From JAA's thread... where he asked if you could choose between having 2 top10 RBs or 4 guys in the 15/25 range, entering the season - which one would you choose... Since many posts (correctly) pointed out that more information was needed, I looked at FBG staff RBs rankings (as of today) for a redraft...

Let's assume the following:

12 teams Redraft league;

You start 2 RBs - and you can have 4 on your squad;

Scoring is based on FBG format - i.e. no ppr;

Depending on your RBs ADP - you are allowed to pick the "corresponding" other positions (i.e. if you chosed the LJ team - obviously you had to pick him in the 1st round - hence, no Steve Smith or Peyton Manning on your team - if they are 1st rounder per their ADP - I didn't check)

As of today, which team would you want entering the '06 season?

I have compose 6 teams - the first 3 are made of RB1, RB1, RB3, RB4 (making sure the 2 RB1 are not at the top)... and the last three are made of RB2, RB2, RB2, RB2...

That way, we'll have a better understanding of the members answers to JAA's question...

For the record, the FBG staff RBs ranking:

Code:
1;Larry Johnson; KC2;LaDainian Tomlinson; SD3;Shaun Alexander; SEA4;Clinton Portis; WAS5;Tiki Barber; NYG6;Steven Jackson; STL7;LaMont Jordan; OAK8;Ronnie Brown; MIA9;Edgerrin James; ARI10;Rudi Johnson; CIN11;Cadillac Williams; TB12;Brian Westbrook; PHI13;Domanick Davis; HOU14;Willis McGahee; BUF15;Kevin Jones; DET16;Willie Parker; PIT17;Reuben Droughns; CLE18;Julius Jones; DAL19;Jamal Lewis; BAL20;Warrick Dunn; ATL21;Chester Taylor; MIN22;Reggie Bush; NO23;Thomas Jones; CHI24;Tatum Bell; DEN25;Deuce McAllister; NO26;DeShaun Foster; CAR27;Corey Dillon; NE28;Fred Taylor; JAX29;Joseph Addai; IND30;Curtis Martin; NYJ31;Ahman Green; GB32;Ron Dayne; DEN33;Cedric Benson; CHI34;Frank Gore; SF35;LenDale White; TEN36;DeAngelo Williams; CAR37;Chris Brown; TEN38;Dominic Rhodes; IND39;Laurence Maroney; NE40;Samkon Gado; GB41;Marion Barber III; DAL42;Kevan Barlow; SF43;Chris Perry; CIN44;Greg Jones; JAX45;Mike Anderson; BAL46;T.J. Duckett; ATL47;Mewelde Moore; MIN48;Duce Staley; PIT

I voted for:

WMcGahee - RDroughns - WDunn - TJones

McGahee has top 10 potential, Jones can put up good #s assuming he's the starter. I like Droughns and Dunn because they will be consistent and give me decent points every week.

Of course this all depends on starting reqs. If I only need to start 2, I would take the Johnson / Westbrook combo.

If it's Alexander AND James, along with two young RBs that could be starters this season, then this isn't even close. You'd have to go with that group. And so far, it seems others agree with me, if you look at the results so far...

Indeed - it seems that Edge RB9 ranking from the staff - along with Benson and Maroney's value (probably since more and more are playing [DYNASTY] leagues) are pushing the results toward this team...I wonder if I had plugged Rudi (RB10) instead of Edge (RB9) on that team - if the results would be that polarized... I'm guessing Edge's value, even in 'Zona is what's on members mind...

Since it is a start 2 RB league, I want the HIGHEST SCORING FF player on my team along with a VERY CONSISTENT #2 RB. That is why I chose the LJ and BW option. BW seems to find a way to get 140 combined yards minimum each week with 1-2 TD's ocassionally. LJ is just a beast and I am fortunate to be able to keep him this and next year. :thumbup:

where's the LT option?
As it stands I agree with the Alexander-Edge-Benson-Maroney pick.I would also like to see an LT version.

LT-Rudi-Parker-Dillon maybe?
No, this would make it RB1, RB1, RB2, RB4. I'd vote for it though.
I went with this due to LT being one spot ahead of Alexander and then to balance it off Edge is one spot above Rudi. Hoever Parker is way to high over Benson (I personally disagree), so that is where I blew it. How about Lendale White and Gado in place of Parker Dillon. Both are bellow Benson and Maroney respectively. And I'd take LT-Rudi-L. White-Gado over Alexander-Edge-Benson-Maroney.

was a touch choice between the first and the third choices, but i would take the 3rd (with Alexander and James)

cuz those are 2 top RBs and then benson is a good young RB with potential

Thanks for all the input Sharks!...

I hadn't made a LT option in the first place since I wanted to make 3 (RB1/RB1) teams and 3 (4xRB2) teams - in order to have the same number of choices between the two...

Probably that Edge's team (due to Edge previous performances and the "low" redraft ranking from the staff this year) made that team more valuable than others...

But the original underlying question was (from JAA's thread)... would you want to start the year with 2 Top10 RB (from the projections/rankings) or with 4 RB2 guys?...

And the results from the poll make it clear, along with the LT option requests... Sharks prefer studs RBs - to ride them all year long - rather than good overall depth to exploit matchups week-in week-out...(I think we all knew that in the first place)

The only point that remains unclear is - would Sharks still want a 2xRB1 team over a 4xRB2 team if none of the 2 RB1 guys were part of the "big3" (LJ, SA, LT)?... since there was only one "Steven Jackson - Tiki Barber" or "Lamont Jordan - Ronnie Brown" type team in the poll - and it didn't get many votes...

I don't think the top three will repeat, although it would be a brave decision to pass up the chance of taking one. I think Portis is going to climb into that bracket and will mirror Alexander's career path. The extra weapon and new OC in Washington make me think he will get a lot more room to run and he is just about to enter his prime years. So If Portis and Rudi were on the list, I would strongly consider making them my choice.

Good input Musesboy (as usual)... I strongly agree on your Portis comment - I can only say I'm a glad owner in my big money [DYNASTY] league - can't say he has wrong numbers to start a career! :P
