Weapon of Mass Instruction

Watch my feet!
Titans' homer here as you all know. Last year the AFC South had the highest winning percentage, as a division, in NFL history. Frankly, as I see it, I don't know why I would expect the division to have the best record again -- not sure I really see anyone even close.

On the other hand, I think that the NFC South will be the worst.

Obviously AFC South and NFC East are going to run away with this. I might go out on a limb and say the AFC East could post a nice record. They are playing last year's two worst divisions, AFC West and NFC West. The Pats should obviously have a nice record, the Bills and/or Jets could easily surprise, and a team like Miami posting a 6 or 7 win season wouldn't be unprecedented.

I don't see the NFC South as the worst at all. They weren't the worst last year and that was with two teams having franchise QBs disappearing and no worthy backup in place. The Saints have made improvements and shouldn't start 0-4 again and the Bucs should still be over .500.

I voted for the AFC South. Seems to me all four teams are legitimate playoff contenders barring massive injury. The NFC East is far and away the most competitive NFC division, but that's not what was asked in the question. I would say, top to bottom, the AFC South teams would win more games head to head against other divisional opponents than anyone else in the league, hands down.

I think the AFC South has peeked. I don't think Indy is as good as they have been the past few years. Their offensive and defensive line was manhandled by SD in the playoffs last year, Marvin is older and Peyton is a little dinged. Still a good team, I just don't think they're as good as they have been the past few years.

Jax has peaked. They aren't going to be any better than last year and they didn't really get hit with the injury bug that everyone gets hit with once in awhile.

Tennessee won't make the playoffs this year. After this year, they're really going to have to look at what direction they want to go in.

Houston.....not terrible but I think it's a leap to say they're a playoff contender.

Top to bottom, still a very good division.....I don't see how you can argue they're not. However, I just don't think at the end of this season, people will look back on this season and say how much stronger they were than some of the other top divisions.

In the NFC, the East is tough. You have the Giants and Cowboys who can beat anyone in the NFC South. Sure, it's not a gauranteed win but the Giants won the SB.

So, if you want to square off Indy vs. Giants

Dallas vs. Jax

Philly vs. Tennessee

Washington vs. Houston

I see the NFC East winning at least 2 of those games if not 3.

I think Dallas, Philly and Washington are all improved from last year. I am not saying the Giants are improved because of the loss of Strahan but they had some young players who helped them win the SB who will only blossom even more this year.

My vote is for the NFC East

All the teams in the NFC East have a shot at making the playoffs and if spread over other divisions, they may all make it, only 2 of those teams making it is what is best about the NFC East being the strongest.

I think you have the teams matched up wrong (although it is opinion). I know the Giants won the SB but Dallas had the better record and I think most people would agree they were the best team in the division. I think it isIndy vs. DallasJax vs. GiantsPhilly vs. TennHouston vs. WashI think Indy wins at least 3/5 vs Dallas. Jags win 3/5 vs Giants. I'll give Philly 3/5 vs Tenn. Houston vs Wash I'll go 50/50.I vote AFC South.

I'm not going to get into the Indy/Dallas debate and who would win 3 out of 5 teams because we simply can't prove it. I do disagree about the Dallas/Giants thing.......although I may believe in the bottom of my heart that the Cowboys were the better team last year, it's meaningless. The Giants won the SB and the right to claim being the champ of the entire league. Not just of the division, but the entire league. So out of respect to them, they'd get the nod. As a Dallas fan, I certainly appreciate you thinking they're better than last year's SB winner!@

didn't all the AFC South & NFC East teams finish .500 or better?...

how rare is it to happen even once in a season?

the teams that got both divisions for extra-divisional opponents (AFC North?) got shafted...

fantasy index said that some of the teams in the division have an unprecedentedly difficult schedule (& that the pats have a historically easy one, maybe the easiest on record)...

This is more or less in line with my thinking. Those two divisions would be closely matched in a round robin though. It would be interesting.

The question is poorly worded. I mean, first you ask which division is the best, but then ask which divison will have the best record. These are clearly two very different questions!!!!

The AFC south and the NFC East are clearly the best two divisions in football, but the AFC East could actually win the most games.

Forced to bet, I'd put the money on the NFC East as I figure the last place team to still win 7 or 8 games.

Speaking in defense of the NFC South, I think the NFC West could be the worst division in football this year. If things go right for the teams in the South they could be a pretty competitive division, including two or three dark horse Super Bowl winners (we're talking pretty dark here though). I don't see that from the NFC West at all.

On the other hand, I think that the NFC South will be the worst.
Why?
1. It is my opinion.2. 3 out of 4 have big ? at QB3. RB ? at all 44. Why would we think the division is improved over last year?
1 is not a reason2 is a valid point(but the same could probably be said about the AFC East and the NFC North)3 I don't know what you're talking about... I think CAR and ATL have strong RB situations4 is not a reason

Gotta go NFC East.

All of the defenses are good, and there's generally far more stability in the offensive backfields than in the AFC South.

Better QBs, better RBs, better WR corps, including TEs.

The NFC East is a little more talent heavy.

I wouldn't sweat a round-robin between the two divisions at all.
