I would like both back split carries tonight. Does anyone see this as a possibility?
I doubt they split, but once Chicago gets a comfortable lead, i can see Benson getting a few series.I would like both back split carries tonight. Does anyone see this as a possibility?
If the refs allow the Cardinals to stay in the game, who knows...
I was joking of course...but the only way the Cardinals win this one is with some help from the men in black...If the refs allow the Cardinals to stay in the game, who knows...![]()
I don't think anyone's disputing TJones is the starter.I think they're saying Benson may end up with nearly as many carries because it could be such a blowout. If it's 31-3 at half-time, expect a heavy dose of Benson in the 2nd half. What would lead any of you to believe they will split carries??Stop it. Thomas Jones is the starting running back in Chicago. Benson comes in to spell him when he is tired, or take over in a blowout. End of story. All you Benson owners need to come to grips with this. It will make us all happier beings
Well, the original poster said 'I would liek both backs to split carries tonight'. I take that as meaning split the entire game.If he meant, 'I hope the Bears are up by 30 at halftime so Benson can get in and maybe get as many carries as Jones beacuse I really need him to get me 15 points so my team wont be 1-5'', then I apologizeI don't think anyone's disputing TJones is the starter.I think they're saying Benson may end up with nearly as many carries because it could be such a blowout. TJ owner here, and this is what I'm expecting. That suits me just fine--as long as they dont' take extended breaks during FF playoffs this year.I don't think anyone's disputing TJones is the starter.I think they're saying Benson may end up with nearly as many carries because it could be such a blowout. I'd be a little surprised if this happened unless an injury happens. This is the night Benson takes over the load. 80 yards and two touchdowns to TJ's 55 and 0.
It is not going to happen.Cedric Benson is the backup RB. He is not the starter, nor is he threatening to become the starter. Why does anyone still think otherwise????I'd be a little surprised if this happened unless an injury happens. This is the night Benson takes over the load. 80 yards and two touchdowns to TJ's 55 and 0.
Are you suggesting the Bears drafted Benson #4 overall so that he could be a backup RB?It is not going to happen.Cedric Benson is the backup RB. Are you suggesting the first place Bears supplant the starting RB for a guy who is averaging 3.1 yards per carry?Or maybe you think Benson is gonna be the starter because he has less than half the carries as Thomas Jones? Or maybe because of the 2 catches he has? They drafted him high, no doubt. But he is not going to play unless a few things happen.T Jones gets hurt orBenson actually performs when he playsAre you suggesting the Bears drafted Benson #4 overall so that he could be a backup RB?It is not going to happen.Cedric Benson is the backup RB. No way that will happen. The threads will be out in full force during the bye because people will speculate that Lovie is using the bye week to get the team acclimated to Benson as the starter. These threads are becoming as comical as the weekly Denver RB threads. It's amazing to me that these always end up playing out exactly the same, every week. At least with the BYE in week 7 maybe we'll skip the Jones/Benson thread for once. .
I agree. Ask the Michael Turner bandwagon that was expecting him to play the entire second half b/c the Chargers would be crushing the 49ers...backup RBs are backups for a reason. Let it go.It is not going to happen.Cedric Benson is the backup RB. They didn't draft him to be a backup, but that's what he is so far. He hasn't earned the starting job, and Jones hasn't earned a demotion. That's not permanent, and I believe Benson will one day be the starter, but there is no evidnece to suggest that that is imminent. Are you suggesting the Bears drafted Benson #4 overall so that he could be a backup RB?It is not going to happen.Cedric Benson is the backup RB. The idea of Benson supplanting Jones as the starter is garbage. The idea of Benson having a better fantasy night is in play.
Are you suggesting that you use crack?Lets say you're Lovie Smith (having a job part will be a stretch, but play along). You have a solid starting RB. You have a young RB trying to prove himself. You're 5-0. Your D is insanely good. If Benson shows flashes, great there will be no let down when TJ takes a blow. Otherwise, there's no reason to make any drastic changes. The team is firmly behind TJ, not Benson. Why split the locker room? (by split, I mean 95/5). Backup RBs rarely take over for the starters. The starter has to be either doing poorly, or the team is doing poorly. Otherwise, why mess with it? Status quo is working nicely, Lovie will continue with this system as long as they're winning. If TJ suddenly starts sucking, or they start losing, there's simply no reason to change anything. In the offseason, who knows. Bensons draft spot/pay does hurt the Bears. It's hard to be paying Benson all that money, with little in return. I'm not sure it's Benson that will decide it, I think Peterson might be good enough for the Bears to let TJ go. But it's 2006, the Bears want to win a championship, and there's no way on earth Lovie pisses off all the vets. Even when LJ was the backup, putting up insane numbers, Dicky still stuck with Holmes as the starter. And Benson is no where near the level of production LJ was at. LJ got so good, Dicky couldn't keep him on the bench. Benson might not even be the 2nd best RB on his team. That's a far cry from a LJ type situation where the backup starts to challenge for the job. (McGahee/Henry is what you want to look at, Henry was sucking, and the Bills were also, by midseason the Bills had nothing to lose). BTW, I'm in the “Benson will be forced to start camp”. But that was preseason. I'll feel the same way next year. But during the season, it's a totally different animal. Are you suggesting the Bears drafted Benson #4 overall so that he could be a backup RB?It is not going to happen.Cedric Benson is the backup RB. Sorry, we're pounding away on that dead horse, aren't we?

did i miss a "joke"this sounds eerily familiar to a LT-Turner post "prior" to the san fran game. we saw how that played out.
Are you suggesting the Bears drafted Benson #4 overall so that he could be a backup RB?
I agree with this, at least for the time being. There is no indication - not even a slight indication - that the team intends to use Benson for anything other than protecting big leads and opccasional change of pace.
Benson is a better power back. Period. He doesn't have the hands Jones has, and doesn't have the blocking skills, but he's learning the blocking skills and from what I can see they are incorporating the TE much more which indicates to me they are transitioning to a power running game and let the TE catch the underneath stuff.Plus, so far in his career, Benson brings NOTHING to the table talent-wise that TJones doesn't already do better.
I agree that Benson is not going to supplant Jones on a 5-0 team unless 1 of two things happens - Jones gets injured or Jones starts putting the ball on the carpet. The first is much more likely than the second. Jones has had health concerns in the past. I haven't known him to be a chronic fumbler. I will say this though. The Bears have a sports car in the garage in the form of Benson. Their current ride (Jones) is getting it done and the team is doing well. But sooner or later they are going to want to get the new ride some extended action. Benson is a guy that needs a lot of carries to get on a roll. The current ride does things that Benson does not (catches a lot of balls), but the Bears are preparing for life without that in a RB and bringing the TE into play much more this year. That will make the transition from TJones to Benson much easier. Sooner or later the switch will happen. In fact I expect it to happen this year. I don't see the Bears waiting until next year to go with Benson. But that's just me. BTW, I'm a Benson and Jones owner. I have both locked up for next year as well, so I really don't care which guy starts as long as they don't split carries......The idea of Benson supplanting Jones as the starter is garbage. The idea of Benson having a better fantasy night is in play.
I did not suggest that Benson would (or should) become the #1 RB for the Bears today, tomorrow or in a month. The poster asked "why does anyone think" that Benson would "threaten" to beanything other than the backup RB.The reason he will "threaten" to become something other than "the backup RB" is because the Bears invested a very high draft pick in him. When that happens none of us know, but it will likely happen at some point in time. And regardless of whether it happens or not, I've answered the question of "why does anyone think otherwise". I'm surprised this needed to be spelled out to so many of you.It is not going to happen.Cedric Benson is the backup RB. He is not the starter, nor is he threatening to become the starter. Why does anyone still think otherwise????
You didnt miss a joke. I was just making reference to all the Turner topics andposts about how he was going to be such a good play against the Niners. Then LT comes out and gets in the endzone 4x while Turner gets 1 carry for 0 yards. Just a TJones owner hoping he can come out and get in the endzone 4x.did i miss a "joke"this sounds eerily familiar to a LT-Turner post "prior" to the san fran game. we saw how that played out.![]()
