Where does Antonio Gates fit after top wideouts are gone (1 Viewer)

Where does San Diego Charger TE Antonio Gates ranked this year in regards to top WRS?

I am having doubts about Philip Rivers and for some reason in the last few seasons the Chargers defense (especially their secondary) could never seem to get the same effort and big plays as their offense with drew brees at QB gave them.

With that said--- would you rather have a Top 5-ish WR like CJ, Harrison, Holt, etc; AND another established WR like Chambers, Hines Ward, Reggie Wayne et al.

OR

A top WR (same names as above) and TE Antonio Gates (passing on Ward, Wayne, etc) and hope you can get a not so established or "question mark" WR like roy williams, andre johnson, joe horn, etc. to outplay his early mid-round draft position?

so after the top RBs are long gone and depending on league size (8, 10, 12 teams) would you rather have

RB, possibly another

Top 3-8 WR

Top 12-15 WR

TE later on (Heap. Cooley, even LJ smith)

RB, possibly another

Top 3-8 WR

Top TE--Seems to be Gates only (if you think he will hit near 150 points)

Top 20-25 WR like Horn, T Glenn, Galloway

Also, I know a TE's value increases relative to how many WRs you start in a league, but how much does the number of WRs in your league affect this decision? 3 wrs vs. 2 wrs, for example? Since i am concentrating this post on Gates i'm not necessarily worrying about RBs and Back up RBs in the equation. thanks for any input. :)

John
