Who are your 2 favorite NFL pro football teams and why ? (1 Viewer)

1. The Raiders.2. Then my FF teams (although this slips ahead of 1. quickly when they are mathematically out of it.)3. Then pretty much any underdog in any game as long as it doesn't negatively impact 1 and 2 above.
EXACTLY what I was gonna say.

This if football, how can you have two teams!?!?!?
Sure you can, it's just a matter of degree. Remember I said that I like the Colts #1 and Chiefs a distant #2. Now here's the scenario:It's the last game of the season. The Colts are terrible and have no playoff hopes, losing the game will improve them to the #1 pick in next years draft. They are playing the Chiefs in the last game of the season. The Chiefs on the other hand, are on the bubble. They NEED the win to secure a playoff spot. EVERYTHING is on the line!I'm rooting for the Colts without a second thought.
That's the example I always use to describe my fandom. The Lions are #1 and the Colts #2, but the Colts are a hell of a lot closer to #32 than to #1. There's no conceivable scenario in which I root against the Lions. I tried the rooting for a better draft pick thing when I was a kid, but I soon realized that there's no hope for the future anyway. Lions fans get 3-5 wins per year, we might as well enjoy all of them.

1. Washington Redskins

2. Baltimore Ravens

Grew up outside of DC but have lived in Baltimore since 97. NFC and AFC teams. Father-in-law has season tickets to the Ravens and I go to a few games a year. Tough to follow a team when you get no coverage of them while only living 45 minutes away from the stadium.

One thing I have noticed... Ravens fans hate Redskins fans, but Redskins fans could not care less about Ravens fans.
I'm not so sure it's Raven fans hating Redskin fans as much as it is Ravens fans hating getting maroon and gold poured down our gullett for 18 yrs while the Colts were off to Indy...THAT sucked!my list:

1.Ravens...shocker, I know...but the home town squad HAS to be it, don't they?

which leads to...

2.Giants...grew up in New York, before I moved here w/my family when I was 14...I had already been a huge football fan of what was then the local team and that devotion continued even after we moved

the Super Bowl year was great because my 2 favorites duked it out thru their respective confrence championships, then my #1 squad won the big one!

so YES, you can have 2 favorites when relocation has caused a new team to become "the one" as you continue to root for your old squad

oh, and AI...go ahead and order up the Washington Post for home delivery---I won't tell anyone! ;-)

To agree with an earlier post: I will always root for the team playing against the Raiders. (unless of course a Raider win helps the Broncos, but it's hard to root for them even then)
Sorry, I can't even do that. I've been a Broncos fan since Superbowl XII. As a kid, I used my great football knowledge to decide that I preferred the Broncos over the Cowboys. I think it had something to do with Orange Crush being my favorite drink and the orange and blue uni's looking better than the silver and blue IMO. The fact that I lived in Colorado at the time didn't really factor in at all. LOL After that game, two things have stuck with me since then, my love for the Broncos and my hatred for the Cowboys. Of course, as I actually did learn more about football, my hatred for the Raiders grew to surpass my hatred for the Cowboys, but just barely. I could never root for the Raiders under any circumstance. The closest I could possibly get is if their playoff chances are long gone and their winning (against anybody but the Broncos) hurts their draft positioning. I could never root for them, but if something like this happens, I'm not as upset about their win. After the Broncos, I tend to follow other teams from time to time, usually because of certain players, coaches, or stories. If I tried to name a 2nd favorite team, it would likely vary from year to year.

1. Denver - as a little kid, loved the look of the jersey, not the orange one, but the rare time they wore the white one, as I watched, it was all Elway.

2. New Orleans - loved watching the "Cha Ching" Pat Swilling days, and then enjoyed the first few years of Brooks to Horn. Deuce was one of my favorites coming out of college as well. Horn and Deuce are 2 guys I continue to like watching. I'm one of the few as a Saints fan that is not enamoured with Reggie Bush.

Just to add to this, the 2nd favorite team is getting harder and harder year after year. I've found myself liking teams that I thought I'd never cheer for because of Fantasy Football. I didn't think I could ever cheer for Dallas. Now with Romo, Witten, Glenn, and R.Williams in various leagues, I cheer for them a lot......go figure.

1. Pittsburgh Steelers - grew up and still live in Western PA. The Steelers have just always been the team I've rooted for ever since I was a kid.2. Whoever is playing the Browns
Exactly- Green BayWhoever is playing the Vikings.

1 - The Vikings: I live here. I have to root for them. And anyway, they have some great history. And now with AP, finally an exciting player to watch again.

2 - The Broncos: Growing up in Minnesota, the afternoon game was almost ALWAYS Denver vs. someone. That led me to grow up as a big John Elway fan. He's still probably my favorite NFL player ever.

How about #1 - Chargers

Most Hated #1 - Raiders

Started watching football in the late 70s/early 80s. Grew up in the deep south, but couldn't stand Falcons. air Coryell rocked. Dan Fouts/Jefferson/Winslow/Joiner = fan for life (even through the BJ Tolliver era......)

1. Bears: Born and Raised/ (Walter Payton) the epitome of a football player.

2. Assassins: past FFL league champion, future 2007-2008 league champion.

So if the Broncos finished the season 10-6 and needed the Raiders to beat the Cheifs or Chargers (take your pick) to make the playoffs, you wouldn't be rooting for the Raiders??I'm just saying that it would have to be something like that for me to ever root for them. I'd never root for them for something trivial like a better draft pick, but a playoff spot is different.

Raiders is the one and only.

But I have fond memories of watching some of the AFC Central battles back in the day, Glanville's Oilers, and Wyche's Bengals, etc. That was seriously some of the most wacky, out of control football I can remember seeing. I used to always root for the Bengals in those matchups, and they had a fun team to watch. The no-huddle, James Brooks, Boomer Esiason, Ickey Woods, David Fulcher, bunch of players I liked.

I drafted Palmer in my initial Zealots league, and love Chad Johnson, so if it doesn't affect my Raiders, I find myself following the Bengals, and rooting for them.

Raiders are #1 :excited:

When the Raiders aren't playing I usually watch the Redskins. It's the only team outside the Raiders that I root for. Of course they're from the NFC, and they're also my wife's favorite team.

#1 - Jacksonville Jaguars: Because I grew up in J-ville and was pretty happy when they got a team back in 1995. They were the model on how to build a franchise under Tom Coughlin going to the playoffs in just their 2nd season. They knew that to build a strong team you start up front in the trenches on O-line (see Tony Boselli) and a solid defense.

That ridiculous Playoff tear they went on in 1996 when they traveled to Buffalo and beat them and then they went on to Denver and beat them...only to lose to the Pats in the AFC championship game. I was truly proud that year...still am.

#2A - Buffalo Bills - One of my favorite teams growing up because of Jim Kelly, Thurman Thomas, Andre Reed, Cornelius Bennett, Bruce Smith, Steve Tasker. Incredible Super Bowl APPEARANCE record with 4 consecutive. Thurman Thomas was one of my favorite players besides Walter Payton.

#2B - Cleveland Browns - My childhood favorite. I remember watching the Browns games with my grandfather. I liked Brian Sipe, Mike Pruitt, Ozzie Newsome, and "Iron Man" Clay Matthews. One of the most prolific offenses in the late 70's early 80's.

#1. Chicago Bears: Simply put they are one of the oldest and best franchises in the league. Great history, great city, great fan base, and always play the game the way it should be played—with hardhitting defense and a strong run game. I was born a Bears fan and I will die one, whether they win the next 20 superbowls or never win another game. No other team in the league has that kind of loyalty, and its generally true for most true fans.

#2. Chicago Bears: When the Bears are your team there are no other teams.

1. Dallas Cowboys - fan since birth

2. Whichever team is beating the Eagles, Redskins, and Giants that particular week

1.) The Bears- Hometown team since I was a lad.

2.) The Raiders- something about the silver and black and football. I think it started back in the 80s with the Plunkett era.....

1 - Eagles.

Beyond that, I don't really have any other teams I really like. I like rooting for the Jags and Bolts on occasion, but aside from the Eagles I really just root for certain players. Edge, Harrison, Tomlinson, and Alstott pretty much.

I also like whoever is playing the Cowboys.

This is a trick question. You can't have two favorite NFL teams. A true fan has just one.
Why not? I've been a fan of both for the same length of time (since the late 70's).
Where do you draw the line? Can you be fans of 3 teams? 5?If you're a fan of two or more teams, you're a fan of none. This is not an opinion, but a fact. Don't insult the real fans by celebrating on the streets when they finally win a Superbowl like I did when the Buccaneers won it all.

How does this work? If you're a fan of the Redskins and Ravens, for example, do you wear Redskins gear if they win one week and Ravens gear if they win the next?

But seriously, if you have two favorite teams, you're just a fan of football, not a particular team. That's cool, I guess.

PS

The other 31 teams can kiss my ###. Go Bucs.
That's somewhat true. I'm more a fan of the game, but love them Lions. I'll celebrate when they eventually win a Super Bowl, provided I'm still on God's green earth, and not 6 feet under and hell hasn't frozen over. When the Titans win a Super Bowl, I'll simply drink a beer and smile.

KC Chiefs because I grew up in Wichita, Kansas and went to KU in Lawrence, KS.

Buffalo Bills because a friend of mine that I used to play church softball with went on to play special teams for the Bills during their Superbowl years. We played #88 Steve Tasker in left center and he was wicked fast with tremendous bat speed and would crank a couple of HR's out per game. Good times, Nice guy.

No that's an opinion. And a ridiculous one.

1. New England Patriots- always have, always will.

2. Since I have to, probably the Green Bay Packers as I like how they are "owned" by Green Bay. But I really don't follow any other team or root for any other team.

#1 GIANTS-grew up watching them every week, suffered through some horrible years to finally see them get back the glory of the "early" years. The Marra's were and are "class" personified.

#2-GIANTS-see #1

Bears. Born and raised in Bear country.

Saints. I moved to New Orleans 12 years ago and while I was driving south with all my stuff they announced that Ditka had been hired to coach the Saints. I figured I could root for em with Da Coach at the helm.

#1 Eagles-grew up and live in Philly, it is just part of you

#2 Chargers-like a lot of people here, started watching football in the late 70's and loved Fouts and the Air Coryell crew, followed them ever since, even through the lean years of which there were many.

I remember having a Chragers jacket and school bag in early elementary school

I think having one team in the NFC and in in AFC makes it easier to root for two teams, however the Eagles will always trump thre Bolts for me

Is your alias C-H-A-R-G-E-R-S?

#1. Chargers - My dad was a Rams fan, and I remember watching a game when I was young ('75) and just getting interested in football between the Rams and Chargers. It was a good game with balls flying all over the field. I asked my dad what he though about the Chargers and he said he thought they were going to be a pretty good team for the next few years. That was good enough for me, and even though they lost that game in OT and only won 2 games that season, I stuck with them as my dad's words came true: 6-8, 7-7, 9-7, 12-4, 11-5, 10-6, 6-3.

#2. This has sort of been my bandwagon pick, rotating between the Rams, Colts, Bengals, Buccaneers, Redskins, Jets, and Patriots (mostly based on players I liked, moreso than record). However, if I was to name my top 50 all-time favorite players, a good deal of them would be from the Patriots teams of the '80s: Stanley Morgan, Mosi Tatupu, Irving Fryar, Andre Tippet, and John Hannah.

1) Pittsburgh ... i grew up on the Steel Curtain, the Terrible Towel, and Mean Joe Greene Coke commercial

2) Tennessee ... I live in TN and their arrival allowed me room to root for two teams

To be fair, you allowed yourself to direct your attention to two teams. Did you wear a Titans t-shirt at any point during the Steelers championship season? I'm sure you felt cheap for celebrating their victory over the Seahawks since just weeks before you were wearing blue and white and not black and gold.

While the specific teams listed are wrong :lmao: , this is the correct way to answer this question. It's your favorite team, and whoever is playing your most despised team.
Actually, he answered correctly. rules and the Clowns stink. :lmao:

I am and always will be a Giants fan through and through. Grew up in CT where all of their games are televised, and I started getting into sports in the mid 80's, right in the Simms and LT years. Some great memories.

My "correct" #2 team would be whomever is playing the Cowboys...

But since I've been playing FF, I follow the league much more closely and I like to watch teams improve from terrible to playoff contenders. So lately I've been picking an AFC team to root for each year. In '04 it was the Chargers, in '05 the Bengals, '06 Ravens, and this year I like the Jets. They have been pretty forgettable lately but I like the direction they are headed. They have made some very wise draft picks the past couple of years, hired a good young coach, and the Thomas Jones signing should be huge for them. If Pennington stays healthy, you have to love that offense, and the defense has made strides too. As someone who loathes the Pats, I will be watching both of their games with much interest. I think the Pats are probably the best team in the NFL, so the Jets upsetting them (bonus if it's in Foxboro), would be pretty sweet indeed. I would be shocked if the Jets did not earn at least a wild card berth and would not rule out an upset win in the first round. Again that is assuming Pennington plays 16 games, never a sure thing.

Some other teams I am rooting for this year: the 49ers (seem to improve a little every year, should win the west), Saints (for real or was '06 a fluke? The defense will be a big factor) and the Lions (I WANT Kitna to be the sleeper QB people say he is, and CJ to win rookie of the year, and he and Roy catch 30 combined TD passes, but I would be content if they could simply be competitive on Thanksgiving so it's not another suckfest).

Anyone else find yourself rooting for more teams since you started playing fantasy football?

Who are currently your 2 favorite NFL pro football teams and please say why (for preferably player / team quality, team history, tactical reasons, etc., rather than for any sentimental reasons) for each fave team named ?
#1 is the Lions sadly....born and raised in Michigan...can't help it. But I love them so despite all the pain they've caused me. #2 is the Chargers - dates back to the 70s w/ Dan Fouts, Jefferson, Winslow, etc etc. Loved watching them play as a kid. They're late resurgence has been fun to watch, and LT2 is now second only to Barry as my favorite all-time players.

oh please. such sanctimonious BS. :lmao: I love the lions first and foremost, but I also cheer for the Chargers. if they were playing i would be 100% behind Detroit....but just because I like SD doesn't make me any less of a Lions fan.

1. Steelers - western pa lifer

2. Bears/Packers: depending on the season. Leaning towards the Packers right now.

Cold weather teams with great traditions. I loath the Vikes and the Lions because of the domes they play in.

1. Redskins

2. Panthers

I grew up in NC, and the Redskins were always on TV. Plus, I LOVED John Riggins. So they have always been my favorite team since I was about 10 years old. And during my teenage years, it was awesome watching them win 3 SBs.

Then when the Panthers were born, I started cheering for them, just because I felt I "should" living in NC. But now I really love that team as well, due to Steve Smith (one of my favorite players in the league) John Fox, and a great D. Crossing my fingers that DeAngelo is the final piece for them.

Cowboys #1

Cowboys #2, #3, #4, and #5

Stepfather was a huge Redskins fan and I hated the *******..lol. He actually introduced me to football at age 6 and thats when I was introduced to Tony Dorsett (The Barry Sanders before Barry Sanders).

#1 - Miami Dolphins

no real number two.

Although - in 10 years of FF - I have never drafted or picked up a Jets player. FF is my all consuming passion in the fall, but I will never be in a position to ever cheer for a Jets player.

Miami Dolphins #1... started watching them while growing up in Florida, been a fan since 2nd grade (1979)

Denver Broncos #2... moved to Colorado in high school, got tix to Broncos-Chiefs game at Mile High, my first live game.

Dan Marino & John Elway are my favorite players of all time.

It seems like the Air Coryell Chargers hooked alot of us 1970's kids on football :nerd:
:bag: The funnest part is having to explain to people why you are a Chargers fan, and having never been to San Diego. Changed this year when my sister flew me out to the Chargers Pats playoff game....It is nice to see them coming back with Air Coryell light.....wouldn't mind seeing Rivers doing his Fouts impersonation this year, but winning the big one.

I was born in SD and loved the 70/80 fouts era bolts and have been to SD a couple times. But most of my life i lived in the D but have always been a Bolt fan, plus the Lions have sucked so bad, besides Billy & Barry not much to like about the Lions.

I am a Jets fan, and the reason is fairly elaborate. As a kid I grew up in the Hampton Roads area watching the Tidewater (now Norfolk) Tides play, which was the AAA farm team for the NY Mets - as a result I've been a Mets fan from a very young age. In 1986, both the Mets and Jets were having good years, and I had seen a sports special in which they mentioned that the last time the Mets had won the World Series was the same year the Jets had won the Super Bowl (1969) ... so I became an instant NY Jets fan and have loved them ever since

Team #2 would be the Carolina Panthers primarily due to proximity

Ni

Patriots, first and foremost.

But I also like the Cowboys. When I was a kid growing up, if the Pats weren't on, the 'Boys were.

But I bleed blue, red and silver and that'll never change.

The Lions and the Titans. The Lions because I was born and raised in Detroit, and the Titans because I moved to TN around the same time the Oilers did, then Barry retired so I was kind of lost.

:goodposting:

Steelers fan since the Blonde Bomber to Swann and Stallworth days. From Missouri and have lived in Cowboy country and the Deep South of Georgia.

I can pick some other teams that are enjoyable to watch but nothing compares to STEELER football so I will not even try, though I do peek in on several games on any given Sunday.

If you want to watch teams toss it up and down the field which can be exciting then we have the Lambs, I mean Rams in state and I can remember the "Air" Coryell days of San Diego that others are reminiscing about. I remember the AFC Championship game between Fouts Chargers and Anderson of the Bengals and it was like 70 below 0 with the wind chill and Fouts was still chucking that ball to Joiner, Jefferson and Winslow with Muncie toting the rock; not sure if today's Chargers are of the same ilk but I wouldn't put anything past Rivers, Gates, LT2, and a stout defense (they have a tough road to hoe this year though).
