First a history discussion-- What NFL team had the best secondary ever? I can think of a number of good CB pairs or a great CB/FS combo, but am wondering if anyone can come up with a team that had 2 amazing cornerbacks, and 2 amazing safeties. Anyone?
Already Green Bay's secondary is stellar, with pro-bowlers Tramon Williams, Nick Collins and last year's DPY Charles Woodson. But I read this today on Rotoworld:
"Nnamdi Asomugha - DB - Raiders
NFL.com's Michael Lombardi lists the Dolphins, Patriots and Packers as potential destinations for free agent CB Nnamdi Asomugha this offseason.
Lombardi believes Asomugha "must go to a team that plays press-man-to-man coverage, which highlights his skill set." That would make the Jets a possibility, but with so many free agents of their own to take care of, they are unlikely to be in the market for one of the game's top overall players."
There are rumors that Green Bay may move Woodson to safety, a position he played sporadically last season due to injuries and his waning speed. That opens the door for Asomugha as CB2 with Shields (starting caliber already) as CB3.
It's a long shot that this will happen, admittedly, but if it did happen, where would Green Bay's secondary rank on the all-time stud list?
