Which would you rather keep -- projected top 10 RB or top 10 WR? (1 Viewer)

In my standard PPR league I have a chance to save one player from last year, provided that player was taken in the 6th round or later. All it costs me is this year's 6th-round pick.

One is a projected top 10 RB, according to the latest FBG projections. Think in the latter half of the top ten. The other is a projected top 10 receiver, with a ceiling in the top five.

My question: If you were in a similar situation, which would you prefer to keep?

I'm leaning toward the WR, just because it's a PPR league and I like his potential. But there's that old-school side of me that wonders if I won't wind up regretting it if the RB hits his projections.

I'm picking fourth in this year's draft, so I'm thinking I'm a lock to get Megatron in the first round if I want to go that way.

Thoughts?

RB. It is always easy to find WRS that produce. Also, with #4 pick you are not picking Megatron over Rodgers, Brees, or McCoy, are you?

You know he is on Madden this year, right?

Ugh. I know. And that was just one direction I was leaning toward. I'm thinking I could be looking at Rodgers or McCoy, too. I've got options. Thanks for your input.

I would usually say RB simply because that player has more value in the draft--if he's a projected top 10 RB, he's likely a 1st or 2nd round pick. If he's a projected top 10 WR and isn't Calvin, he could be a mid-2nd rounder all the way out to a 4th-rounder. However, if you start 3WR, I might lean towards the receiver since you have more slots to fill and it'd be nice to have a head start on it. Plenty of factors involved in this decision.

By the way, without looking at the projections, I'm guessing the players in question are DeMarco Murray and AJ Green.

You're close, Tigers. I didn't want to include the names because I didn't want to turn this into an AC forum question.

Yeah, that was just a fun little addition. I think the philosophical question of the post is a good one--I think we tend to have different value considerations of players when we know who they are vs. who they are in the abstract. A top 10 WR may be considered more "reliable" than a top 10 RB when one steps back and thinks about all the "injury risks" and short-on-experience players in the top 10 of backs, like Murray, McFadden, etc. I think we also tend to ascribe different value sets to players we already own in a keeper league vs. players we'll be drafting fresh.

Exactly. I'm leaning one way. I just wanted to be sure I wasn't going too far outside the box with my thinking. In my league, RBs still go pretty early even though we're a PPR league. Sometimes that means you have to grab your RBs while you can, but I've also had some success bucking that trend and loading up on stud WRs. It all depends on where I'm drafting. This year, it really hinges on what falls to me at 4. The only problem is we have to announce our keepers before the draft starts, which could have an effect on my strategy. Fortunately, I've still got plenty of time to obsess over it. :)
