Which DB would you rather have? (1 Viewer)

Tackle-heavy league -

Kerry Rhodes or Shaun Williams. My initial pick was Rhodes, but I think he and E. Coleman switch back and forth from SS to FS. Shaun Williams had a nice game for Carolina last week and is entrenched as the SS there. With D. Morgan out for possibly an extended time, Williams may have some potential.

Who would you rather have if you had to pick only one? Like I said, tackle-heavy league with bonus points for picks.

You make some solid points and I am thinking hard about picking up S. Williams in one of my leagues where he is a FA. I would consider staring Williams in a tackle heavy league, but it would be very hard to play Williams over Rhodes. Rhodes is a ball hawker and he gets picks. Rhodes should end up with plenty of tackles this year.

If it is any help, I picked up Shaun Williams today despite already having Boulware, Sanders and Kiel on my roster.

I snagged him for the same reason you mention. He is a tackle machine and lest we forget he was becoming a monster in NYG prior to an injury that opened the door for Gibril Wilson. I love his situation in Carolina and see him as a consistent 5-7 UT per game guy.

I had Rhodes last year and he was maddening. Sure he had a few great games, but then he would go dormant for a few weeks followed by another explosion. I think Williams will provide consistency, where Rhodes could provide more explosive games.

Maddening? In FBG scoring, which is awful conservative, Rhodes had only three games less than 5 points. If you think a safety that gets 86 solo and 106 total tackles and seven passes defended is maddening, then, unless your scoring system is really weighted toward the big play, I'd think that nearly every DB you'll ever start will drive you batty.I agree with your assessment of Williams. He'll be good and should be better with Morgan out.

Maddening. Why? because I picked him up as a free agent after week 4 last year (a 7 UT effort) and the first week he registered 2 tackles. Our system award 1 pt per UT, 2 per INT or Safety, 6 per td. Nothing for FF, PD or Assists. WK TM OPP TKL AST SACK FF FR INT PD FPT 5 NYJ TB 2 1 0 0 0 0 0 2.5 6 NYJ BUF 5 1 0 0 0 0 1 6.5 7 NYJ ATL 4 0 0 1 0 0 0 6 9 NYJ SD 7 1 0 0 0 0 0 7.5 10 NYJ CAR 2 1 0 0 0 0 1 3.5 11 NYJ DEN 8 2 1 0 0 0 0 12 12 NYJ NO 6 1 0 0 0 0 0 6.5 13 NYJ NE 5 5 0 0 0 0 0 7.5 14 NYJ OAK 2 0 0 0 0 0 1 3 Our season ends in Week 13, with playoffs beginning in Week 14, where Rhodes laid a 2 point egg. So yes, I would say he was maddening over the period I had him.

Having seen Shaun Williams for many years I can tell you that Kery Rhodes is the better pick here. Williams struggles to stay healthy and is a bit of a liability in coverage. He's a solid run support safety but doesn't provide much after that. With Dan Morgan out Williams is in a position to collect tackles but considering he's been unable to stay healthy in recent seasons I can't help but feel you're living on borrowed time with the guy.

Kerry Rhodes would be my pick on this regardless of Dynasty or redraft format.
