Where Would You Live? (1 Viewer)

hey gb, is awd a must for your neck of the woods? I'd obviously prefer a normal vehicle (fwd/rwd) to the awd/4x4's that I've been looking at recently.
where, specifically?  I have AWD on my cars, but I wouldn't say "a must" unless you're in a more rural setting.

Love the idea of somebody with a whole world of hypothetical choices picking St. Louis. :lmao:
First, St. Louis is a fantastic place to live, particularly to raise a family. Also, this is where my entire extended family and my wife's extended family live. I would never live somewhere else.

In the US I don't really want to live anywhere else (grew up and live in the NYC area), but there are a number of international places I would like to live, particularly in Europe.  I don't see any opportunities to move to Europe and have a good job there, but that would be a dream come true.

Yep.  Plus awesome stuff to do. For me, I can't imagine a day better than playing a morning round at Torrey Pines North, Grabbing pizza and beer at Pizza Port for lunch, chilling on the beach, then hitting up a game at Petco and dinner afterwards in gaslamp.
Don't forget Friday ponies and concerts  at Del Mar

going to italy....., prolly our place in Pozzuolo till we find that independent with some olive and fruit trees with a view of Lake Trasimeno. many reasons why....

I live where I want to live now. I've traveled all over the US and moved to Florida on a whim, with zero connections to the area. 25 years later and I have no reason to leave. I wouldn't mind traveling a bit more though to other parts of the world.

I love being in a university town.  With the activities and friends I have here, I don't see anything better that would make me want to leave.

Rock Chalk Jayhawk.

1. Maui - love the beach/ocean; love the pace if "island life"; i could eat sushi every day

2. Cambria (CA) - a small(ish) beach community once described by a local as "a drinking town with a tourist problem"; 20 minutes a way from wine (SLO/Paso), not too far from Monterey & Carmel; weather is on the cool side (wife = happy)
Based on this I started a cursory look into Cambria as I think I can pull off working from home and living virtually anywhere in the U.S. Thing is I'm on a lake now and I can't afford water in Cambria. Schools seem just ok there. I don't know. From another thread I've also considered Sanibel, Captiva and Seaside, FL.

MN is so awesome for almost the whole time from spring through fall, much like those raving about Michigan in summer. Hard to downgrade from that due to cost of living/waterfront adjustment.

Which lake here?

The best kind.  Good fishing?  Our bay is about 300 acres and I wish there was no entrance.  But more for keeping the surfing to ourselves.
Decent fishing. Not much for walleyes though which sucks. Big enough to tube, ski, swim and watch/listen to wildlife. Nothing beats listening to the loons at night.

What if you had the power to transport your families to someplace else

If your answer is still St. Louis, there is something wrong with you.
What part of "my entire extended family is here and I would like to be around them for the rest of my life" don't you get? Sorry that you don't have the wonderful extended fam that I have. That may be why you are such a jackass. One more thing St. Louis has going for it. It has one less ####### living here because you obviously live elsewhere and wherever that is has another mark in the negative column.

St. Louis Pros:  Slingers, the Hill, trashed wings

St. Louis Cons: Best fans in baseball, provel, Missouri and Illinois

What part of "use your imagination" don't you understand?

Sorry the idea of being unbounded by constraints of what is truly possible makes you so uncomfortable that you need to lash out.

Seattle, San Francisco, or Austin, TX

Although even if given a home the high cost of living would make it difficult to enjoy myself in any of those cities. If I was able to stay where I am but move into a nicer place, I think that would be best for me.

You are the guy that started with throwing out the insults. Sorry if you don't like them returned. Don't like it, then don't take a shot because nobody is going to have any sympathy for that hypocrisy

And I did use my imagination. But in the end, I realized my life is pretty damn good. Better than good. Better than I deserve. I couldn't think of another place I could live that would improve my life. Sure, there are literally hundreds of places I want to go see and visit. Seeing Europe is the #1 item on my bucket list. But I don't want to live there and be apart from my family.

Sorry if having a deep love for my extended family and friends makes you so uncomfortable that you need to lash out. Makes me really wonder about your family life. Sorry for that.

I guess you are still incapable of imagining that your extended family lives somewhere else with you.

That was the point I was making in each post. Sorry that it went over your head. I thought it was incredibly obvious.

It's also too bad that a little banter and ribbing puts you on tilt.

My extended family includes close to 100 people. Our Memorial Day Pig Roast brings 80 people to my house every year. I realize that the OP said, money is no object, but that's pretty unrealistic to get everyone to move with me and get new jobs.

And again, I'm sorry that I live a life that even when made an offer to go wherever I want, my answer is to stay put because my perfect place has nothing to do with weather or scenery. It has to do with the people in my life. While I want to see old world Europe more than just about anything, it doesn't mean I want to move myself and my entire extended family to Hallstatt Austria or Lake Bled Slovenia or Bordeaux France or Napa or northern Michigan for the summer and the gulf coast for the winter or whatever. You can't fathom that and you mock me for it. I feel sorry for someone that can't grasp that, because it seems to me the world would be a better place if more people wanted to stay put to be with loved ones than moving away from the people they love because the weather is a few degrees better or they can play golf more throughout the year.

I love foodie cities too much so I'd stay in Los Angeles and get a sweet home in Beverly Hills.
Also, Bora Bora, if they can hook up a bungalow with great wifi.
Yeah if we get winter summer locations, I'll take a big house near the water in Palos Verdes and a little beach shack on the water somewhere in French Polynesia.
