Whitner to share time? (1 Viewer)

Mark Gaughan, of the Buffalo News, reports Buffalo Bills defensive linemen Kyle Williams and Tim Anderson are expected to split time at defensive tackle in the Bills season opener Sunday, Sept. 10. "With Kyle and Tim it's not really significant to us," said Bills coach #### Jauron. "We'll just keep saying the same thing. They're going to probably split." Also expected to split time are safeties Donte Whitner and Coy Wire.

At strong safety, rookie first-round pick Donte Whitner is the No. 1 player, but he could share time early on with veteran reserve Coy Wire.

"We're really not ready to say that Coy is the starter, but we like Coy," said Jauron. "He has the most experience of those guys and we're trying to bring Donte along. Whoever starts, Donte is going to play. If he doesn't start he's going to play a great deal in the game. Coy is coming back from an injury so whoever is out there is going to need a blow at some time or another."

I was starting him this week ...I guess not now

Pick one Dawan Landry, Bernard Pollard Daniel Manning or Shaun williams in his place?

I guess Landry

Thanks for the note on Whitner -- hadn't heard that yet.I might lean toward Williams over Landry until we see how much 4-4-3 the Ravens employ (which would probably drop Landry's value a fair amount).

I just saw the news on MFL, and replaced Whitner in my lineup with Boulware for the same reason.

I agree with Jene - start Williams.

I avoid starting rookies the first week or two anyway, as I've done this week with Mario Williams and Whitner. Their early performance and even their status as starters are just too uncertain. Obviously, if your cupboard is otherwise bare, then you've got to go with them but it's usually not a good thing to rely upon a rookie early in the year.

So much for sitting your rook's. Whitner had some nice stats. That defense can't stop the run though, so he figures to see a lot of tackles. I was right with Williams though. He held his own according to people watching, but I don't think he's in a situation just yet where we can expect much from him stat-wise.
