowing all your winnings on strippers? Yeah, you know what, you are right, damn West Coast NFL watching. :goodposting:

WHAT? I've got less than 5 hours to figure this out!Did someone say Hillary was out of the race? Dang, yeah, I'm not voting now.

Thanks, Dad. I will no longer watch trivial things like football and will only watch political shows from here on out. By the way what are YOU doing here? Seems to me there are more important things going in the world that you should be focusing on. You can start with Metro Detroit...

I'm in Alaska which is four hours behind. On the weekends, it's great; the Sunday night game is over by 7:00. On weekdays, we get hosed. Part of the trade-off, I suppose.

I work downtown so I am aware of what is going on in metro Detroit. All I was trying to convey to you was A well rounded person is more than give me another donut. Have fun watching the game.
